The RV Ranch Resort is a Jellystone park and in a great location with all the amenities that our members will need to enjoy this November weekend. Make your commitment today to attend our final rally by going to our website and filling out the Registration Form. Your Host Committee has some great plans for this rally. THE POLKA DANCERS November 2013 OCKTOBERFEST We arrived at River View about noon on Wednesday and found many of our members already entrenched, set up in the shade and enjoying the beautiful fall weather. By Thursday evening everyone had arrived except the two members scheduled for Friday. Besides the thirty coaches camped at Riverview, five members were driving from their homes. We were here for a rally two years ago but there have been many improvements made to the park since that time. They have added, and are continuing to add, more sites with large concrete pads for parking and sitting outside. Oh..unless we forget, there is the occasional train. The host committee did another outstanding job. They started serving on Thursday evening and keeping with the Oktoberfest theme we had a selection Continued on pg 2
2 Page 2 Continued from pg 1 of cold cuts, bread, veggies, dips and chips for dinner. We topped that off with cookies made by Carol. Poker, games and visiting followed the dinner hour. Friday afternoon members assembled down the hill near the Guess, Holloway, Campbell, and Kriesman coaches where the proud owners were showing off their new and exchanged coaches. Everyone appeared to divide up.climb the steps and inspect each one. Drinks and food were served by the coach hosts and everyone enjoyed the afternoon. That evening we were served the second of the German style meals prepared and served by the host committee. One of our Special guests was the manager of the Choctaw Casino KOA in Durant, Charlie Tyree. He was given credit for providing some special entertainment, Miss Loretta Lynn who sang for the group one of the popular numbers, She s Got You, which she wrote and released in Other guests were Lacy Davis, great granddaughter of J R and Fran Monk. Lisa Lee Lee (you read it correct Lee is the middle and last name), Connie and Tuck Tucker s daughter who surprised them flying in from Oregon. The occasion was a family celebration of the Tucker s 50 th Wedding Anniversary that was in September. Tom and Marci Walton, guest of the Peadons also joined us on Friday. Hazel and Ben Graham drove up for the afternoon. On Saturday afternoon Robert and Maureen Robinson and Grady Bass and Judy Lewis dropped by for a short visit. We started the day Saturday with a breakfast of biscuits, jelly, gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee and juice. Everyone drifted off to their coach or someplace for the big Texas OU footballgame before lunch but drifted back for the craft and tech sessions scheduled at 2. The ladies were easily diverted from the game.the men waited till the final nail was hammered in the OU coffin. The Ladies, led by Connie, made crafts appropriate for the fall season and the men listened to a presentation on coach batteries given by Bob Kriesman. The dinner Saturday evening was awesome, consisting of Sauer Kraut, brats, German potato salad, strudel with ice cream and drinks. Following dinner some very attractive German polka dancers, and one less than attractive man, entertained the group. With only a little encouragement many of our members were enticed to come forward and join in and learn the chicken dance. Before concluding the dinner hour the hosts committee gave ten $5.00 gift certificates to some lucky members in a drawing.. our guest Lacy Davis helped by drawing the member F numbers from a container held by Carol. Cards, poker, and visiting followed. Sunday morning s breakfast consisted of Scones, left over biscuits, gravy, eggs, fruit, juice and coffee. Snoopy led members in a short devotion before everyone gathered themselves to prepare for the trip back home. Following the devotional, the few food items that were left over were auctioned off. Our many thanks to the permanent October host committee for another outstanding job. The October rally has become one of the more popular rally months of the year..we are already looking forward to next year. Triple R News CRAFT/TECH SESSIONS This month we will not have our traditional ladies crafts and Men s Tech session, instead we are asking our members (male and female) to bring for display an example of what they enjoy doing. Is it collecting, a hobby, a craft or art?? Please bring a sample(s) of your special interest for displaying in our rally room on Saturday afternoon. This will be a wonderful time of sharing and getting to know each other s talents and interests. Connie 2014 RED RIVER ROVERS MARCH 6-9 Coffee Creek RV Resort Santo, TX. 3 Volume 13, Issue 105 Page 3 DA AWARD When our members arrived at River View RV Park all were told that the water pressure was high and that it would be required to use a pressure regulator. I took a poll of those in the club room and found that everyone there had taken that advice and experienced no trouble at all. Of course, there s one in every group who did not follow instructions.this member, Bill McGuire, connected without the regulator. So what happens? He hooked up his electricity, sewer, and water and as predicted the water blows out a fitting under the sink. Hilda tried hollering to him.bill was without his hearing aids and either doesn t hear or is ignoring her. When he finally finished hooking up the coach he opens the door and out fly the dogs with their water wings abandoning the ship. Bill, once again you are selected to receive the DA Award, this time for the month of October. Gary RALLY ATTENDEES Seventy-four members registered and attended the rally at River View. Besides those listed below there were a number of members who drove in for an afternoon without their coach. Bake 350 degrees for 10 minutes Remove from oven and let pan cool for a few minutes. Remove bars and let cool on wax paper. Enjoy, Dee Holloway What a great turnout for our October rally in Colbert, Oklahoma. I believe it was the largest attendance we have had this year. The activities and entertainment provided by our host committee, as well as by many of our members, really contributed to a fun filled weekend that was enjoyed by all. It is hard to believe that our next rally will be the final RV rally for the year. So make plans now to join us for a fun filled weekend November 7-10 at the RV Ranch Resort in Keene, Texas. I want to personally thank our members who have served on a host committee during the past year. We still need members to step-up and volunteer to host on a committee during the 2014 rally year. Please, I encourage all our members who have not served on a host team to be a part of a rally committee this coming year. Erika and I hope all of you are able to attend the rally in Keene, Texas. 6 STORAGE BATTERIES The October Tech session started with a detailed explanation on how a standard 12 volt battery was constructed. This way the members would have a better understanding of what makes a battery do its job. It then moved to modifying it to suit an RVer s needs. This meant thicker plates to allow longer deep cycling, which created more weight than what could easily be handled. As a result the battery was split apart to make (2) 6 volt batteries It then moved to series parallel hookups. For us memory challenged members ( - + volts ) was emphasized. The session closed with a discussion of new types of batteries on the market such as gel cell and activated glass mat batteries. Bob Kriesman
