3 Hi All, What an extraordinary group of people turned up today (Saturday ) despite the forecasted temperature, which reached low to mid forties by mid morning, to take on the tasks that I had hoped would get done today & all were completed without one word of complaint, made me feel proud to be associated with them all. The machinery shed roof was extended, with enthusiasm & good humour, you can imagine how hot is was up on the roof for the guys fixing on the sheets, didn't stop them at all. All the mowing, whipper snipping, gutter cleaning, track clearing of fallen branches & walking areas, the machines serviced & the water truck pump refitted after being repaired, the amenities got a bit of a swish over, all completed, it was " simply amazing " & we still got out of the grounds by approximately 1.30pm. I would like to thank on behalf of the Club the efforts of Tony "gadget " Evans for his generous use of equipment & leadership in erecting the roof, John McInnes for his donation of materials, also Bruce Durham for his donation of roofing purloins.

4 In no particular order the following people, all deserve thanks for their efforts however large or small, it all makes for our Clubs success; Cyril Croker, Evan van Leeuwen, Warren & Zac Roach, Dave Anderson, Steve O'Brien, Kent Williamson, Dave Wright, Brent Blakewell, Adrian Turnbull, Mark Turnbull, Kristy, Kira Tegan & all the kids ( Turnbull Associates ). Geordie Farish, Hayden Allen, Paul Allan, Denis & Kerri Whitall, Chris & Peter Granger, Nathan Grant, Bruce Antaw, & thankyou to Sue & Graeme Humbles for organising the lunch & Ice blocks. As I said it was overwhelming the amount of people who came out in atrocious conditions to help out, we are looking good for the 2013 season with that amount of people turning up! 8 Just to give people an idea of how wet some of the track is. Note how far the shovel is buried in slop, even after nearly a week of no rain!

9 Although there has been so much rain in Newcastle lately, apparently the politicians in Canberra can actually organize some reasonable weather for the National Capital Rally which was held on the 2 nd & 3 rd of March. Westlake's members, Chris Giddins & Damien Grahame were competing (who had been there since Wednesday night) & yours truly, servicing for the pair. Leaving home in pouring rain on Friday morning with the service trailer in tow, I was a bit apprehensive that the journey would be for nothing with local flooding. B double semi trailers from the start of the F3, virtually racing each other to get to deliver their goods from being held up with blocked roads, detours etc, all the way to nearly the ACT. I hadn't seen so many trucks at the one time going in the one direction, which didn't make for an easy trip, water spray from these guys made it very difficult to see & the rain had not let up until about 40 kilometers out of Goulburn, which by the way was about 8 to 10 degrees, when I stopped to have a bite to eat (I hadn't packed a jacket / jumper!) well, I left home in 20 odd degrees, didn't expect it to be so cold). Finally arrived & caught up with the guys, who were in town doing the Ceremonial Start. Saturday, Chris is due at the start at 9.26am, we have checked & blessed the Evo 6, its in the hands of the Rally God's now. They come back for first service, with smiles & best of all, no problems, spanner check, fuel, tyres & back out to repeat the same stages & when they returned, had done an amazing job, ended up 4 th outright overall (including ARC ), & had a two and half minute lead in the State class as well as the 4wd class. 10 I just got back, when the phone rings, the rear diff has come adrift & stripped the housing as well, so he will nurse it back to service, where we changed the housing & found some makeshift bolts & washers, & got it competitive in 30 minutes, refuel, tyres & out to make up for lost time ( late time). So off I go, back out to remote service to hopefully meet up. All good, Chris has had a real dig & pulled back a good amount of time, With the service, he wanted new tyres on the front, as he was really gonna pull out all stops to get the best result possible. After the usual check over, the guys head out for the day, there is a remote fueling at Queanbeyan, before starting the days first stages, its a fair distance from Bruce Stadium to Fairburn park for the service crew, especially when you have to go back to service park (Bruce Stadium ) & then go back again later in the day. 11 The Rally Gods must have got out of the car at service though, because just 600 meters into the next stage a F*#%$*n flat tyre ( a very large hole in the road tore the tyre off the rim) which had to be changed as they still had 13 kilometers to go, the phone rings again the car just stopped in stage with an electrical fault ( game over). It was so frustrating not only for Chris & Damien, but everyone involved with the team. Chris would like to thank his Dad for building the motor & gearbox & other bits & pieces ( not bad for a 73 year old ). 13 We, the Club have a crisis looming for the future running of our events, why you ask?, we are desperately running short on Stewards, Event officials, Timekeepers, & General helpers for all of our events. We need people to be trained up for Administration (entries, license checkers, etc) Timekeeping, Event officials & Eventually, Stewards (most important one ) because without these roles being filled, as people retire from the sport or (God forbid, get sick or other ) we will not be able to conduct events if we cannot fill these positions, simple fact is no officials = no events. Now, its no good saying oh someone will do it! For the past year there has been no more than 5 official people at each event, working very hard to put the events together & it takes it s toll not only on them, but their families as well, all for the enjoyment of competitors. With the growing numbers of entries to our events, it involves a lot of extra responsibilities. Please don t just put this aside, if you think you or someone you know would like to train to be an official of any of the above categories, just see the director / official at any event & we will get you started, you don t need to be experienced, there are no costs involved & you never know you might actually enjoy being a very important part of the future of Westlake's Auto Club. This could be a very serious situation if ignored, we have to fill all positions on the day of every event, if not, you know what, you go home Col Pogson President Westlake's Auto Club

I am guessing most of us are hanging to be back out there at Awabawac Park in the dirt, wether it be dust or mud and no matter what your chosen events are.
