The teams have split the first two games of the series with Inland Empire earning a 6-4 win in the opener on Thursday before the Giants bounced back with an 11-0 shutout last night. This series will close out the first half for San Jose. Sixth Shutout Last night s victory marked San Jose s sixth shutout of the season. The six shutouts are tied for second in the California League (Visalia leads with nine). The 11-run margin yesterday tied for the Giants largest victory of the season (also won 11-0 vs. Rancho Cucamonga on May 23). Five of San Jose s six shutouts have come at home, including three versus Inland Empire. More On Last Night s Win Seth Harrison s six RBI s last night were the most RBI s by a San Jose Giant in a game this season (previous high: four RBI s). Martin Agosta didn t allow a LAST GAME June R H E Inland Emp San Jose x WP: Agosta (2-5) LP: Cooney (1-6) S: None Martin Agosta fired seven scoreless innings and Seth Harrison collected six RBI s to lead the Giants to an 11-0 victory over the 66ers last night. The win for San Jose evened the series at a game apiece. Agosta, who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, allowed just one single with one walk and a season-high nine strikeouts during his start. Harrison (3-for-4, 2 2B, 6 RBI) smacked a two-run double, a three-run double and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive home six of the Giants 11 runs. Hunter Cole (1-for- 3, HR, 2 RBI) added a key two-run home run while Austin Slater (2- for-4, SB) and Ben Turner (2-for-5) finished with two hits apiece. San Jose out-hit Inland Empire hit yesterday until there were two outs in the top of the sixth. The 5 2/3 innings were the longest a San Jose starting pitcher has gone this season without allowing a hit in a game. The two hits surrendered by the Giants yesterday was their lowest total in a game this year. San Jose has also now scored 10 or more runs in four out of their last ten games (after accomplishing the feat just four times in their first 58 games). Six Giants Named To All-Star Team Six San Jose Giants were named to the California League All-Star team last week. Pitchers Tyler Beede, Chase Johnson, Keury Mella and Dan Slania, second baseman Austin Slater and outfielder Hunter Cole will represent the Giants in the June 23 California-Carolina League All-Star Game in Rancho Cucamonga (Beede will not participate due to his promotion to Double-A Richmond). The six selections are the most of any team in the California League. Mella (3rd, 2.95) and Johnson (7th, 3.23) both rank among the top seven in the league in ERA while Slania is tied for first with 12 saves. Cole (.324, 6 HR, 35 RBI) is fourth in the league in batting average. Slater (.297, 3 HR, 34 RBI) leads the Giants in hits (73) and doubles (14 - tied). Beede was 2-2 with a 2.24 ERA in nine starts before his promotion. At Muni The Giants are 13-6 in their last 19 games at Municipal Stadium (after starting the season 4-10 at home). San Jose s team ERA at home is 2.92 compared to 4.85 on the road. Thursday began a stretch for the Giants playing 22 out of 29 games at home (through July 21). Versus The Sixers San Jose is 6-3 against Inland Empire this season, including a 4-1 mark at Municipal Stadium. The Giants have outscored the Sixers by a 28-1 margin in their four home wins over Inland Empire. Tommy Hanson To Make Second Start Tonight Tommy Hanson is slated to make his second start with San Jose in tonight s game versus Inland Empire. Last Monday at Modesto, Hanson tossed five scoreless innings and allowed just two singles with one walk and eight strikeouts. Hanson retired the last 12 batters he faced and was credited with the win. Hanson has spent five years in the major leagues with the Braves ( ) and Angels (2013). He owns a career big league record of with a 3.80 ERA in 121 starts. Hanson finished third in the 2009 National League Rookie of the Year voting. He spent last season in the White Sox organization and was 3-5 with a 6.16 ERA in 10 starts for Triple-A Charlotte. Hanson signed a minor league contract with San Francisco on May 13 with last Monday marking his season debut. Avoiding 40 Losses The Giants (29-39) need victories tonight and tomorrow to avoid their first 40-loss half since San Jose went in the first half of 2003 before a record in the second half. This season marks the Giants second straight year with a sub-.500 first half (34-36 in 2014). San Jose had 10 straight winning first halves from Today s Opponent: Inland Empire 66ers The Inland Empire 66ers, an affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, are in fourth place in the South Division with a record. Inland Empire is seventh in the league in batting average (.256), last in home runs (33) and seventh in ERA (4.32). The 66ers are on the road. Victor Alcantara (3-4, 5.07) is expected to get the start tonight. Alcantara owns a 1.50 ERA (2 ER/12.0 IP) in two starts against the Giants this season.
