With so many of the members taking longer travel times to other areas too, only fifteen couples met in Guthrie. Sadly, there was the funeral for Leo Rollins that was scheduled for Thursday that otherwise would have had more at the rally in Guthrie before Thursday afternoon. Carol and Ron Hall led the hosting team of Bartls, Newbys and Gillilands. Carol is a master chef and had more organization for what needed to be done than is seen most of the time. Besides her making the list of foods, she was able to delegate what needed to be done in a timely manner. Carol prepared most of the dishes but Sue Bartl made the three cakes (from scratch) that were out of this world. Jan Newby with the other two was good with helping decorate the golf theme for the tables and all of the girls did the shopping. We also owe Carol our gratitude for cleaning, sorting and discarding some of the unwanted items in the chapter s tubs which carry needed items from one rally to another. There are some new items (such as the stainless steel container for iced tea or lemonade) as well as new serving utensils. All items have been listed on the outside of each tub. Some played golf on Friday and others made their way to downtown Guthrie to see the sights and shop. Some took the trolley rides but there was not time to schedule the trip to the Masonic Lodge Museum that had been hoped for. For those who have never been there, make sure it is on your schedule the next time you are there. For those who feared Oklahoma tornados in Guthrie, remembering the last rally held there, the weather was perfect! Making the minds come alive after dinner on Saturday evening, a game was played to name as many as possible of the towns and cities that are a part of both Texas and Oklahoma. Guess this helped ease the pain of some of us that are from both states! The Gillilands gave prizes that son Bert had made (rain gauges). One was the state of Texas and the other was Oklahoma. Bill McGuire won the game by naming six places. He, being from Texas, wanted the Texas rain gauge. A drawing was made for the other prize and Bartl s name was Continued, page 2

2 Continued LEO REMEMBERED Page 2 called. Bruce, being from Texas too, did not want an Oklahoma rain gauge and graciously gave it to his Oklahoma friends, the Moores. Funeral services for our friend and fellow chapter member Leo Rollins was held Thursday, October 14, in Greenville, Texas. At least 31 of our members attended the service to remember Leo and extend sympathy to Nita and her family. J R Monk, one of Leo s close friends, shared his memories of Leo during the service. Some of those memories related to his travels with the Red River Rovers. HAMEL ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR DA AWARD Triple R News Well Ray did it again..he forgot to complete his pilots check list before jumping behind the wheel of his coach and taking off for his home base. As the pictures below clearly show, he taxied out to the highway with the transmission still engaged in his tow vehicle. Luckily, Bill McGuire is still in shape for he ran Ray down and got him to stop by banging on the side of his coach as he was pulling onto Hwy 33. Our members have one month to beat Ray s performance. Good Luck. DWIGHT REMEMBERED Our chapter lost another of its members this month. Dwight Crater died Tuesday October 19. He and Kathy have been members of our chapter since the spring of Dwight has had Non-Hodgkin s Lymphoma for many years and has had many rounds of treatment. Memorial services will be Friday October 29 th at the Ingram Funeral Home in Quinlan, TX. The funeral home is located at hwy 751 and 276. TECH SESSION During our October Rally at Guthrie some of our members had trouble with both auto and coach batteries. A couple of trips were made into town for replacements..ron says the November Tech Session will be on the subject of: BATTERY MAINTENCE

Make your check payable to Red River Rovers, mail to: Dee Holloway, Treasurer Red River Rovers 2965 Crest Ridge Dr. Wylie, TX OCTOBER TECH SESSION by Ron Hall The October Technical session covered the types and uses of the most confusingly named devices in the RV world, namely, converters, chargers, and inverters. I have been working with various versions of these devices for pay and for fun for the past 40 years and I still sometimes have trouble using the correct name for the device I am discussing. This is because the names fall far short of a proper description of the device s usage. It is also complicated by the fact that each of my areas of experience (RV, Telecom, and HAM Radio) use different names for the same device. The short version is that (for the RV world only): Converter = A device that takes 120 volt AC from shore power or your generator and converts it to 12 volt DC to power the various 12 volt DC appliances in your RV. Charger = A device that takes 120 volt AC from shore power or your generator and converts it to a DC voltage appropriate to charge your house batteries based on their current charge status. This can vary from 13.5 volts to as much as 15 or 16 volts DC. Inverter = A device that takes 12 volt DC power from your house batteries and converts it to 120 volts AC to power the various appliances designed to take power directly from the 120 volt AC shore power circuit, when shore power is not available. The Converter and Charger are almost always combined into one unit in modern RVs and the Inverter is often also combined with the others into one integrated unit. If I haven t given you a headache then I must have explained it properly, if not, lets all go find some aspirin. ONE MORE SHOT TO FIND THOSE APRONS. We have been talking about those lost aprons. Now we add to that mystery an ice chest. The rally committee wonders if someone has the ice chest in their storage and could those lost aprons be in the chest? You might go through the garage or that storage building to see if you have an extra chest. As we remember it the ice chest wasn t in all that good condition. CHECK THOSE TIRES! Mike and Darrell want to go on record and suggest you give careful consideration as to the age of your tires you may not want to go by the fingernail rule. It is certainly cheaper to buy new tires, even at $ plus, than paying for the repair damage to the coach and tow.

4 Page 4 LUSCIOUS LEMON CREAM, BY Carol A requested recipe that was atop the fruit kabobs is as follows: Luscious Lemon Cream 2 eggs 1 cup sugar Juice of 1 fresh lemon 1 tablespoon cornstarch ½ cup water 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 cup (1/2 pint) Borden Whipping cream, whipped Directions In small bowl, beat eggs, ½ cup sugar and lemon. In medium saucepan, combine remaining ½ cup sugar and cornstarch. Gradually add water; mix well. Over medium heat, cook and stir until thickened and clear; remove from heat. Gradually beat in egg mixture. Over low heat, cook and stir until slightly thickened. Remove from heat; add vanilla. Cool. Fold whipped cream into sauce. Chill. Serve with fresh fruit. Refrigerate leftovers. WIENER SCHNITZEL, by Erika For 4 servings 1 pound of pork loins ½ cup of all purpose flour 2 eggs Salt and pepper to taste 2 cups of bread crumbs ¼ cup of oil for frying Triple R News As noted last month, Erika s recipe is shared in English. Directions Cut the pork loin into steaks about as thick as your finger. Tenderize the steaks. Dip the steak in a flour dish. Beat the eggs with salt and pepper. Coat the pork loin steak in the egg mixture, then with bread crumbs. Heat the ¼ cup of oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat. Fry pork loin until golden brown. About five minutes on each side. OCTOBER ATTENDEES The couples attending the October Rally in Guthrie were: Man power...another way to hook up Bruce s tow vehicle. 5 Volume 9, Issue 76 Page 5 NOVEMBER BIRTHDAYS The following members turned a year younger this year. When you see any of the following at the rally give them a thumbs up. Judy Lewis Elaine Dunn Don Longpre Frank Newby Bonnie Rowland Billie Wright Ed Wright NOVEMBER ANNIVERSARYS The anniversaries being celebrated by our members this month are: Ron and Jill Allen Morris and Ann Cates Bill and Beth Elam Buddy and Gloria Hilton Curtis and Charlotte McMahan J R and Fran Monk ATTACHMENTS I & II Check Attachment I for information about this months special ladies program that will replace the traditional crafts. We suggest to the ladies that they come prepared by bringing a record of medications, doctors, and other information suggested by Judy in her Attachment I. Also, the Attachment II is a report about the Redmond Convention by our National Director, Frank Newby. THE BIGGEST LOOSER s Three names were called to receive the $50.00 cash award given by the chapter at some select rallies. October was one of those months. None of the three names drawn were in attendance so the money stayed in the Treasury. We salute this month s Biggest Losers. Billy and Jeannette Idell Mickey and Venita Holbrook. Larry Cummings/Susan Erwin D A AWARD WINNER by Gary and Snoopy One of our members, has been in the motorhome lifestyle for over 15 years, even full-time for awhile. You would think they would know better than to get up and start moving up and down the aisle when the motorhome is in heavy traffic. Especially, since she is known to be the best right seat driver in the club. On this particular day in the middle of August they were traveling with their daughter and granddaughter to a softball tournament in San Antonio. Concerned about the comfort of her passengers she got up to see if the roof air was working in the kitchen. Of course that would be the exact time the freeway traffic in downtown Fort Worth came to a sudden stop.here comes Grace dancing down the aisle. When she couldn t keep up with her momentum she crashed to the floor and into the wood console in the front of the coach. Banged-up, bruised, and bleeding she still went to the softball games. GRACIE, for your lack of good judgment you are October s D A Award winner. A FAMILY S THANKS The family of Leo Rollins have asked to extend their thanks to all of our chapter members for the expressions of sympathy, and offers of assistance, during what was very difficult times for them. They were especially appreciative of the large number of friends who attended the services in Greenville.

For those of you not there you would have been very proud of our chapter, thanks to the Committee of Jeanette and Billy Idell, Bruce and Sue Bartl, and Erika and Dennis Moore. Jumping in to help were Mike and Donna Bennett, Jim and June Guess and Grace Gilliland. There were 25 chapters that set-up booths and put their best face forward to try to recruit new members. Information provided to me was that a total of eleven new members were recruited by these 25 chapters on the spot. Hopefully, many of those who took chapter applications will later select, join, and become active in a chapter. I believe we are soon to have at least one new member as a result of this committee s contact. This area activity will be repeated again next year in Hutchinson. We need to begin putting our heads together as to a booth that will promote our chapter. 7 ATTACHMENT I LADIES PROGRAM FOR NOVEMBER. By Judy Lewis The purpose of the craft is to have a wallet card that will have vital medical information. I have used this information in many ways. The first and probably most important is if you are in an accident or a medical emergency. A couple of years ago, Grady had a head-on collision and had to be transported to the hospital, there were no serious injuries. However, it seemed that every person on the scene, in the ambulance, in the emergency and on the floor needed information..what medications, medical conditions and allergies he had. He was in a small town outside of Houston; I was not available to help. All he had to do was to hand them the card and not try to remember under such stress. Here is what the card looks like. Judy A. Lewis Medication List MEDS / DOSAGE AM PM The reverse side has other info such as: NO Known Allergies tetnus 9/29/08 Primary Physican-George Hewell Controlled High Blood Pressure. Emergency: Grady Bass-Husband , cell James Lewis-Son Home cell , wk I worked with these formats to get as much information as I could and still have space to laminate the card and cut it to size. I will have the blanks and you will be able to type in your information, print it and laminate your card during the craft. So be sure to bring your information. If you want to prepare in advance, just copy the form, fill it out, print it and bring it to the rally. If you need the form saved in MS Word, just send me an and I will send to you. My is jlewis01a@gmail.com (that is zero one a). Yes, I know we are supposed to put our emergency information in our cell phone under ICE (in case of emergency). I don t know about you, but I have forgotten my phone, had it run out of battery, just not be able to operate it under stress, so a card is helpful. I also have a card that has all of our vehicles, their description and license numbers, the insurance agent, phone, and the MEDEX phone. (yes, I also read that the name of the program is changing in 2011) Maybe Darrell can tell us about the program at the rally. The vehicle card would have definitely come in handy the night in Ft Worth when we came back to our truck after 2 am only to discover it missing. I called 911 to report it stolen and the first question was what is the license number? of course I did not know. I will have my laptop and printer. I will have self-laminating paper. There is no charge.

8 ATTACHMENT II FMCA s 84th INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION By Frank Newby The FMCA International Rally was held in Redmond, Oregon, in August. The fairgrounds in Redmond are a good place to have a rally. All the buildings are situated in a circle about a quarter of a mile across, so that each building is within easy walking distance. The weather was great, cool at night and warm, but not overly hot during the day, and the view of the Three Sisters mountaintops covered in snow was beautiful. Also, the humidity was about 2 percent. The entertainment was certainly interesting. On Monday night, we were treated to an RV themed movie, The Long, Long Trailer, starring Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez, living through many experiences which would have won them the DA award in our chapter. The movie was hosted by the son of Debbie Reynolds, and a dress which was worn by Lucy in the movie was on display from Debbie's large collection of movie paraphernalia. Tuesday night featured Debbie herself as she sang, talked, and showed clips from her movies. She told some slightly risqué jokes and showed some bloopers from her films to a standing room only crowd, who loudly cheered and laughed throughout the performance. Wednesday night's show was the Texas Tenors. When they came on stage, I saw three guys with cowboy boots, jeans, western shirts and cowboy hats on. They said that they were going to sing some country songs, and they were right, except the country was Italy. They sang opera, show tunes, patriotic songs, love songs, country songs, and even got in "The Yellow Rose of Texas". Two of them had excellent voices and the third was really great. The also managed to get a lady up on the stage, and sang a love song to her,,,, really fabulous entertainment. Thursday night was a tribute to Jimmy Buffett. Since that is not my kind of music, I didn't go, but I heard from several people who did that half the audience left before the show was over. Friday night was a tribute to Motown. Again I didn't go, and I heard nothing about this show either way, because people were leaving Saturday. There were about 2200 coaches there, including a lot of dealer coaches. The only ones I toured were the Tiffin coaches and two used Marathons. I really liked the 36 foot Allergo Bus. There were also many other vendors selling everything that you can imagine having to do with motor homes. One interesting booth was giving coupons out for a half price stay at a resort campground in Newport, Oregon. Since we planned to spend some time on the coast anyway, we stayed there. The campsites with a view of a really large stock pond (I think it was named the Pacific) were $90 and the ones down the hill by the highway were $50. We stayed at the cheap ones for half price. This was a very nice campground with pool, spa and all the amenities. The business of the FMCA was conducted in a well organized, fairly quick way. The proposed 2011 budget with a deficit of approximately $90,000 was approved without discussion. An amendment was passed allowing the officers to be elected for a second two-year term. There were several other minor amendments passed, which have little bearing on our chapter. If anyone is interested in any of these, please contact me, and I will give you a detailed description. Everyone seemed to have a really good time, and I enjoyed the whole show. Next year's rally will be held in Madison, Wisconsin, and I urge as many people as possible to go. The winter rally, scheduled for 2012 to be held in Pomona, CA, has been cancelled to save money.
