2 Academics 6th grade life Student Life Home Arts By: Eden Hoover What s up 6th graders? There are many numerous, enjoyable and exciting classes you can take in 7th grade. Next year you are going to be able to choose what you want to do for your elective. For example, home arts with Mrs. Corsentino. Home Arts is an exciting elective where you learn to cook, sew, and clean. You will learn how to cook French toast, spaghetti, pizza, cookies, and cupcakes (Yum!). You start out with the basics of sewing, such as buttons, stiching, pinning, and hand crafts. You get to choose between a teddy bear, dog, seal, duck, big or little football, basketball, and a hedgehog (Cute!). So sign up for Mrs. Corsentino s home arts class. You wouldn t wan to risk missing all of this, would you? Industrial Technology By Jessica Williams Industrial technology is taught by Mr. Freddette and it is an elective for 7Th and 8th graders, but don t worry 6th, graders because you can sign up for it next year. Industrial technology is a great class to learn how to weld, use a metal lathe, and learn about electrical circuits. After you make your projects, you can take them home to show off after they re graded. You can make many different projects, and you learn so much from it. But be careful! Take pre-caution! This class does involve heavy machinery. But, if you listen to all the rules and follow them, you will be fine. Don t be hesitant to sign up for this class! Art By, Talyor Millot Hello students, I m sure you have all heard of the wonderful art teacher, Mrs. Elcar. In her class, you do many fun projects, no matter what grade you are in. For example, in sixth grade art you learn about Vincent Van Gogh, which is an artist who painted the very famous piece, Starry Night. Also, for the 7 th graders are working with water colors, and pastels. Next, each grade does a line study, this is where you draw simple lines, and learn how to draw pictures from just your sight.in art class you will also do craft studies, mosaics, and watching videos on how to make clay vases and pots. So if you have her next quarter, or you if you sign up for art class next year, you ll definitely enjoy it. By: Mikaylah Traverson Hey 6th graders! Hope you re having fun at Balboa! You should try to keep your grades up and get on honor roll, because the magic mountain trip is right around the corner! Plus next year you can do a bunch of fun activities that you couldn t do as a sixth grader. For example, you could be in ASB, yearbook, or teacher or office assistant. These are just a few of the many electives you can choose as a 7th grader. You can also go to the dances with 8th graders every quarter, which are a lot of fun. So keep working hard and enjoy the end of your first year at Balboa Middle School. 7 th Grade Life By: Joanna Covarrubias Hello 7 th graders! Hope you re having a great time here at Balboa! The year is almost over so try to get the best grades you can, because if you get a GPA of 3.5 or higher for three quarters, you get to go to Magic Mountain at the end of the year! Next year you can look forward to being a teacher assistant, office assistant, and many more fun and exciting classes. You also get to enjoy the eighth grade dance, beach day, and graduation. Remember, Balboa is about clean, safe, respectful learning, so follow these rules for the ending of a great year! 8th Grade LIfe By: Janae Rodriguez and Julie Perez Hey 8 th graders! It s almost the end of a new year here at Balboa. Remember try to get your grades up, the best you can before graduation,so you won t miss out on the great activities at the end of the year. Make sure to get honor roll because, that helps your chances of the high school you want to attend. If you didn t know already the 8th grade dance is May 31 st and the 8 th grade Beach Day is June 3 rd. Good luck 8 th graders, it s going to be your last year at Balboa Middle School, you all came so far from the beginning of 6 th grade so make all the very best memories you can!
3 Student Highlights Staff Highlights Mrs. Kennedy By Julie Kaitlyn Herrera By: Joanna Covarrubias Kaitlyn Herrera is currently a seventh grader here at Balboa. She loves to dance, she loves the color blue, and her favorite subject is math. When asked if she were to be deserted on an island with only three things she would take a motorhome, her pillow, and soda. So if you see her around give her a wave! Mrs. Haggerty By: Peter Jespersen Mrs. Haggerty is one of the sixth grade math and social studies teachers here at Balboa. In all the time Mrs. Haggerty has been working here, she still loves watching her students learn and grow. The main reason she became a teacher was because she loves learning and enjoys being around kids. Mrs. Haggerty supports and participates in the Schools for Salone club. Every year, Mrs. Haggerty assigns very creative projects to her classes this includes making a mud brick, creating your own mummy, and researching an aspect of China. When she isn t teaching, Mrs. Haggerty enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, watching movies, and being with her family. When asked what animal she would want to be, she replied that she would rather be a squirrel than a raccoon. Mrs. Haggerty is a very cool teacher so if you see her around school, say hello! Mrs. Haggerty is a 7 th grade science teacher here at balboa. She has been working here for over 8 years. Wow! She loves to teach because she loves to see her students learning and understanding the subject. Her favorite project to assign to her students is the skeleton project. If she had a million dollars she would buy a new volks wagon, and put the rest of the money in the bank. She can even speak sign language. So if you see her give her say hello! Gavin Conary By Bryce Tallent Gavin Conary is an athletic and smart 6 th grader here at balboa. He likes to play baseball outside of school. He would rather go camping than go to Magic Mountain because he loves to spend time with friends and family. His favorite type of dinner food is sea food. His favorite flavor of soda is Dr. Pepper. If he could have any type of animal for a pet, he responded a panda bear. So if he see him around, give him a wave. Mrs. King By: Janae Rodriguez Mrs. King is a new teacher here at Balboa. She teaches 6 th grade, 6 grade social studies,p.e, 7th grade World Geography and 7th grade Language Arts. Some of her hobbies are running, playing tennis, coaching youth teams, and spending time with her family. When we asked her if she could go anywhere in the world, she said she would go to Europe and travel to all the countries and see the many interesting sites. Her favorite move is When Harry Met Sally because of the romance and the comedy. She loves teaching because she likes working with students and enjoys watching them grow and learn. Her favorite project to assign to her 6 th grade class is the China Project and her favorite project to assign to her 7 th graders is the medieval three dimensional projects. Mrs. King is a really cool teacher so if you see her around say HEY!
4 Basketball By: Anna Brondos Sports Balboa basketball had a great season for both the girls and the boys. Each of the teams was coached by Mr. Anter. A big thanks to Balboa students and staff for all the support you have given the two teams. Everyone had a good time this past season. When Jazmin Carrasco was asked about what she liked about playing basketball for balboa she said, I liked playing with my friends and watching the boys basketball team succeed. Thank you, Mr. Anter for all your hard work and dedication coaching these two amazing teams. Once again, great job Balboa boys, for winning second place, in the championship tournament. Field Hockey BY, Jessica Lopez This field hockey season, was great for Balboa! This year the girls were undefeated and were tied with Anacapa. This year s team was great and their coaches loved this season! one of the coaches, Mr. Hertenstein, said his favorite memory of the season was watching the all of the teams run through the sprinklers after one of their games. He says his favorite part of coaching field hockey is being outdoors and seeing the kids smile! So if you are thinking of joining field hockey next year, give it a try! Anime Club By, Savanah Pelletier Anime club is presented by Mr. Chapin in room 16 on every Wednesday at lunch. The Anime club is open to all grades. It is a place to for all you cartoon lovers to watch movies of different types of graphics. So join this exciting and fun club if you want to learn about all the amazing wonders in drawing anime. Drama Club By: Mia De La O Clubs Chess and Games Club By: Natalie Chavez Do you like fun games? Then you should join chess and game club. It s every Wednesday at lunch. The teacher who runs this club is Mrs.Edgar in who is a 7 th and 6 th grade teacher. You can bring your lunch and play such games as chess with your friends and with many other games to choose from. For example some games you can choose from are cards, checkers, and board games. You can also spend time with your friends and hang out while playing interactive games. Mrs. Edgar is in room 31 for more information. Do you have a passion for acting? Then Drama Club is the activity for you! It takes place almost every Wednesday in Mrs. Chapin s room, which is room 48, at 3 o clock after school. While being in Drama, You will also be able to take part in the annual play. This occurs every year, during the second semester. For example, last year the play was Beauty and the Beast, and this semester, it will be The Little Mermaid. All you have to do is audition for what character or part you want. Besides the play, you will also have to practice your acting and singing, which will just help you even more. So next year, if you have an urge to sing, dance, and just act, then Drama Club is definitely for you!
