1 Chairmans Report Welcome to the Purple Post In this edition there will be the provisional calendar for 2014 including HDRC competitions as well as BRC qualifiers and championships. The shortest day of the year has now past us and so the days will slowly start getting lighter now which can only be a good thing. At the AGM we launched our new website which we ve had some very good feedback on and has enabled those using it to access the information much more easily. We are very keen to make it your website so if you have any suggestions for information you would like to see on there then please contact us and we will endeavour to sort it out. I would also like to welcome the new members to the club committee Katie Larman, Louise Yendell and Sandra Aschettino. They as all of us have volunteered to give up their time to help run the club. So I would like to personally thank them for agreeing to do this. In addition to them I would like to thank Anna Cook who has agreed to sort out TREC teams for us and Alice Ward who has agreed to Chef the Team Quest BD competition for the club its great to be getting new members coming forwards and offering to help. This year as mentioned previously is the clubs Golden Anniversary and there are a number of events planned to celebrate this including the 50 th Anniversary Ball which has now been confirmed for 7 th June at The Dolphin Hotel in St Ives. In addition we are running the open show again this year this time slightly later and at a new venue. We are also reintroducing the TREC this year at Alconbury on 18 th May is going to be a busy year for the club. Finally I would just like to say a massive congratulations to all members who competed in the Grassroots League this year as HDRC won the teams league! Special congratulations to Sarah Marshall, Alison Smith, Helen Gipson & Karen Neal all of whom placed in the top ten in the individual league.. David Clarke, Chairman New Club Logo for 2014 Huntingdon RC - Purple Post Winter 2013 Celia Whicher, the British Riding Clubs Area 7 Chair was asked by the Club to judge the entries we have had for a new logo as the Club moves forward into the next 50 years. Celia was sent all of the entries by number in a blind contest and has a very difficult job in Judging the entries on behalf of the Club. Celia has now deliberated and come to her final decision. For 2 weeks it has been between 2 particular logos for the Individual Club Logo, and Celia has selected her winner for a strong pool of entries. Celia says It will never date as the Riding Club moves forward into its next 50 years. I love the one I have chosen and I believe it will print & embroider well. This competition was seriously difficult to Judge. You have a talented Club and please congratulate all of your entrants on my behalf. Thank you for asking me to Judge this competition it was definitely a privilege. So the final winner for the Club Logo is Ann Brennan! Well done Ann and many thanks for your entry. Thanks to all the members who posted entries, it was great to see all the entries and we really had a good pool to select from some of our hidden artists! 3 Senior Camp Early/Mid July 2014 Date TBC Plans are being made to hold a Senior Camp at Grange Farm Wittering from a Thursday to Sunday inclusive. There will be places/stabling for minimum 12, maximum 16 full time members in mobile stables. There is NO turnout available. There will be instruction morning and afternoon with either 3 or 4 groups. There are arenas for both flat work and show jumping, a X-country course and at extra cost JumpX training. Accommodation will be lorries, trailers, caravans or tents and there will be full meal provision or you can self cater. At this stage we do not know if there will be bedding available for your horse. Added to this it may be possible to provide some training at the weekend for those who do not wish to stay. If your horse stays at camp, you must also stay! Just keep it in mind and hopefully we will be able to give full details shortly. For those "old" campers you all know what fun it is and how much you/your horse progress. For "new" members it is great fun and there is much laughing and joking. Pimms is the camp drink if you are so inclined! We usually have a barbeque which is open to "noncampers". All the above depends on us being able to liaise with one of the Pony Club Camps going to Wittering for use of the stables they book. The cost is otherwise prohibitive. We are trying to keep the costs as low as possible. Watch this space!!! 50 th Anniversary Ball Saturday 7 th June At the Dolphin Hotel in St Ives, come and celebrate our golden anniversary. 4 course meal and a disco till the small hours. 4 Purple Post Endurance Endurance Talk By Susan Durman For those of you who are interested in doing Endurance in 2014, please come along for an informal chat to learn about the Team Competition, Qualifiers, how to declare and enter, as well as some general information and guidance on endurance. Riders need to be over 14 years of age and your horse must be at least 5 years old. Area 7 is going to be a very hot league this year with new teams from a number of clubs. For those that are older hands - welcome back this season! As a reminder, please can you ensure I have a copy of your Flu Vac/Passports and any updates to your injections. I have now taken ownership of the Area Flu Vac Db, so that will cut down on any delays processing the updates with the Area, and I will also ensure that each Area event has the up to date copy ahead of the event. This will allow the official steward to pre-check entries, and that way reduce the amount of time it takes to check Flu Vacs on the day. You will all still need to present your flu vac, but pre checking will allow those o0n the Db to have their name, number and last injection date checked rather than the whole flu vac. My address for copies is 113 The Row, Sutton, Ely, Cambs CB6 2PB. I will send out an updated list once I have formatted the data from the central Area Db and added in the updates that I have here from HDRC members. So I think I may have now given you all enough info for now! Please do let your friends and family know about the Quiz Night and let me know so we can ensure we have your Fish n Chip Supper available on the night! 5 Purple Post Dressage Dressage By Samantha Impey Just a quick note to let you know about some events we have coming up in the Club and all dates on the Area Dressage Events for next year. Sorry - it is a bit long, but just for a change I have a lot to say :-) In respect of Dressage events, the next set of events we have are: The GIG Session - Direct Entry to Longdrove EC (P7 will be available shortly) the judges are always very supportive of these events, and will give you some meaningful comments that we can all understand. You can take these away to help your schooling at home, or to your Instructor to work on for the next time around (as I am sure you will both enjoy yourselves and want to have another go!). GIG Stewards will be made up of Club members who compete in team events, willing volunteers and experienced dressage riders, all of whom will be happy to help you with any questions on the day and provide advice. I will be available at the event for any Club or rule questions, or just to put a face to a name. The rules are designed to be simple, and are available on the HDRC Website. Please do all feel free to contact me for more information on any of the GIG Sessions. Entry is direct with Long Drove Equestrian Centre ( You do not need to dress in Show Gear you must be clean and presented smartly (a clean Casual Outdoor Riding Jacket or Rugby Shirt (or Polo Shirt, although I suspect it may be a little too cold for that in January!). There are some very smart ones available on the H&DRC website too. You must wear a riding hat of the correct standard, suitable riding boots, and jodhpurs/breeches. You do not need to plait, but your horse or pony must be clean and tidy. The restriction is that you must not currently regularly compete above Prelim You may have a Caller for your tests. Don t be shy if you have a question, please ask. You will be surprised how many others have the same questions. Treat everyone who is competing and supporting you with a winning smile! HAVE FUN! 2014/14 AREA QUALIFIERS Our first Qualifying event will be 1st March 2014 at Keysoe EC for the Winter Teams of 4 Indoor Qualifier. I am awaiting BRC releasing next years tests, but there will be 2 riders riding Prelim and 2 riding Novice for each team. There are no individual entries for this event (and yes we have asked several times for Individual classes but BRC will not hold them). I will of course send out details nearer to the time on the event, once I have a schedule etc, however you might want to add the date into your diary as a placeholder. This event will also host the RWHS Dressage Qualifier. The RWHS Championship is 14th/18th May. Again more details to follow soon. It is also worth bearing in mind that the Winter Championships will be on 29th/30th March at Hartpury, so you will need to bear in mind that should you qualify you will need to be available for the Championships. The Combined Training Qualifier will be on 6th April at Wittering Grange, in combination with Area 16, as we had last year. The Chef for this event will be Kerrie Aschettino (Thanks Kerrie), so please do make sure Kerrie has your details if you are interested in competing in this event. Again we are waiting for the Dressage tests etc, and as soon as they are available, we will send the information on. The date for the Summer Dressage Qualifiers is yet to be confirmed, but they will be held at Wittering Grange. They are also likely to hold the Dressage to Music Qualifiers at the same time/event. As soon as more details are available, they will be sent on.

6 With regards to the Dressage to Music classes, BRC have made some rule changes which will come into affect for next year. The key changes are: PAIRS - Can be a mix of Juniors and Seniors as well as 2 Juniors/2 Seniors ARENA SIZES - ALL DTM Tests are in a 20x60 Arena. The Winter Qualifier has been for Teams of 4, with 2 riders riding a Prelim Test and 2 riders riding a Novice Test. There are no Individual entries for the Qualifier, however there will be open classes on the day. I am also awaiting confirmation of the RWHS Qualifier, which has recently been held with the Winter Dressage Qualifier - I will confirm as soon as I know. I will be in touch soon

7 Introducing the Give It a Go Series (GIGS), where Members of Cambridge & District, Huntingdon & District riding clubs and non-members can come together for some informal clinics and competitions in a relaxed and supportive environment. Throughout the whole series, there is no formal dress required, no plaiting required just you and your horse/pony and willingness to Give It a Go! All GIGS events will be held at Potter s Lot Field, Colne Road between Earith and Colne between 5pm and 8pm, entries for clinics and dressage will be in advance via & BACS payments.
