1 RED RIVER ROVERS November 2017 OCTOBER RALLY REPORT Hooray, it's time for our fall Red River Rover Rally in Choctaw, OK. Our rally started on Wednesday, October 19, even though there were few who arrived on Tuesday! We weren't all parked together this time; the coaches that are going on to 6 State in Texarkana will be staying until Tuesday so they were parked on the other side. The RV park had another big rally coming in on Sunday and needed our spots cleared. The weather was beautiful, which made hook ups very easy to accomplish. Our hosts had the rally room decorated with fall bouquets on each table. Our chairs came out so we could sit in the shade and hear about each other s adventures since we were last together. Soon the talk turned to food, which is a clear sign that it was dinner time. We scattered then 2017 CHAPTER OFFICERS President Bob Kriesman st Vice President John Sharpe nd Vice President Jane Grasso rd Vice President Mike Hillhouse Secretary Ann Kriesman Treasurer Rick Dennis National Director Connie Tucker Alternate National Director Jim McCollum Past President Jeannette Idell with some going to local restaurants, some went to the casino buffet and some ate in their coaches. We met later in the rally room to play Skipbo, Farkel, and Poker. Thursday morning some Rovers took advantage of being retired and enjoyed sleeping late, then went out to lunch and shopping. The day was free until 2 p.m. when we had 2 Open Houses to attend; we toured two beautiful new coaches and enjoyed wine and refreshments. Billy and Jeannette Idell welcomed us to their new coach; Randy and Terri Lane's new coach was parked next door and they had the welcome mat out for us. It was very crowded at both coaches with people enjoying looking at the coaches, the refreshments and the perfect weather. That evening we had a pot luck dinner where the cooks out did themselves. We had Continued pg 2 Inside This Issue 2017 Chapter Officers Rally Schedule 6 Anniversaries/Birthdays November Crafts 2 November Tech Session October Rally Attendees 2 October Rally Report HOSTHOST CMMITTEE 1, 2 October Tech Session Whoszat October Whoszat November Presidents Message 6 Vice President s Message 6 PERFECT ATTENDANCE AWARDS L to R: Randy and Terri Lane, Dennis and Erika Moore, Jayne and Keith Grasso, and Steve and Melody Beall.

2 Page 2 Continued from pg 1 a worthy project this month; we collected stuffed animals for the Durant Police Department. They give them to children that they have to relocate. The children have nothing much of their own, this gives them something of their own too hold and cuddle. We wanted to fill the 12 foot table by Saturday with all kinds of different animals. After dinner, we had Skipbo tables, 1 Farkel table and the men's Poker table. The shuttle bus was available to take you to the Casino also. On Friday our stuffed animal table was beginning to fill up. Our members are so generous and willing to participate in projects. A few years ago we made almost 100 small baby quilts and donated them. Sewing machines were humming away in the rally room at several rallies and at our homes. We brought the quilts to 6 State to combine with other area donations. We were all thrilled to have Darrell Gilliland with us at this rally. The hosts Jayne and Keith Grasso, Randi and Terri Lane, Steve and Melody Beall, Dennis and Ericka Moore prepared a dinner for us of Hamburger Steaks with Mushroom Gravy, Corn Casserole, Green Beans with dinner rolls. We played Card Bingo after dinner; four people divided up one deck of cards between them. The caller announced cards from his deck one at a time; whoever ran out of cards first won. It sure was fun!! Cards and poker finished the evening. Saturday breakfast was served at 9am; menu included two kinds of Breakfast bake, one with sausage and one with turkey. Eggs, biscuits and gravy with coffee, juices and jelly. Lunch on your own and then the afternoon activities began at 1:00 with the Men's tech session. This was followed at 2:00 with the Ladies craft session. They made darling deer out of corks. Social hour began at 5pm in the rally room. Dinner that night consisted of Oktoberfest food starting with Sautéed Sausages with bacon, Sauerkraut with apples, new potatoes, Green salad and dinner rolls with coffee and tea. Entertainment for the evening was the Glen Bonham Group, a great blue grass band; the four men could really play. Jayne had decided to give door prizes from the table decorations. She got so excited handing them out when the numbers were called. Snoopy had won a door prize and sat it on the table. Later Jayne was hunting the remaining decorations to give them away. Snoopy said, "Hey, where did my door prize go?" She had given it away to a man whose wife had already won one. She took it away and gave it back to Snoopy. The man did Ok though, during the auction for a beautifully constructed fall wreath, he out bid everyone and got the wreath. Cards and Poker followed. Sunday morning breakfast was at 9am; it was a continental breakfast of various rolls and muffins, juice and coffee. We had some good old congregational singing; Snoopy gave a devotional on "Worry" There were a few food items left to be auctioned off. After many goodbyes, everyone left for new adventures except the 6-State group, who would be leaving on Tuesday to Texarkana, Arkansas. D Hl w NOVEMBER CRAFT The craft this month will be sock snowmen. Materials are simple and the craft takes just a few minutes to make. With the time we have you just might assemble two or three for the coming month. A list of supplies and the cost of materials will be sent later. 3 Page OCTOBER TECH SESSION WHOSZAT OCTOBER WHOSZAT NOVEMBER At the Oktoberfest Rally we watched two videos from the FMCA website: Motorhome Fire Safety/ Prevention and Testing Motorhome Safety Devices: Smoke, Propane, CO, and Fire. If you were unable to attend you can find the videos on the FMCA home page under the tab Motorhoming and select Videos from the list. For better protection it s recommended that you have more than the one required fire extinguisher that comes with the Motorhome. Have additional ones located in the bedroom, front of the coach, in an unlocked outside compartment and in the tow vehicle. There are many helpful test steps to review in the Safety Device video. There was discussions around escaping thru the bedroom emergency exit window, something that we should all prepare for. NOV. TECH SESSION My plans for the November Tech Session are to review topics from the tech sessions presented at the Six-State Area Rally held in Texarkana. Those that attend will be asked to bring back material from the sessions and to share with the group in November what they found interesting and beneficial. If you have topics you would like to present at the November Rally or in the coming rally season please let me know. My address is: iisjr@hotmail.com. Mark your calendar for Saturday December 2 and make plans to attend the Christmas Luncheon in Denton, TX. This month s featured member was a challenge for almost everyone. It was none other than our Treasurer Rick Dennis. There were three members who thought it was Rick but most were focused on Ken Daugherty. Other members mentioned were Craig Mathews, and Billy Idell. We will not feature a member at our Christmas luncheon or in the January/Feburary Newletter.
