1 Pre-Conduction Report Submitted by: Rishi Raj Singh (General Secretary Cultural Council) Keshav Agrawal & Shantanu Mishra (Overall Co-ordinators)
2 Introduction Galaxy, the inter hall cultural championship after a successful come back after many years last to last year is back again this year. Galaxy is scheduled to be held from 29 th March to 3rd April, Meetings were held to decide the rules and competitions to be held, regulations, schedule, point system etc. The Pool structure as decided on the senate floor would be: Mauryans : Hall 3 + Hall 10 +GH-1 Rajputs : Hall 2 + Hall 4 + Others Mughals : Hall 5 + Hall 8 + Hall 1 Marathas : Hall 9 + Hall 7 + GH2 All these pools are allowed to use a sum of INR 45,000 for the preparation and participation in Galaxy. Organising Team The core team would consist of the following: 1. Rishi Raj Singh (General Secretary Cultural Council) 2. Keshav Agrawal (Overall Co-ordinator) 3. Shantanu Mishra (Overall Co-ordinator) We shall also include other co-ordinators and other members, but shall disclose them only after the completion of. Point Structure Any competition held in Galaxy 10, the points shall be awarded finally to the pool. Every competition has got maximum points, and the points would be awarded as follows: 1 st Place:100% of the maximum points 2 nd Place: 60% of the maximum points 3 rd Place: 30% of the maximum points 4 th Place: 10% of the maximum points Policy of awarding the points to the pool Galaxy is a competition between 4 pools, as a policy the final points shall be awarded to the pool in all the competitions and not individual team performance if there are more than one team per pool. The total points given by judges to the teams of each pool shall be summed up total points of the pool shall be considered to award the final points of the event.

6 Role of Pool Leaders Pool leader is shall give the final participation list to the Galaxy coordinators in any event Pool leader shall only launch complaints if any to the Galaxy coordinators during the event Pool leader has the right to call a meeting between various Pool Leaders, Hall Captains and Galaxy Organising Team if there has been any controversy/complaint during the competitions Grievance Reddressal Committee Any grievances not solved by the organising team shall go to the GRC. Keeping the experiences with last year Galaxy, we shall request to form a new GRC. We would like to propose: 1. Dean Student Affairs 2. Counsellor Cultural Council 3. President Students Gymkhana 4. 7 Details of Various Competitions 1. Event Name: Group Dance No. of Teams per Pool: 1 Duration: Maximum of 10 mins of Audio file 1. The duration of the file shall be strictly less than or equal to 10 mins. 2. No limit in no. of participants in the group dance 3. Props should be used for atleast 1 min. Choreography 40 Energy 15 Synchro 15 Innovation 10 Overall Impact 15 Use of Props 5 2. Event Name: Dance Drama No. of Teams per Pool: 1 Duration: Maximum of 10 mins of Audio file 1. The duration of the file shall be strictly less than or equal to 10 mins. 2. No limit in no. of participants in the group dance. 8 4. Event Name: Impromptu Dance No. of Teams per Pool: 4(single member team) Duration: 90 secs per person 1. The duration of the file shall be strictly 90secs. 2. A random audio would be started once the person enters the stage. This file shall not be disclosed before. Choreography 30 Energy 30 Overall Impact 25 Stage Coverage Event Name: Stage Play No. of Teams per Pool: 1 Duration: Maximum of 1 hrs 15 min. Curtain to Curtain 1. No language bar (It can be both in English or Hindi or Both). 2. Obscenity is left to the judges. 3. Negative marking is left to the judges for exceeding the time limit 4. The play chosen by the pool should not be the one performed by dramatics club, IIT Kanpur or any Galaxy team in the past 5 years. Script + Direction 40 Acting 25 Sounds & Lights 10 Props, Costume & Stage Setup 15 Overall Impact & Innovation Event Name: Street Play No. of Teams per Pool: 1 Duration: Maximum of 25 mins 1. No language bar (It can be both in English or Hindi or Both). 2. Obscenity is left to the judges. 3. Negative marking is left to the judges for exceeding the time limit, however exceeding of time due to applause shall not be considered for negative marking. 4.No repetition of ideas from any source is allowed. Any negative marking due to this would be left solely on the discretion of the judges. Script 25 Acting 20 Direction 15 Energy & Voice 20
9 Body Art 5 Overall Impact Event Name: Picture Abhi Baaki Hai No. of Teams per Pool: 1 Duration: Maximum of 15 mins Theme: A 30 second clip of a popular Hindi movie scene shall be given 24 hours before the event. The pools are expected to enact a 15 min. skit in continuation of that scene; taking forward the scene in whichever direction they want. 1. No language bar (It can be both in English or Hindi or Both). 2. Obscenity is left to the judges. 3. Negative marking is left to the judges for exceeding the time limit, however exceeding of time due to applause shall not be considered for negative marking. Humor 40 Acting 20 Quality of story(vis-à-vis orginal) 30 Overall Impact Event Name: Band Competition 1 (Eastern, Fusion and Popular) No. of Teams per Pool: 1 Duration: Maximum of 25 mins 1. Negative points shall be left to the judges for exceeding the time limit. Judging Criteria shall be left to the judges, however the following criteria shall be suggested : 1. Originality 2.Quality of Song selection 3. Synchronization 4. Energy on stage/stage presence/crowd involvement 5. Individual Skills 9. Event Name: Band Competition 2 (Western and Rock) No. of Teams per Pool: 1 Duration: Maximum of 25 mins 1. Negative points shall be left to the judges for exceeding the time limit. Judging Criteria shall be left to the judges, however the following criteria shall be suggested : 1. Originality 2.Quality of Song selection 3. Synchronization
10 4. Energy on stage/stage presence/crowd involvement 5. Individual Skills 10. Event Name: Pair on Stage No. of Teams per Pool: 3 Duration: Maximum of 10 mins per team 1. Negative points shall be left to the judges for exceeding the time limit. 2. No repetition of performers is allowed. 3. Throughout the performance, including the sound check, only the two performers would be allowed on stage. 11. Event Name: Back Drop 1(Submission) No. of Submissions per Pool: 1 Date of Judging: 3 rd April Theme : Glory Size: 12ft(height) X 15ft(width) IMP: Only oil paints are allowed. 12. Event Name: Back Drop 2(Submission) No. of Submissions per Pool: 1 Date of Judging: 3 rd April Theme : 3 colours (White + 2, where white color shouldn t be visible on the backdrop and the mixing of the other two colors is not allowed.) Genre: Realism Size: 12ft X 12ft IMP: Only oil paints are allowed. 13. Event Name: Wax/soap Carving (Competition) No. of teams per Pool: 3(1 each) Theme: On spot Size: One piece of wax/1 soap per individual is allowed. 3hr event. 14. Event Name: Wall painting(competition) No. of teams per Pool: 1

Event Name: Thermocol Carving(Submission) No. of Submissions per Pool: 1 Date of Judging: 3 rd April Theme : Monuments Size: 3ft X 4ft X3ft to 5ft X 5ft X 5ft Thermocol should be only cut or carved no other work(i.e painting or decoration is not counted) 16. Event Name: Charcoal Sketching (Competition) No. of teams per Pool: 4 (1 member each) Duration : 3hrs Theme : Would be given on the spot Size: White sheet of A3 size 17. Event Name: Missing Link (Competition) No. of teams per Pool: 2 (2 persons each) Duration : 1 st round: 1hr ; 2 nd round: 30 mins Theme : Would be given on the spot Size: 1 st round :A3 ; 2 nd round: A4 18. Event Name: Structures The structure making does not have any rules in specific it is open for innovation. They should be displayed on the final day i.e 3 rd April in the auditorium grounds. The size limit shall be 30ft*30ft on ground and a maximum height of 30ft. Aesthetics and Finishing 60 Strength/Stability/Efficiency of Structure* 40 Innovation 60 Theme Depiction 40
12 Theme shall be given 7 days prior to the date of final display. By efficiency of structure, we mean the effective use of materials in the structure 19. Event Name: General Quiz 20. Event Name: Sports Quiz 21. Event Name: Mela Quiz 22. Event Name: India Quiz One round shall be solely dedicated to Indian mythology. 23. Event Name: IMDB Top 250 Top 250 as of 28 th March Event Name: Dumb Charades (English) No. of teams per Pool: 3 (3 members each) Rules and Regulations: The event shall usually consist of one actor and two guessers. The other rounds shall be variations of the same principle. The actor shall act out movies/places/books/personalities/characters and the guessers have to guess the items in the minimum amount of time. (Pictionary consists of one actor and one guesser. The actor will have to draw out whatever he is acting. He is not allowed to use body movements to help the guessers.) 25. Event Name: Word Games (English) No. of teams per Pool: 2 (2-3 members each) Rules and Regulations: The Event will consist of Scrabble and Word Games. The minimum and maximum number of people for each part will be: 1 for Scrabble 2-3 for Word-Games 26. Event Name: Parliamentary Debate (English) 27. Event Name: JAM No. of teams per Pool: 3 (1 members each) Rules and Format : The person has to speak in grammatically correct, formal English for as long as he can without getting buzzed by the other opponents. The other participants job is to catch the grammatical errors of the speaker. Points are
13 awarded for both, speaking and error spotting. 28. Event Name: Group extempore (English) No. of teams per Pool: 1 (4 members each) Rules and Format : The format shall be similar to the TV show Whose Line is it anyway? and the rounds will be similar. The event is basically an extempore and an on-the-spot skit pertaining to the given topic. 29. Event Name: Dumb Charades (Hindi) No. of teams per Pool: 4 (3 members each) Rules and Regulations: The event shall usually consist of one actor and two guessers. The other rounds shall be variations of the same principle. The actor shall act out movies/places/books/personalities/characters and the guessers have to guess the items in the minimum amount of time. 30. Event Name: Word Games (Hindi) No. of teams per Pool: 3 (3 members each) Rules and Format : The Event will consist of Pictionary and Word Games. 31. Event Name: Debate (Hindi) No. of teams per Pool: 1 (3 members each) Format and Rules: The topic would be given 2 hours before the start of the event. Each pool shall have at least one speaker speaking for and one speaker speaking against the given topic. The order of speaking shall be decided by lottery. The speaker would be given 4 minutes to express himself. Each speaker shall be asked 3 questions from the other 3 pools. The judging criteria would be left to the judges. 32. Event Name: Chhitakashi Format and Rules: A given theme is to explained through any way for example skit, speech or poem/songs. 33. Event Name: Creative Writing (Hindi) No. of teams per Pool: 3 (2 members each) Topic shall be given on the spot 34. Event Name: Galaxy Parade Date: 29 th March Route: Road connecting Hall swimming pool to New SAC Rules: The Pool leader and hall captains shall guide the route. Use of obscene words or signs shall not be entertained and reported to the judges. 35. Event Name: Pool T-shirt Design Printed T-shirt should be submitted by 28 th March 20:00hrs
14 Rules: Both the soft copy design (already submitted to the organising team) and the t-shirt sample (to be submitted by the pool) would be given to the judges. 36. Event Name: Pool Flag Design Painted version of Flag should be submitted by 28 th March 20:00hrs Rules: The flag sample would be given to the judges. The flag dimensions should be 1350 * 900 mm (Standard Size Number 5 of the Indian National Flag). 37. Event Name: Antakshari (Bollywood Songs only) 38. Event Name: Kite Flying No. of kites per pool: 5 Rules and Point system: Each team shall fly 5 identical kites representing their pool.points shall be awarded to the pool which cuts a kite of any pool. After all kites are done the no. of points gained per pool shall be taken and evaluated for final result. 39. Event Name: Pool Video No. of videos per team: 1 Date of presentation/judging : 3 rd April Video Length : 10 mins maximum Rules: Each team has to shoot a video about its pool over the time of preparation and competition and shall present the video on the final day. 40. Event Name: Hall1 Wall Sketching No. of team: 1 per pool (No limit on no. of participants) Time: 6hrs Theme: On spot An individual can participate from any pool. 41. Event Name: Tug-of-War No. of teams per pool: 1 (8 members) Rules: Standard Rules of Tug-of-War. An individual can participate from any pool.
