It s time for the 27 th Annual Inshore Tournament. I have been a member since 2008 and have always been amazed how relatively few Club Members fish our public tournaments. I challenge everyone who is able, to sign up and make this a big success. Remember it s $55, the first 75 anglers get a free shirt ($20 value), the proceeds go to a good cause (Gratitude America) and make it possible for us to keep having all the events Born in Florida and raised in New England, he fell in love with fly fishing at a very early age. He managed the Mystic Angler Fly Fishing shop for 6 while operating his own guide service for many called Sugar Reef Outfitters fishing from Montauck to Marthas Vineyard. Captain Emmett participated in Saltwater Sportsman National Seminar series and presented at colleges along the east coast. by: President Chris Davy and prizes we have. Tournaments like these are as much to just having fun and enjoy the event as they are to win. Remember, it only takes one shrimp and one cast to win a prize. If there is no Flagler Slam you could win $350 in the drawing just for entering. Its better odds than the Lottery! If you can t fish remember we always need volunteers! Let John Falter know if you can help. See Ya on the water. An Orvis School of Fly Fishing certified instructor and member in good standing of the Federation of Fly Fishers, he currently operates "CastAway Fly- Fishing"..a fly fishing instruction program here in Northeast Florida. Captain Emmett has contributed to publications such as Salt Water Sportsman, Fly Fishing in Saltwaters, Fly Fisherman and the Fisherman Magazine. Captain Emmett has flyfished for species from Trout to Blue Fin Tuna.

As the heat index finally drops away from 100 degrees, the month of September provides two noticeable events which will influence inshore and surf fishing-the fall mullet run and flood tides. As the mullet run begins, anglers will find bluefish and spanish mackerel in the inlets and following the large schools in the surf. Target these toothy fish with a well constructed artificial, such as a Gotcha plug or a suspending Mirrolure. A live mullet on a fish finder rig, fished from the pier or in a beach run out, will be the key to landing nice sized flounder and redfish. Pompano can still be found in the surf, as well, using sand fleas or a small piece of Fishbites artificial bait. The fall mullet run will get many species of fish stirring in the river also. Jack crevalle, ladyfish, bluefish, tarpon, and trout will all be found chasing the mullet schools traveling the ICW. Target these fish with a suspending hard bait, soft plastic jerkbaits, or a gold spoon. But for me, the start of fall means flood tide fishing! Consult your tide charts to find the days with the highest high tides. On these days, plan to search your favorite grass bank for tailing redfish. During the flood tides redfish and sheepshead will move up into the grass and feed on the snails that are on the grass blades. Bring your wading shoes as anchoring the boat and walking out may be the best approach (remember to do the stingray shuffle ). Target these fish with a live shrimp, your favorite fly pattern, or a small artificial crab. Offshore anglers should enjoy a more active bottom bite this month. Grouper will move onto the shallower wrecks and reefs (70 to 90 feet). Triggerfish, black sea bass, and even the occasional lionfish should be available also. Remember when anchored up to free line a live sardine to entice cobia and amberjack that will be lurking around these same areas. Sailfish can be targeted by trolling skirt and ballyhoo combos throughout September as well. FACE BOOK ADMIN Chris Hall christopher.acn@gmail.com EDITOR John R. 5 By: Bill May In lieu of featuring one of our Annual Sponsors in an article this month, I want to briefly explain what is happening with our Annual Sponsor Program. I will resume with an article featuring an Annual Sponsor with the October Edition of our newsletter and continue throughout the remainder of the year being sure to include all of them. As many of you know, I was tasked several ago by the FSFC Board to contact many local and far businesses related (or not related) to our sport. The purpose was to convince them to become Annual Sponsors for our club by making cash or other significant donations to the FSFC to augment our club activities during the year allowing for higher cash payouts at our tournaments and/or donating raffle items for our meetings and tournaments and silent auctions. In return, depending on their level of support which was clearly established by the board, they were to appear on our flyers for tournaments, our website, in our newsletter, on tournament shirts at predetermined locations on the shirts, and in general, supported by our members at every opportunity. If you are going to buy a boat, look at our Annual Sponsors first. If you need bait, check with our Annual Sponsors first. Pretty simple. They were also invited to participate in our activities in a variety of ways and depending on their level of support, were offered up to 2 free annual memberships. Please note that these Annual Sponsors are different from our Tournament Sponsors who donate to support one (or two) of our two big annual pay tournaments. The Annual Sponsors pledge to support us through-out the year. The individual Tournament sponsors are only in for the particular tournament that they donate to. My goal is to encourage many of the Tournament Sponsors to become Annual Sponsors but that hasn t seemed to work yet. But it will. I am in the process of looking for Annual Sponsors for Questions that I am asked are What will your club do for me if I sponsor you? Did last year s sponsors sign up again for this New Year or do they intend to? Do your club members actively support your Annual Sponsors? The list goes on and on. Yes we have lost a sponsor or two over the past several, particularly those that are out of the immediate area perhaps because it was too inconvenient for our members to drive that far. That business owner told me that I was the only club member that he ever saw and could not see any reason to support us after the first year. He had made two excellent donations for our raffles and silent auctions. For the most part however, we do support our sponsors very well in my opinion. So my point is this. I am asking for all members to become familiar with our Annual Sponsors. Visit them. Tell them you are with our club. Buy something there even if it is a package of fishhooks. Become visible. As I said, I am looking for Annual Sponsors for 2016 now and if any of you know of a business that would be interested, please let me know. I will contact them. My goal is to have as many in place before the end of December this year. I will not be able to do this next year due to complications with family. That means that I am also looking for a replacement to take over this responsibility. This is a great club and it needs your support to continue to exist at the current levels. SUPPORT OUR ANNUAL SPONSORS LIKE THEY SUPPORT US. Mangrove Snapper, Shark, Stingray and even a Barracuda. By; Hank Alper To start with, the Club s Annual Kids' Fishing Trip was favored by the right kind of weather for this activity. Cloudy skies without precipitation. After preliminary check-in and boat assignment, 10 boats carrying 13 kids ranging in age from 6 to 14, left the basin at Bings Landing to catch some fish. And catch them they did! Every kid caught and released some fish. The number of species caught during this event was impressive. The usual Pinfish, Catfish and small Mangrove Snappers kept our young fishermen busy battling their spiny catches. But our canny Boat Captains were also able to put them onto some more exciting catches such as Snook, Sea Bass, Sheepshead, Puffer, Seatrout, Redfish, Black Drum, Flounder, keeper Boat Captains reported as many as 15 to 20 fish landed by their passengers during the 3 hour trip. The boats fished in different areas. Some went to the Palm Coast canals, others up to Matanzas Inlet, or to local creeks or flats. All found fish. After getting back to the dock, everyone gathered at the small pavilion at Bings Landing to brag about their catches and for hot dogs and hamburgers prepared by Dean Roberts and John Falter. Many thanks to the ten Boat Captains who volunteered for this event. This year we had a great turnout. Thanks as well to the kids' parents who make sure their child can take advantage of this fishing opportunity by getting them to Bings Landing and by fishing with their kid.
