On the Road Ocala Central Sams May 2018 Editor: Linda Drenning In this issue: Message from the President May Rally Highlights Rally Schedule Birthdays & Anniversaries Charity Committee Report Presidents Corner May 2018 Greetings, While the weather was not ideal during the rally in Cedar Key those that gathered seemed to have a very good time. Sue and I were unable to attend the entire rally because our RV was at Camping World for repairs. The big slide needed the entire slide system replaced. We got it back the day after the rally and it is once again ready for the road. We were able to drive over to the Cedar Key RV Resort on Wednesday morning and got there in time for a delicious breakfast of sausage gravy and biscuits along with some scrambled eggs. It was wonderful to see everyone and to meet four new couples that were visiting this week. During our meeting, Chuck Mentzel, Wagon Master, talked about the locations for our next seasons rallies and stressed that while some months have the hosts volunteers listed there are several that still need to be filled. Let me then stress here that the duties of the hosts are such that ANYONE can do them and for the newer members that have never hosted, there are a lot of us with plenty of experience that would be more than willing to assist if you need our help. I encourage each of you to step up and contact Chuck Mentzel and let him know that you are volunteering to host one of the rallies and get your name on the schedule. Together, we work to make Ocala Central Sams the best chapter in the Florida Good Sams Club. Finally, let me say that many of us will be on the road over the coming summer months and likely visiting family and further traveling to see new and exciting things. Please stay in touch with the rest of us and let us know where you are and what you are doing this summer. In addition, should you know of a member or you yourself find the need for words of encouragement, please contact anyone of the officers and we will reach out to others on your behalf and remember to contact Jody Dietz so that she as our Sunshine Chair can get a card mailed. Be safe, have fun, enjoy family and see this beautiful country. Sue and I will see you again in September. May Rally Cedar Key Resort, Cedar Key, FL The May Rally was held at the Cedar Key Resort in Cedar Key, FL. This rally was attended by 21 members and eight guests (see May Meeting Notes), for a total of 29 people. This was a fantastic outing, considering that some of our members have already started their summer adventures. Our guests were Ken and Paulette Baker, who are friends with Alan and Sandy Ritcey and live in Lakeland, FL. See Rally pg. 2 On The Road 1

Rally pg. 2 Tom & Linda Pierce, who are the brother/brother-inlaw and sister-in-law of Tom Robbins & Linda Olenych, Ronny & Cathy Haney, who are childhood friends of Dave & Linda Drenning and live in Weeki Wachee, FL., and Walt & Kay Rousch, who are friends of Dave & Linda Drenning and also live in Weeki Wachee. The Rally started out on Monday with all members arriving in the afternoon, including our guests. We had a lively happy hour on the porch of club house by the pool, which all enjoyed very much. After our greetings and conversations, all were invited back to bring their own main dish and cook out by the pool on the very large grill supplied by the resort. We had most of our attendees come back to grill burgers, chicken and steaks, and we enjoyed the meal in the comfort of the club house. After dinner, several members enjoyed playing the game of Left-Right-Center (LRC), where JoAnn Miner and guest Linda Pierce were victorious. On Tuesday, we started out the day with a hearty breakfast of Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Fruit and Juice. In the kitchen were Dave Drenning on Pancakes and Tom Robbins on Scrambled Eggs. Linda O and Linda D were holding down the fort serving fruit, juice and coffee. After the breakfast, most of our members gathered to car-pool into town to visit the Cedar Key Museum, where Linda Olenych had arranged a private tour for our club. Because of the size of our group, we split into two groups for the tour and each had our own docent. This tour was very educational, and we learned the history of Cedar Key, and how resilient the town has had to be to continue to survive. Cedar Key has been a major shipping port, site of one of the first railroads, had a commercial pencil and brush operation, had a fishing industry, and been successful at clam farming. Most recently they have started farming oysters as well. After the tour, most of the group enjoyed lunch across the street at Tony s Restaurant, which is know for its Clam Chowder. Others took in the town and visited the shops and pier. Tuesday afternoon we were on our own until happy hour at the clubhouse, after which time we enjoyed a dinner of pulled pork, Cole slaw, beans, salads and desserts. After dinner, several members enjoyed games at the club house, and others enjoyed taking a dip in the pool. Wednesday morning, we again gathered for breakfast, which included sausage gravy and biscuits and scrambled eggs. Rick and Sue Neblock were able to join us then, and we all enjoyed See Rally pg. 3 On The Road 2

Rally pg. 3 seeing them. Our meeting was conducted after breakfast, and all members were present, also our guests were introduced and recognized. After the meeting we had our traditional game of Bean Bag Baseball of Women vs. Men. Homeruns were hit by Coleen Fowler and EJ Comini for the Women, and there were also hits by Linda Olenych, Linda Drenning, Debbie Cerreto, Sandy Ritcey, Sue Neblock, JoAnn Miner and guests Paulette Baker and Linda Pierce. The game was even until around the seventh inning, at which time the men pulled away. Home runs were hit by Denis Fowler, Dave Drenning and guest Ken Baker, who had two home runs. Also scoring hits were Rick Neblock, Chuck Mentzel, Alan Ritcey, Paul Comini and Pat Cerrito. In the end the men won with a score of 15 to 8. In the afternoon we again gathered for happy hour at the club house and had a brief club meeting to discuss the issue of donating to our charities as stated in the minutes. After the meeting, we all enjoyed dinner as a group at Robinson s Seafood Restaurant. The food and service were great, and all enjoyed our meal. This rally was the last for the year, and we all enjoyed our time together very much. Even with the rainy weather, we all managed to have a good time and make new friends. We also had two of our guests join our club, Ken and Paulette Baker and Tom and Linda Pierce. We welcome them and hope they will enjoy our club. For the summer, please keep us informed of your travels, or anything that would be of interest to the club, so that we can forward to our members. In addition, we still need hosts for some of our rally s. Please consider volunteering to host, and let Wagon Master Chuck Mentzel know which one you would like to host. This has been an exciting and fun rally season, and we look forward to seeing everyone in the fall. Safe travels to all. On The Road 3

May Meeting Minutes May 16, 2018 Members present (21): Pat & Debbie Cerreto, Paul & EJ Comini, Dave & Linda Drenning, Denis & Coleen Fowler, Rose Marie Ladue, Chuck Mentzel & JoAnn Miner, Rick & Sue Neblock, Tom Robbins & Linda Olenych, Alan & Sandy Ritcey, Wayne Sayers, Gary Shartzer, Chuck & Susi Vroman. Call to Order: The May meeting was called to order by President Rick Neblock at 9:29 am. The invocation, Pledge of Allegiance and Good Sams s Pledge was led by Rick Neblock. Guests: Ken & Paulette Baker, Ronny & Cathy Haney, Walt & Kay Rousch, Tom & Linda Pierce Secretary Report: Linda Drenning noted that the April minutes were presented in the April Newsletter and asked if there were any additions, changes or questions. Hearing none, a motion to accept the minutes was made by Sandy Ritcey, a 2 nd was made by JoAnn Miner, which was noted by Rick Neblock and the minutes were accepted. Treasurer Report: Treasurer Debbie Cerreto stated that we received the paperwork from the department of Agriculture that we are in compliance with our status of a not for profit organization. We now have the right to go out and solicit items for our charities, which include Florida Dog guides, Boggy Creek and Interfaith. A new letter will be prepared and sent out to members to use when soliciting donations from businesses. A motion to accept the Treasurer Report was made by Sandy Ritcey and a 2 nd was made by Dave Drenning. The report was accepted by Rick Neblock. Wagon Master Report: Chuck Mentzel informed us that there is a change in the camping scheduled, the Dunedin resort cancelled our reservation for September. Chuck has re-scheduled the September rally at the Elite RV resort in Clermont. Hosts for this rally will be the Neblock s and Mentzel/Miners. The October rally is at Seasons in the Suns resort, hosts are the Cerreto s and Comini s. November is our fall rally in Eustis, be sure to get a reservation form and send it in to ensure your obtaining a site. Be sure to include that you are with the Ocala Sams so that you will be parked with the club. We still need hosts for December at Sun & Fun in Sarasota, March at Southern Palms in Eustis, April at Sherwood Forest in Orlando, and May at Fisherman s Cove in Tavares. Chuck is still looking to find a site for our rally in January. Chuck stated that we need to have members sign up to hosts these rallies for this coming rally season and encourages everyone to take their turn at being a host. If you would please think about which rally you would like to host please let him know. Historian Report nothing to report Sunshine Report: If you know of anyone who needs a card sent to them because of an event in their life, please be sure Call Jody Dietz during the summer months. Old Business: Charity Baskets for Eustis - JoAnn has started on our baskets, but still needs items to fill them. Some items received so far are donations of wine, cheese, gift cards, wine glasses, dog leashes, pet treats, spa slippers, soaps & gloves, and money. We also have a Quilt and Coleen Fowler is making complete purse selection. JoAnn informed us that at the Okeechobee Rally the club had a flea marker sale for one hour and we made $90, which brings a total of $189 to purchase items for our baskets. Items still needed are gift cards from stores such as Publix, Pet Smart, national restaurant chains, etc. Other items could be summer sausage gourmet crackers, cutting board, or chocolates. In November we will be doing another flea market at the Eustis Rally. If you have any small item s you could donate that would be appreciated. New Business: President Rick Neblock informed us that during the State meeting Okeechobee Rally it was decided that the Good Sams will no longer be using the Tallahassee venue for its Winter Rally, and that they did not sign a new contract. The State Club has lost money the last two years due to a declining attendance. He encouraged all of us to be on the lookout for other venues that can accommodate a large Rally, preferable south of Ocala. If you have suggestions, please contact him. Rick asked us to keep in touch this summer, and if we receive enough information from members, we would publish a special addition of the newsletter. In addition, you can post your travels on the Ocala Central Sam Facebook page or the Florida Good Sams Facebook page. Dave Drenning brought up that he and Pat Cerreto are going to make a batch of flag holders to sell at the Fall Eustis Rally. The proceeds are to go to our charities. 50/50 Raffle $70 was collected $35 the club, $ 35 to the winner, JoAnn Miner. Adjournment: With no other business to discuss a motion to adjourn was made by Sandy Ritcey, Rick Neblock accepted the motion and closed the meeting. See Mtg. Pg. 5 On The Road 4

Cont d from Pg. 4 Mtg. Addendum to minutes President Rick Neblock called to order a special meeting on Wednesday evening, May 16, to bring up an item that was not discussed at the earlier club meeting. JoAnn made a motion to spend some of the money in our account by making donations to our charities before we adjourned for the summer. After a brief discussion, it was decided to donate $200 to Florida Guide Dogs, $200 to Boggy Creek, $200 to Interfaith Emergency Services, and $100 to Rodeheaver Boys Ranch. Linda Olenych seconded the motion. There was additional discussion to answer questions for new members and guest about the charities we support. A vote was called and passed. Treasurer Debra Cerreto will process these donations and it will be reflected in the Treasurers report. A motion to adjourn was made by Linda Drenning at 4:45 PM and the meeting was adjourned. 2018/2019 Camping Schedule Wagon Master Chuck Mentzel Sept Elite Resorts, Clermont, FL, Hosts: Neblock's and Mentzel/Miner Oct Seasons in the Sun, Mims, FL , Rate: $29.70/night Cerreto s & Comini s Nov Southern Palms Resorts, Eustis, FL Fall Samboree.
