From the Director David H. Hello Chapter Members, It has been several months since our last newsletter so, let s get caught up to date. I would like to give a big Thank You to everyone that attends our chapter meetings. It is a time for us to conversate and catch up on activities, see friends, socialize and have many laughs. Let s not forget the prizes and the money to be won on the 50/50 drawing. As your Director, it makes me feel good to see such comradery around the room. We always have an awesome time and I especially enjoy riding with all of you after the meetings. The Progressive Ride was an enormous success and I want to Thank all you members who made it so much fun and exciting. A special Thank You goes out to our hosts of the ride-nancy & Brandon Mc who did the appetizers with some good nibbles to get us started, Ana M who did the main course-the smoked turkey and pork was delicious and Keith & Patty H for the variety of dessert temptations. What other way to end a great day but to play Harley East West Hold em. I was writing this while on the Paso Robles LDR and it made me think how passionate Sherri and I are for this chapter and its members and we get to ride with you all. Sherri and I had a wonderful time with everyone and lots of fun with the wine tasting contest and playing Harley East West Hold em. Rich S was our big winner. Again, I will sound like a broken record but if you have never been on one of our LDR s you need to consider going on one. Best time ever! This article was in print by the time our picnic was to take place so, I just want to say I know and look forward to it being a huge success and Thank You to Sherri our activities coordinator and to Debbie S our volunteer coordinator. My last Thank You at this time is to our Chapter Head Road Captain-Steve S and to all our Road Captains-John B, Pat C, Denny C, John E, Tom F, Dave H, Jim L, Brandon Mc, Ken M, Micah O, Dave R, Jerry R, Harold S and Gary W. Also, our ARC s-luis A, Steve C and Robert M. They volunteer their time which is surmountable to plan the ride, pre-rides, pick the destination, eateries, sites and most important they ensure our SAFETY. Temecula Valley Harley Davidson Chapter #3817 has the respect of others for the way our Road Captains run their program. For that, again, I say THANK YOU. In closing, I am looking forward to the LOH Mission Inn gathering, our Christmas party, and many rides to come. See You On The Road
From the Assistant Director Tom F. The weather is wonderful now, not so hot, so it makes getting on the bike's seat a little easier. The trip down a back road is fun with some twist and turns to make it more interesting. I enjoy all the rides and we end up in some great place to have a good time with people I enjoy. I want to thank everyone who attend the Activity meetings and share a great place to explore. I have learned about a lot about this part of Southern California and visited some places I would not have normally seen, and talked to the young men and women serving our country. It's becoming the time of the year to enjoy the holidays and remember what's good about the people who live around us, and the people we ride with. Each person is unique and has a great story to tell, a great experience to share or a lesson to learn. Mona and I went on a road trip this summer a trip to return to our past revisiting where we began back to Oklahoma and Louisiana. We talked about how green it was, the rain storms that wet us, the manners and culture of the area and visiting family, but there is a group of people that keeps us here, the HOG friends that we have done so much with over the years. Everyone enjoy the holidays coming up, enjoy the people you run around with they are one of a kind! Each one of you be careful out there
From the Treasurer David R. Can t believe we are in the last three months of 2017 already!! What a great year of riding, events and adventures we have had and looking forward to October, November and December upcoming events. I just want to say thanks to everyone for your support in making this happen. We are in great shape with our finances which will carry us into the last quarter of 2017 with all our year-end planned events. Enjoy the adventures and ride safe!

From the Head Road Captain Steve S. Keeping the Shinny Side Up! According to legend, the open road isn t really as open as you d like it to be. Rather, it is inhabited by countless road gremlins, dispatched by evil spirits to wreak havoc on you and your motorcycle. Some say these gremlins are the source of all the mishaps and mayhem that sometimes make your ride less than perfect. Fortunately, there s a defense against these invisible little evil-doers. It s called a ride bell, a powerful weapon in the battle against bad luck. If you don t already have one yourself, chances are you ve seen one on somebody else s bike. Or maybe you haven t, as they re attached to the bike somewhere inconspicuous. No one is exactly quite sure how they work different theories abound. One is that the gremlins are attracted to the pleasant sound, but then become trapped in side the bell, where the constant ringing drives them crazy. Eventually, they drop to the ground and, according to some, that s where potholes come from. However they work, everyone seems to agree on one important thing about ride bells: Sure, you can buy one for yourself, but their power is doubled when you receive one as a gift. Will having a ride bell prevent you from ever experiencing bad luck on the road? We can t guarantee that. We can, however, say for certain that your troubles will not be caused by invisible evil spirits. Whether you believe the legend or not, a ride bell makes a great gift. No matter if you re the giver or the recipient, it s a powerful token of friendship, respect, and affection.

From Historian Brenda G. Hello TV HOG Chapter #3817 I just want to say thank you again for all the great pictures that you send to be posted in our historian book. Keep those pictures coming. The book is displayed at every chapter meeting and I will also bring the book to our annual Christmas party for all to see and enjoy. The book is an acknowledgment to all the memories we make as a chapter. It displays our events, meetings, rides, parties and just overall good times. Thank you for making it fun for me to scan all these wonderful people and times. From the Secretary Brenda G. Hello TV HOG Members, We are having such a momentous year and all is going well with our Board and Chapter. As always, if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions for he chapter, me at secretary@temeculavalleyhog.com and I will ensure that it is reviewed and you receive a response. The mileage tracker is now on the web and for your review. One change to the mileage awards: the way we have been doing the mileage awards is every 3 months and then you get your award the following month. We are getting close to the end of the year and want to ensure that you get as much mileage in as possible. So, this time I will be doing awards in November for the months of July, August, September and October. You will continue to earn credit for your miles in November and December and be awarded in January If you are not seeing your name on the mileage tracker on the web please do not worry. I can guarantee you I have it on my main tracker list. The web only updates every 3 months and that could be the reason you would not see your name if you are a new member. Again, thank you for everything all you do.
From the Safety Officer Micah O. Beware of Tar Snakes! Its not some rare breed of the reptile - its those patches of tar used to patch and fill cracks in road asphalt. Not only are they unsightly, but could be dangerous! Tar Snakes cause for a loss of traction which impacts balance of the motorcycle. Not only will you experience lower traction, in hot weather, tar in the sealant can start to melt and soften up. This makes these tar snakes really slippery. When wet, they can be as slippery. Tar snakes come in all shapes and sizes and can run perpendicularly to your direction or parallel. When parallel, it can create a major loss of traction. Steps to stay safe: Watch the road keenly looking ahead for potential tar snakes. Reduce speed before you approach a tar snake. Try to take a tar snake on perpendicularly so the loss of traction will be minimal. If your bike wobbles or becomes unstable, try not to have a death grip on the handlebars in an effort to fight back. Your tires are better at gaining traction than you are! Should you encounter one of these pesky things, trying some simple steps may help you prevent being snake bitten! Ride safe, y'alls!
From the LOH Officer - Jacque G. Ladies of Harley LOH held their July meeting Hawaiian style! From pig to pineapple the food was not scarce. The ladies wore fun luau attire and were able to learn a little Hula while enjoying the company of fellow HOG members. The ladies rode with their HOG chapter on the first night ride for the year. This ride took us through the beautiful San Jacinto Mountains to Idyllwild for an awesome Italian dinner. August Meeting was hosted by Sherri and Debbie S and held at Lienzo Charro's Mexican Restaurant with fun, games and discussion on future events. After the meeting most of ladies took a walk over to Temecula Harley-Davidson to enjoy bike night. What a great way to finish off the evening! September we are rolling into Fall with Val R hosting our meeting. Thank you to all those who donate to the LOH piggy that is passed around at our meetings. This will truly make a difference to children at Christmas time.
