The two teams will open with a doubleheader Friday at 12: 05 p.m. with single-games set for Saturday (12:05 p.m.) and Sunday (1:05 p.m.). The forecast of inclement weather caused the shift of the doubleheader to Friday, as the fi rst game will be a nine-inning game, followed by a seven-inning contest. Tickets for this weekend s games are available at the Hawks Field at Haymarket Park ticket offi ce beginning 90 minutes prior to fi rst pitch. All four games will be carried on selected Pinnacle Sports Network affi liates (check local Pinnacle affi liate for availability) and on the Internet at Huskers.com as a school-record 49 regular-season games will be carried on the radio network during the 2006 season. In addition, live video streaming for all four games is available on HuskersNside. The Huskers, who are ranked as high as third in this week s national polls, bring a nine-game winning streak into this weekend s action following a twogame sweep of Illinois State (10-7, 12-6). Against the Redbirds, Nebraska hit.365 as a team and hit six homers, including two by fi rst baseman Brandon Buckman in Tuesday s 10-7 victory. NU is 5-0 at Hawks Field this spring. The Husker Lineup Card South Dakota State comes to Lincoln with a 2-8 record, but has been playing better in recent weeks. The Jackrabbits, which are in their second year at the Division I level, started the 2006 season with six straight losses, including a pair of close games at nationally ranked Kansas State, before splitting their last four games. Nebraska leads the all-time series, 11-2, and won all four meetings during the 2005 season. Prior to last season, the two teams had met only once since a 3-0 Husker win in Nebraska baseball coach Mike Anderson announced Thursday that Joba Chamberlain will miss his scheduled turn in the rotation on Friday against South Dakota State. Chamberlain, who was cleared to return to the mound following Tuesday s bullpen session, will be held out as a precaution, as the weekend forecast shows a strong probability of inclement weather and cool temperatures. We are just trying to be smart about what we are doing, Anderson said on Thursday. After his workouts this week, we feel as though Joba is ready to pitch, and our team is ready to play (this weekend), but both conditions (his health and the weather) need to be conducive for Joba to get on the mound. We will wait until both conditions are right. Pos. # Player Bats Cl. Avg. Buckman picked up his second multi-homer game of the season, leading the Huskers from a 6-4 defi cit, as the Husker fi rst baseman went 3-for-4 and matched his career high with four RBIs. Ryan Wehrle also had two hits, including a game-tying homer in the sixth, and scored twice, while Andy Gerch went 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored three times in helping the Huskers pound out 12 hits and win their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Luke Wertz earned the win in relief, allowing one run on three hits over 2.2 innings of work. Wednesday (NU 12, Illinois State 6): Luke Gorsett and Jake Mort both drove in two runs in a fi ve-run fi fth as No. 3 Nebraska posted its ninth straight win with a 12-6 victory. The Huskers used homers from Gorsett, Andrew Brown and Nick Jaros in an 11-hit attack while NU scored eight unanswered runs to break the game open. Gorsett went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Mort, Jake Opitz and Ryan Wehrle all had two hits apiece in the win. The run support was more than enough for the Huskers pitchers, who struggled early but got better as the game progressed. Jon Klausing picked up his fi rst win since May of 2004, as he fanned two on 2.1 innings of relief for the win. Dorn Shares Big 12 Honor Johnny Dorn was honored Tuesday as he was chosen as the Big 12 s Co-Pitcher of the Week for March Dorn was tabbed for the honor following his complete-game victory against Alabama on March 11. The right-hander from Grand Island allowed one unearned run on four hits, while fanning a season-high eight Crimson Tide hitters. It was Dorn s fi rst complete game of the season and fi rst since last season s Big 12 Tournament. Over his last three starts, Dorn is 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA, holding opponents to a.176 average Dorn is the second Husker pitcher to take home the Big 12 s weekly award, joining fellow All-American Joba Chamberlain, who has been honored twice this season. Chamberlain Reaches Double Figures With a 2-1 record and a 1.29 ERA, Chamberlain has gotten off to a quick start. He has reached doublefi gures in strikeouts in two of his three appearances, including 10 strikeouts in a loss to No. 4 Rice on Feb. 25, and 11 strikeouts against Notre Dame on March 4. In his last two starts, Chamberlain has a 21-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He will not pitch this weekend because of tightness in his tricep. Since then,

Buckman had his second two-homer day on March 14 against Illinois State, matching his career high with four RBIs in a 10-7 Husker win. Buckman also has three game-winning RBIs in that stretch. Chamberlain Picks up 2nd Big 12 Award Joba Chamberlain picked up his second Big 12 honor in three weeks on March 8, as he was selected as the Big 12 s co-pitcher of the Week for the weekend ending March 5. Chamberlain also picked up some additional hardware, as he was picked for the NCBWA Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Notre Dame. Chamberlain was dominant against Notre Dame on March 3, holding the Fighting Irish to just three hits over seven shutout innings. He posted his second-straight double-fi gure strikeout effort with a season-high 11 Ks, including six of the fi rst 11 hitters he retired in order. He needed just 89 pitches to get through the seventh. This was his second honor of the year, as he was also selected on Feb. 22, after holding No. 19 North Carolina State to just two singles over 7.1 shutout frames. Chamberlain fanned seven and took a no-hitter into the fi fth against a team that entered the game hitting.460 as a team and averaging over 17 runs per game. Elementry Watson, Elementry It does not take a detective to fi gure out that Tony Watson has emerged into one of Nebraska s top starters. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound left-hander has performed exceptionally well in the early going, going 2-0 with a 2.13 ERA in a team-best 25.1 innings of work. Watson has pitched at least six innings in all four of his starts, holding opponents to one run or less three times. He is 14th in the league in ERA, has a 19-to-7 strikeout to walk ratio and is holding foes to a.215 average. Watson s numbers are more impressive given that NU has scored just fi ve runs in his last two starts. Against No. 25 Alabama on March 10, he moved into the No. 1 spot and held the Crimson Tide to just one run over six innings of work, a contest NU won 2-1 in 11 innings. He matched his career high with eight strikeouts against Texas State on Feb. 24 and against Arizona on March 4. Pen Pals Nebraska has relied on the work of junior college transfer Jared Cranston and closer Brett Jensen to anchor a young bullpen. Jensen, a preseason All-American, is 3-0 with three saves and a 1.80 ERA in eight appearances. The senior allowed three runs in his fi rst outing of the year, but has slammed the door since then, going 3-0 with three saves and has not allowed a run in his last seven appearances, spanning 14 straight innings. Against No. 25 Alabama, Jensen picked up a pair of wins, combining to throw 5.1 innings of two-hit ball. Jensen, who is on the initial NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List, has converted 19 of 21 save opportunities over the past two years, setting a school single-season record with 16 saves in Cranston has developed into NU s top option from the left side, going 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in a team-high nine appearances. He has also not allowed an earned run since the opening weekend and has fanned nine in his eight innings of work. Drawing a Crowd Fans turned out in record-breaking numbers for Nebraska s home-opening weekend against No. 25. The Huskers opening-day crowd of 6,291, not only was the largest home crowd in the Big 12 this season, but easily shattered NU s previous opening-day mark of 3,412 set in 2002 against Nebaska-Kearney in the fi rst collegiate game at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. 6 Cool Hand Luke Junior college transfer Luke Gorsett has quickly made a name for himself as one of the Big 12 s top newcomers this spring. Gorsett has started all 15 games, hitting.383 with team highs in both homers (eight) and RBIs (17), as he ranks in the top-10 in the Big 12 stats in homers (fi rst), slugging percentage (.867, 1st) and total bases (52, sixth). He began his Husker career with a 12-game hitting streak, including a binge of seven homers in a ninegame stretch. Two weeks ago at the Dairy Queen Classic, Gorsett hit.500 with two homers and four RBIs, including a cycle against Notre Dame on March 3. Stern is currently in camp with the Boston Red Sox, where he spent all of the 2005 season in the Major League. Husker Pitching Stems Tide Despite not having All-American Joba Chamberlain, Nebraska posted an impressive pitching performance in a sweep of No. 25 Alabama. NU held the Crimson Tide to four runs (two earned) and forced Alabama into hitting just 1-of-26 with runners in scoring position. Combined with the three games of the Dairy Queen Classic, where NU allowed one run in each game, the Husker pitching staff allowed just one run in fi ve consecutive games, the fi rst time that has happened at Nebraska since the 1980 season. It s Like DQ Deja Vu All Over Again The Husker pitching staff must enjoy pitching at the Metrodome in the Dairy Queen Classic.
