1 BASIC DESCRIPTION ISKA SPORT MMA is a mixed martial arts sparring cmpetitin. It may best be viewed as a light cntact, theretical versin f MMA, the cmbat sprt that has taken the wrld by strm. Sprt MMA prvides cmpetitrs with an pprtunity t use many f the same techniques assciated with MMA, including; strikes, thrws, shts, grappling and submissins applied safely with light r semi-cntact. This will be strictly enfrced (n damaging strikes r slams). The frmat fr ur Sprt MMA cmpetitin is additinally designed t allw each and every cmpetitr the pprtunity t gain as much experience as pssible. In rder t achieve this, we have instituted a best f three, tap ut rule (explained belw). Each match begins with tw cmpetitrs starting frm the stand-up psitin. Light cntact strikes cmbined with gd ft-wrk may be used t cntrl the actin, scre, r clse the gap fr a sht r takedwn. If the match ges t the grund, grappling, submissins and light cntact striking t legal targets cme int play. The gal is t either utscre yur ppnent with legal, light cntact strikes and/r t btain submissins ver yur ppnent. EXPLAINING THE BEST OF THREE, SUBMISSION RULE If FIGHTER A btains a submissin ver FIGHTER B, it is recrded n the scre sheet and the match gets restarted frm the stand-up psitin. FIGHTER B must nw btain a submissin ver FIGHTER A in rder t have a chance at winning the match. Regardless f hw effective FIGHTER B is fr the rest f the match, if he des nt scre a submissin ver FIGHTER A, then he will lse even if he is the superir technical cmpetitr, gains mre pints fr striking r utclasses FIGHTER A fr the duratin f the but. If FIGHTER B can scre a submissin ver FIGHTER A (draw even in submissins), the match will again be restarted frm the stand-up psitin. If time elapses and neither fighter has an advantage in the number f submissins, then the match will be evaluated based n the relative merit f the clean, cntrlled striking, effective grappling technique and ring cntrl. Tw submissins ver any fighter in a match ends the but immediately. S, the final utcme f each match is determined by: 1. If a fighter scres tw submissins ver his ppnent, he autmatically wins. 2. If either fighter has an advantage in submissins (1-0) at the end f the match, he wins. 3. If there is n advantage in submissins (0-0 r 1-1), the but is decided by a pll f the judges wh will evaluate the actin accrding t the criteria listed abve.

2 REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: ISKA SPORT MMA RULES SUBJECT TO CHANGE ISKA apprved cmbined shin and instep prtectrs. ISKA apprved glves (minimum 7 z. padded glve fr adults). Muth Guard Grin Prtectr (males) Shrts Shirt / Rash guards. Knee & elbw pads are nt permitted. Neither is strapping f any kind which can cause grip advantage. N grease (Vaseline) is allwed t be applied t any part f the fighter. N shes are allwed. HYGIENE RULE: All cmpetitrs must be bathed and have clean apparel and equipment. If a referee feels this criteria has nt been met, he will nt allw the cmpetitr t participate. LEGAL STRIKES - HANDS: All hand strikes that ccur with the padded part f the glve executed in a cntrlled fashin (light r tuch-cntact nly. The strike cannt penetrate r distrt the target). Punches are allwed t the bdy and legs while n the grund. (in 16 & 17 yrs. & adult divisins) Fighters can push ff ppnents. N elbw strikes are allwed at any time t any part f the bdy r face. The entire head is a legal, nn-cntact target while bth fighters are standing Strikes t the head are nt allwed while n the grund. Striking t the kidney area, behind the head r neck is nt permitted. LEGAL STRIKES LEGS, KNEES & FEET: All kicking techniques are allwed with light/tuch cntact t the frnt and side f the bdy abve the belt, and light cntact rundhuse kicks are allwed t the legs. NO linear kicks are allwed directed t the legs. Light/tuch cntact knee strikes are allwed t the bdy and legs in adult divisins nly while standing. All lw kicks must be minimum 6 inches abve the knee and all ther kicks, abve the waist. N kicking t ppnents is allwed nce the match ges t grund by either f the cmpetitrs. SHOOTS, CLINCHES & TAKE DOWNS: Any attempt at executing a takedwn r Sht must be dne s with the primary mtive t g t grund as quickly as pssible. Once any kind f standing clinch is engaged, each fighter will have up t five secnds (in the referee s estimatin) t take the match t the grund. If the takedwn des nt ccur the referee will break the fighters and restart the actin. Any attempt t walk with the lifted ppnent r raise the ppnent higher ff the grund than is deemed necessary t execute a safe take dwn will be cnsidered a serius ful with a high prbability f immediate disqualificatin. N exceptin t this rule will be allwed under any circumstance. N spearing r dive tackling is permitted. N scissrs takedwns are permitted, unless a hand is first placed n the mat.

3 All shts must be premeditated and fllwed up with at least a guard munt r attempt t pass the guard. Shting r taking dwn f ppnent withut an attempt t fllw up will be met with ne and nly ne cautin. If a fighter attempts a sht / takedwn and is nt immediately successful, the referee may at his discretin break the fighters. Standing Clinches will be allwed fr nly a shrt perid (up t 5 secnds in the referee s estimatin), and nly if either fighter appears t be scring effectively in sme way r making prgress twards a takedwn. If a fighter is scring effectively with strikes, and his ppnent walks thrugh the strikes in rder t clinch, the clinching fighter must immediately take his ppnent dwn r the referee will break the fighters and restart the actin. Yu may nt execute any takedwn in a way that damages yur ppnent either in the way the takedwn was executed r by intentinally landing n tp f them in a manner t use yur bdy weight t d injury. Hip thrws are permitted. All preventin necessary must be taken t nt allw yur ppnent t fall n his r her/head r attempt t drp the ppnent n the back f their neck r head as the fall t the grund. Yu are allwed t pull ppnent twards yu when ging t grund. GRAPPLING SUBMISSIONS & LOCKS: It is VERY imprtant that all cmpetitrs understand hw t "Tap Out" when caught in a submissin technique. Tapping ut can be dne either verbally r thrugh a physical tap. Cmpetitrs can tap with their hands, feet, r even a nd f the head. This "Tapping" is a cnscius admissin f surrender t an ppnent. GROUND ACTIVITY RULE: Once the cntest ges t the grund bth fighters must shw cntinuus effrt t significantly advance their psitins r take advantage f their psitin by either scring with legal strikes r trying t secure a submissin. Failure t significantly advance r take advantage f their psitin will result in having the match std up and re-started. ALL SUBMISSION TECHNIQUES are legal fr adults with the fllwing exceptin; N twisting neck cranks r angled leg/ft/ankle lcks. SPECIAL RULES FOR KIDS & TEENS: N heel hks, tehlds, slamming, r neck cranks are allwed. N straight ankle lcks where the leg crsses the bdy (reaping f knee). N squeezing the legs arund an ppnent's trs (frm guard, back, r side) as a submissin. N scissr takedwn is permitted, whether a hand is n the grund r nt. SPECIAL RULE FOR KIDS: Submissin techniques may be restricted r prhibited based n age divisin. This will shift the judges evaluatin emphasis t clean striking, wrestling and cntrl. A referee may als call a submissin immediately when it appears that a legitimate submissin lck is engaged (the referee des nt need t wait fr the yuth fighter t tap ) OTHER FOULS: Fighters are nt allwed t grab and use their ppnents clthing. Attacks t the frnt f the windpipe (i.e. finger in thrat), eyes (elbws, palms, fingers, etc.) r grin. N pushing the palm r elbw directly int the nse. N drpping r slamming an ppnent n his head. N slamming frm the Guard psitin. eye guging, fish hking, biting, hair pulling, pinching, twisting f skin, sticking a finger int an ppnent s cut, small jint manipulatin (finger r te lcks), and putting a finger int any rifice are all FOULS and grunds fr disqualificatin. N interference by a crner with any fficial r fighter. N thrwing an ppnent ff the mat. N unsprtsmanlike cnduct. The Bstn Crab technique is nt allwed. Any intentinal use f an illegal technique r act f pr sprtsmanship will result in the immediate ejectin f thse cmpetitrs/spectatrs. The Chief referee reserves the right t stp any attempt at any submissin r lck, listed and un listed at any time f the match shuld he deem any such technique t be cnsidered dangerus in any way but nt restricted t the effect it has n an ppnent. In ther wrds while the attempt is being made t secure any technique which culd be deemed as unsafe.

4 The referee may declare a submissin if he believes that it is necessary in rder t prtect a fighter s safety r if he believes that a dwned fighter is in a cmprmised psitin that he cannt r chses nt t try t escape frm. (example: if the bttm fighter in a full munt psitin des nt try t escape the referee may declare a submissin) LENGTH OF MATCH: ALL JUNIORS: Tw 1.5 minute runds (with a thirty secnd rest). ADULT BEG/ INT: Tw 2 minute runds (with a thirty secnd rest). BEGGINER: One year f training r less. INTERMEDIATE: Tw years f training f less ADULT ADV: Tw 3 minute runds (with a thirty secnd rest). ADVANCED: Mre than tw years f training During the match, if there is stalling n the grund, the referee has the right t restart the match standing. If the cmpetitrs g ff the mat, the match can be stpped by the referee, and the cmpetitrs will be mved t the middle f the ring/mat in the same psitin, if that psitin can be determined by the referee. The referee has the right t stp time and check the cnditin f the fighters. LEGAL TARGET AREAS: Head and face (n cntact), ribs, chest, abdmen & legs (abve knees). ILLEGAL TARGET AREAS: Spine, back f neck/head, thrat, sides f the neck, Kidneys, grin, knees and back. NON-TARGET AREAS: Hips, shulders, buttcks, arms, and feet. LEGAL TECHNIQUES: As described abve. Legal techniques are all cntrlled martial arts techniques, except thse listed as illegal. ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES: Head butts, hair pulls, bites, scratches, elbws, knees (Junirs), eye attacks f any kind, stmps, kicks t a dwned cmpetitr, slapping, uncntrlled blind techniques, any uncntrlled thrws, takedwns r sweeps with the intentin f slamming the ppnent t the grund r landing with excessive frce n tp f ppnent and any ther uncntrlled dangerus techniques that are deemed unsafe in sprt Martial Arts. GRABBING: Is allwed but n pulling n any part f the pants, tp r glves wrn by any cmpetitr. SWEEPS, TAKEDOWNS, GRABS AND GROUND SPARRING: Sweeps t take dwn an ppnent, t bstruct the balance s as t fllw up with a technique is allwed. A sweep must be deemed a prper and safe sweep t be legal. Cntrlled sweeps that are meant t take dwn an ppnent are allwed nly n a declared apprved padded surface. LIGHT TOUCH CONTACT: Means there is n penetratin r visible mvement f the cmpetitr as a result f the cntact. The face is a legal target area whilst stand up fighting is in play. MODERATE TOUCH CONTACT: Means slight penetratin r slight target mvement. WARNINGS AND PENALTIES: The referee will at his discretin issue cautins, warnings, penalties and r disqualificatin fr rules infractins. An fficial penalty will have the same effect n the but as a submissin.

5 If, in the pinin f the referee and/r the medical persnnel, a cmpetitr cannt cntinue because f an injury caused by an illegal penalized attack executed by his/her cmpetitr, the ffending cmpetitr shall be autmatically disqualified. Other Cause fr Penalizatin: Attacking illegal and nn-target areas, using illegal techniques, running ut f the ring t avid cmpeting, Preventing yur ppnent frm initiating cmbat, cntinuing after being rdered t stp, excessive stalling, blind, negligent r reckless attacks, uncntrlled techniques, shwing unsprtsmanlike behaviur by the cmpetitr, his/her caches, friends, etc., excessive cntact, and delay f time are examples f pssible penalizatin. Nn-Cmpeting Penalty: If, in the majrity pinin f the fficials, it is cnsidered that the cmpetitrs are nt making an bvius attempt t cmpete in the true spirit f cmpetitin, bth cmpetitrs will be warned and if it cntinues, will be disqualified. Wrng Divisin: If any cmpetitr cmpetes in a divisin he/she des nt qualify t cmpete in due t age, weight, rank, gender, style, etc. (sandbagging), he/she will risk disqualificatin. COACHING: The luxury f having a cach is smething that mst cmpetitrs d nt have access t. Therefre, it smetimes can becme an unfair advantage ver a cmpetitr wh des nt have a cach. The rules are made and enfrced s n ne cmpetitr has an advantage r disadvantage ver anther cmpetitr. Therefre, caching is allwed but nly under the fllwing guidelines: Never, at any time, can a cach enter the ring withut the referee s permissin, 2. N abusive, vilent, unsprtsmanlike r verzealus caching; 3. Caches cannt ask fr a time ut (nly the cmpetitr may ask fr a time ut), 4. Caches can never, at any time, interfere with the prper running f the ring r the decisins f the judges. A Cach is defined as anyne wh is trying t help ne cmpetitr in anyway. A cach culd be but is nt limited t a friend, parent, team mate r fficial cach. The centre referee can issue a warning t a cmpetitr fr each time his/her cach is interfering with a match r disrupting fair play between cntestants.
