Noah is the son of Kristy and Jason Arnold. He plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology and will be majoring in Biology. Emily is the daughter of Christine and Pete Tracy. She plans to attend the University of Georgia and will be majoring in English and Creative Writing. 3 Congratulations T he Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest is a statewide writing and character education program for students in grades Students are asked to select a maxim or Law of Life (such as Honesty is the best policy or Kindness is the highest form of wisdom ) and to write an essay explaining how the maxim applies to the students lives. Sponsored by our local Bartow County Rotary Club, the essay contest gives students an opportunity to reflect on important life lessons while working on critical writing skills. The contest also allows schools to easily implement the personal narrative essay as well as our character education platform. Winning essayists attended a luncheon with local Bartow Rotarians at the Cartersville Country Club on April 26 th. Students and sponsors enjoyed fellowship and a delicious luncheon with the Rotarians in attendance. After lunch students were able to share their essays with club members. The following students were named as our Georgia Rotary Clubs Laws of Life Essay Contest winners. Student Grade Level Winners received a cash award, and the overall School Winner received a cash award. Students selected as Honorable Mentions received a Georgia Rotary Laws of Life Certificate. This year the entries were outstanding and as a result were awarded eleven Honorable Mention Certificates as part of our Character Education Initiative Program. 9 th Grade Winner Olivia Flynn Honorable Mention Jaden Musacchio 10 th Grade Winner Belle Getz Honorable Mentions Angel Huskins, Neleh McGivern, and Kaylee Cornwell 11 th Grade Winner Cassy Simmons Honorable Mention Joshua Peace 12 th Grade Winner and School Winner Noah Arnold Honorable Mentions Dulce Angeles, Deanna Davidson, Morgan Day, McKenzie Howell, Spencer Messer & Tre Niquah Zeigler This year over 46,000 high school students wrote a Laws of Life essay. From the top 60-high school winning submissions, Cass High Senior Noah Arnold was selected as the State Winner. Noah received a prize of one thousand dollars on behalf of the Georgia Rotary Clubs. His senior English teacher Mrs. Micaela Armona also received a monetary prize, and Laws of Life Contest Chair Mrs. Amanda Ward-Wilbon was named as a Georgia Laws of Life Teacher of Distinction. Special thanks to Mrs. Kayla White, who received a Teacher Grant from the Bartow Education Foundation to provide a Character Counts T-Shirt and cake for our Laws of Life Essayists.

6 Mr. & Miss CHS O n April 14th, the students enjoyed a magical Evening Under the Stars at the Clarence Brown Center. Before the students danced the night away, the seniors participated in the traditional senior walk and the much anticipated announcement of Mr. & Miss CHS was made. This year Noah Arnold and Matt Busse were selected as Mr. CHS, and Linsey Radford was selected as Miss CHS. These students were selected based on their involvement in high school activities. 8 Sports News S enior Tavarus Varnum, track and field athlete, at Cass High was awarded the Shottenkirk Honda Athlete of the Week on May 7th Tavarus was a four year track and field athlete excelling in the high jump. At the sectional meet, Tavarus jumped a personal best of 6 foot 8 inches and qualified for the GHSA 5-A State Track Meet held at Carrollton High School.

9 Sports News C ass High School s track and field qualified four senior athletes for the 2018 GHSA 5-A State Track & Field Championship held at Carrollton High School during May 10th -12th, The athletes performed excellent in the championship meet. Kyler Trouten competed in the girls high jump and placed 9th overall. Chanelle Clemmons competed in the girls shot put and placed 7th overall. Tavarus Varnum competed in the boys high jump and finished 3rd overall. Stephen Smith competed in the boys pole vault and was crowned the 2018 GHSA 5-A State Champion in this event. Track Coaches are Danny Fairbanks, DL Koontz, and David Rawlins. Congratulations to the Cass High School s track and field athletes and coaches.

10 Around Campus T he students from Mr. Bohannon s science classes have been busy building five butterfly gardens. Various organizations on campus have helped with the project including JROTC and the National Honor Society. The butterfly gardens are made possible by the Rolling Hills grant. In addition, the Yellowstone Mine donated the sand and Lowes reduced the price on the railroad ties. The butterfly gardens will help to beautify the areas around campus and will also help to prevent erosion. Seniors Class of 2019 TCPICS is gearing up for a summer of Senior Portraits at their studio!! 11 Around Campus 2018 CHS Future Colonel Cheer Camp The Cass High School Cheerleaders will be hosting a cheerleading clinic for all girls (Kindergarten 6 th grade) interested in cheerleading activities. Instruction will be offered for cheers, chants, stunts, and spirit dances. The purpose of the clinic is to offer instruction for individuals who enjoy cheerleading activities. The camp will be held July 10 th 12 th from 9:00am 12:00pm in the Cass High School auxiliary gym. The registration fee for the camp will be $55.00(early registration deadline is May 31 st ) and $65.00 (if received after May 31 st ) and includes snack each day and a Junior Colonel Cheerleader T-shirt. Each day of camp will have a theme that each cheerleader is encouraged (but not required) to dress for. 12 A True Colonel M ichael Nelson is not just the Principal of Cass High School, he is the perfect example of a true Colonel!!! As an alumni, teacher, coach, Assistant Principal, and lastly the Principal, he has always demonstrated what it means to Love Blue, Live Gold.
