1 RED RIVER ROVERS May CHAPTER OFFICERS President Jeannette Idell st Vice President Patrick Duvall nd Vice President June Guess rd Vice President Michael Hillhouse Secretary Ann Kriesman Treasurer Curtis Buchhorn National Director Charles Trahan Alternate National Director Connie Tucker Past President Dennis Moore Inside This Issue APRIL RALLY REPORT April rain didn t dampen the spirits of Red River Rover rally attendees at Staway Ranch RV Park. Coaches began arriving on Wednesday as members were eager to greet arriving guests, visit, and catch up with each other's doings since last month s gathering. The Spring weather on Wednesday was perfect for visiting outside the coaches. The rally started officially Thursday with happy hour and we were thankful a thunderstorm didn't start until we were all inside the clubroom where our own happy noises seemed to lessen the noise from outside. Thursday evening the hosts served a delicious meal of homemade vegetable soup, cornbread, crackers, cheese fingers, peach cobbler, tea, coffee and lemonade. Our April host team was June Guess, Dee Holloway, Norma Hamel, Peggy Weygant and Tom and Judy Burroughs. The chapter was delighted to have five couples visit our rally and even more thrilled when before the rally ended, four of the couples decided they like us as much as we like them and are now the newest members of the Red River Rovers. New members are listed in alphabetical order along with their chapter mentors in parenthesis: James and Mary Ellen Adams (Curtis & Marva Buchhorn); Wendell & Connie Carrington (Charlie and Jeanette Trahan); Mike & Kerry Dreher (Keith & Jayne Grasso); Gordon & Peggy Moore (Mike & Donna Bennett). The fifth visiting couple, Dave & Irene Renfro (Bill & Hilda McGuire), are long-time friends of the RRR and very active in South Central Area leadership. When we were a relatively young chapter eager to embark on our first Six- State volunteer experience, Irene was kind enough to take us under her wing and "train" us in volun- Continued pg Rally Schedule 6 HOST COMMITTEE Anniversaries/Birthdays 3 April Rally Attendees 4 April Rally Report 1, 2 April Tech Session 3 DA Award 3 May Craft Session 5 Recipes 4 Spotlight on Committes 5 Tech Lesson - Adobe 5 Presidents Message 6 Whoszat!! 3 L to R: Peggyy Weygandt, Dee Holloway, Tom Burroughs, June Guess, and Norma Hamel. Bill McGuire, Defibrillator Committee chairman, gave a defibrillator refresher class at 4:00 p.m. and explained the following new procedure for obtaining the defibrillator. The defibrillator will be transported to each rally by that rally's host team. Once at the rally the designated "on-call" member of the Defibrillator Committee will obtain the defibrillator and keep it in his/her coach until the end of the rally when it will be returned to the current host team to be passed to the next month's hosts. The "on-call" committee member's phone number will be posted at the bottom of the Rally Agenda sheet. If the defibrillator is needed call 911 then call the cell number listed, give the location where it is needed and the defibrillator will be delivered and administered by the person "on call". This means that we all need to be aware of our parking site number at each rally we attend. Friday evening's meal was Chicken Tetrazzini, fresh spring garden salad, seasoned green beans, bread sticks, tea, coffee, lemonade, sugar cookies and fudge pie. After dinner the hosts provided each attendee a picture puzzle of Texas cities. There was much teaming up and laughter to figure out the answers. Wendell and Connie Carrington introduced the domino game of "Moon" to the variety of games that followed dinner. Saturday morning the host team was up early preparing our breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage patties, biscuits, gravy, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. A very upset pink bunny (Peggy Weygant) appeared during breakfast, asking Triple R News everyone if they had it, or knew where to find it. Seems she was looking for her bunny tail! After breakfast the hosts passed out a list of items for a scavenger hunt which included a cotton ball (the lost bunny tail). Some formed into groups to collect the items, while others collected as couples. Although the winning group consisted of Jeanette Trahan, Ann Kriesman, Donna Bennett, Jayne Grasso, Cookie Peadon, Curtis Buchhorn and LuAnn Marchisin the likely most resourceful couple of the hunt was Gordon and Peggy Moore who enlisted the help of some of the permanent residents and employees of the R.V. park! Winners were presented with gift bags of candy. Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Bob Kriesman led the tech session on batteries, inverters and converters and at 2:00 p.m. the ladies met for a craft session where they made playing card holders from plastic canvas and yarn. The craft session was led by Donna Bennett and Jeanette Trahan with Connie Tucker assisting. Other rally attendees went sightseeing or attended the nearby town of Edom Street Fair and local plant nursery. Saturday evening's meal was Javenese Chicken, green salad, tea, coffee, lemonade and deluxe banana pudding. After dinner the hosts organized a game of Pin the Tail on the Bunny. The group was divided into three teams and each team chose five people to represent them. It was a fun and rowdy game as teams yelled out directives for their respective contestants as they tried to place the cotton ball on the proper spot on the bunny posters while wearing bunny mask blindfolds. The winning team consisted of Charlie Trahan, Hilda McGuire, Connie and Wendell Carrington and Connie Tucker. Each winning member received a bag of candy. During this game there was a small incident where the Deputy Sheriff (Luann Marchisin) was called in to handle an accusation of cheating. The suspect was arrested and placed with the host committee. The name has not been released in order to protect the innocent. Winners were given gift bags of candy. After things quieted down the regular card games began. "Joker", sometimes called "Murder", is a board game added to the growing list of games played after dinner. A storm blew in late Saturday night and several chapter members took refuge in the cafe that management opened up for that purpose. After experiencing the winds and heavy rain of the leading edge of the storm those in the cafe were relieved to see radar on Gordon Moore's laptop that showed the dangerous storm make a loop that left our location with only rain. Sunday morning s breakfast was homemade coffee cake, fruit cups, sausage, biscuits, gravy, juice and coffee. We had a real treat after breakfast as one of our new members, Wendell Carrington, played his rendition of "Onward Christian Soldiers" on his banjo then took us on a quick trip from Genesis to Revelation as he gave a brief inspirational message of Redemption. A food auction followed and the rally ended and all went to their next destination. MAY TECH SESSION The May tech session will be announced at the rally. Ron has a number of ideas that will take a little more time to develop.

3 Page 3 Triple R News MAY WHOSZAT!!! APRIL TECH SESSION DA AWARD by Gary The Tech Seminar held in April proved to be very helpful to many who attended. The subjects covered, ranged from what to do when charging batteries, what to watch for during this process and most importantly what not to do. There was a discussion on old wiring design versus new design and how to charge accordingly. Also discussed was how the coach charging devices like alternators and converters worked together to keep all the batteries fully charged. Another item was what is a converter and what is an inverter, how they worked and how to know when they have reached capacity. This led to a discussion on what are volts and amps. An example of comparing volts to water pressure was given. A group discussion then developed as to who had what types of these units in their respective coaches. I m sure most of you have seen the movie R V, well here we go again with another sewer hose story. Now this is a true story told to me by the person directly involved in said story. Most of you have had experience with sewer receptacles that are open and being broken, chipped or out-of-round. Well that should send warning bells that something could be wrong with it. So our HERO has a hose without a connection on the end so he just stuffs it in the hole. Now WHAT POSSIBLY COULD GO WRONG?? When you open the black water valve of a tank that is almost full there is a lot of pressure released at once. Now picture Robin Williams fighting that sewer hose spewing forth (you know what). Well our HERO has pulled the black water valve and low and behold the ground sewer hole is stopped up. SOOO there is a sudden fountain of YOU KNOW WHAT shooting up in the air going everywhere and Bill McGuire is retreating as fast as he can duck walk so he can shut it off. Bill, you knew you had this coming.so come up and get your trophy. 1 The above young man is our featured member of the month. If you think you know who he might be, darrellgilliland0@gmail.com. Joyce Daughterty will lead the session. SPOTLIGHT ON COMMITTEES Defibrillator - Bill McGuire and Snoopy Campbell. Responsible for making regular inspections of defibrillator battery order and replace battery when needed and hold one chapter training course per year on the use of the defibrillator. One member of the committee is to be on call at each rally. Rally host is to be provided the name and cell phone number of the on call person for each rally for publication on the Rally Agenda page. If a chapter member places a call for the defibrillator, the on call person is to deliver and to administer the defibrillator. Sunshine - Susan Campbell and Judy Lewis. Susan sends appropriate cards/memorial gifts to members for illness or death of a member or family member. She reports illness/loss to the Webmaster for distribution to the membership. Judy is responsible for announcing birthdays and anniversaries at the rallies. This is a committee that works year round for our members. A TECH LESSION ADOBE A few of our members have been experiencing problems with the forms we put on our website. These forms are in a file format know as PDF. The Portable Document Format was created in the early days of personal computing as a means of insuring that a document could be ed or otherwise sent electronically from one computer to another without losing the format or look of the document, regardless of what brand computer or operating system the computer used. Adobe, the company that owns the PDF copyright, gives away as a free download, a small program or app, called Adobe Acrobat Reader or just Reader, that allows a computer device to read this file format. Reader has gone through many versions and upgrades over the years and the most recent one, called Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (Data Cloud), may be the one that fixes all of the problems some of our members have experienced. I have so far found it to be able to handle all of our club s forms on all of my devices and have talked to people with other types of devices, and all reports have been favorable. If you have been having trouble with our club Forms, make sure that your device has been updated to the new version. The default setting for Android phones, tablets, iphones and ipads is to allow this app to be updated automatically, so you should already have the new version on these devices. Windows and ios computers, laptops and desktops, should eventually update automatically as well, though it may take a little more time. You can find a menu option called check for updates in the help menu of the Windows and Apple versions of the Reader program. If you are still having trouble with the club forms, call me on my home phone and I will try to help you correct the trouble..
