2 CURRICULUM NIGHT This year's curriculum night will be held on Monday, September 11th, from 6:00pm - 8:30pm. This evening is a structured event where parents will follow their child's schedule, so it is important that parents are on time and do not treat it as a drop in event. Please contact Ms. Schroeder or your child's grade level administrator with any questions that you have SPORTS SEASONS TRY OUTS Attention Parents and Students! As we prepare for the Sport Seasons there are a few important details we would like to share with you. In order to try out for ANY team, the student must have a Current physical: (SIGNED BY THE PHYSICIAN, DATED, AND MARKED CLEAR FOR ATHLETICS), Concussion form and completed BLUE PROOF OF INSURANCE form on file at the school, and anyone trying out for football must have the Green Insurance form. These forms are available on the school website under the "Athletics" tab. Then tryouts and then scroll down to forms on the right hand side. It is the athlete s responsibility to bring his/her physical complete with doctor s signature, marked cleared, with a valid date on the first day of try-outs. Physicals are good for one calendar year (365 days) from the date of physical. If you tried out for a team last year, it is possible that the physical is still valid, however it is your responsibility to know the date (or approximate date) of expiration. The school is in no way responsible for physicals that have expired. (Sports: Continued next page) 2

KEY REMINDERS All physicals, concussion, AND insurance forms MUST be turned in on the first day of try-outs; without all completed forms, students will be asked to leave and return only when completed. A physical is only good for one calendar year. The physical must be signed and dated by the physician, and marked cleared for athletics. Parents MUST fill out family history on the physical forms. Transportation must be arranged beforehand, please ensure all students are picked up no later than 6:30pm. Calls home on the day of tryouts will not be permitted. Golf Transportation will be left to the families, however carpooling will be arranged between the families once the team is finalized Try-out attire: PE clothes and a shirt that can be written on in permanent marker. 8 Hearing Screenings Upon Request Parents, teachers, and students should know that hearing screenings will be conducted upon request if there are concerns about a student's hearing. Parents, teachers, and students may self-refer for hearing screening. This is an attempt to identify students new to CMS with hearing loss, and those students with recently acquired hearing loss. If these students fail three consecutive hearing screenings, a Consent for Hearing Evaluation permission form will be sent to the parent to proceed with a hearing evaluation at school. Parents of students being monitored for history of hearing loss should be aware that they will also receive this consent form. Without signed permission, students will not receive a hearing evaluation by the school s Audiologist. 10 Character Corner September s Trait of the Month is RESPECT For , Wildcat Weekly will highlight a character trait each month. Parents, please discuss these traits with kids. Setting time aside for one weekly dinner conversation centered around the month s character trait will not only emphasize the importance of having good character, but it will also be beneficial to connect with your kids. Encourage them to open up, by sharing some of your own experiences with that character trait. For September, our character trait is RESPECT. Examples of showing respect: Speaking respectfully to family members. Tone is very important. Using manners with your family, teachers and people you meet in public ( please, excuse me, thank you ) Taking care of your responsibilities and belongings. Giving others praise and encouragement. The golden rule: Treat others the way you want them to treat you. So, if you want respect in life, you must show respect in life. Thank you! For comments, stories or ideas on a character trait, please AnnieGudzunas@Yahoo.com Crestdale PTO, Wildcat Weekly Editor In compliance with federal law, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools administers all education programs, employment activities and admissions without discrimination against any person on the basis of gender, race, color, religion, national origin, age or disability.
