First come, first served so get you responses in asap as we will have limited numbers again. Each parent will be expected to help out on at least one session over the camp period. First aid training and DBS checks What do we need We need you!! Are you a first aider? Would you like to be one? We need a first aider to attend every rally that we arrange. The training is only for a day and if we can get a few of us together this could be fun. The more parents we have the easier it makes this to organise. If you are interested please contact Rachel Kloosterboer kloostys@live.co.uk Mini We have enjoyed lots of mini rallies over the last year, and more recently a very festive, very cold rally at Christmas. These are great little rallies to help keep the mini s and their ponies going throughout the winter months and we see new faces all the time which is GREAT! We do games, jumping, eat lots of sweets, perfect for lead rein and just off lead rein. Dates Look out for new dates starting for the end of January on alternate Thursdays and Saturdays on the rally booking page on the Pony Club Website Rally Organiser Sophie Dale Sophiedale@live.co.uk Brocklesby Country Fair Save the date Sunday 17th June 2018 We shall be performing a short display in the Main Ring at the Country Fair again this summer which is always a good recruiting ground for new members, and an opportunity for us to show our appreciation of its association with the Estate. Please keep an eye on the website for more details of how to become involved in this display. It is also hoped that we shall be running a jumping relay competition in a new area much closer to the Main Ring which should enable riders to enjoy the Fair a bit more too! Further details will follow shortly but do spread the word!
3 Triathlon and Tetrathlon The Brocklesby Hunt Pony Club have several children who are very keen in this discipline. Pony Club triathlon and tetrathlon are one of the harder disciplines within the Pony Club as they involve other sports learned outside of Pony Club. They are exciting, challenging and children make many friends from different Pony Clubs across the country and remain friends for life. The sport of tetrathlon is similar to pentathlon except that our children ride their own ponies/horses across cross country and not strange horses in showjumping. The children shoot pistols, ride cross country, swim and ride across country. In triathlon they run, shoot and swim. The younger members throw bean bags at a board until they reach the age of 8 when they do pistol shooting. Competitors start from the ages of 5 or 6 and can enjoy competitions across the whole country and even Internationally when they get older. The Brocklesby Hunt Pony Club has seen many excellent competitors through its years with Alex Bowman winning an International competition in Australia, Henry James being a formidable athlete and latterly Daisy Williams, Laura & Charlie Jeanes being placed 1st and 2nd at many competitions. Shoot practices take place at Little Limber Grange when there is the demand and time allows. Riding practice will take place in the summer and hopefully can be done at some Saturday rallies. Grassroot Tetrathlon was introduced 3 years back and is run on a similar format. Competitions are held all year round all over the country and events are very exciting and incredibly friendly. A rule book is brought out every year which explains all about tetrathlon and triathlon and is essential reading. It can be downloaded from tetrathlon_rules/ or can be purchased at 3 A Facebook group dedicated to all things Pony Club tetrathlon was started by Jill Williams at PCTetrathlon/ and a teamup calendar has details of many Tris and Tets across the country at Dates Look out for new dates starting for the end of January Team Jill Williams jill@broadlands-cattery.co.uk Costs Tris generally cost about 15 and Tets are held over 2 days and cost around 35. Hunting Prior to the start of the hunting season the children's meet took place on Saturday 28th October, as always at Little Limber Grange. Over 80 people were mounted, many of whom were children and lots our very own members. Hounds met in the water tower paddock before moving off to the first draw in Cottagers Dale. Some senior members were lucky enough to go out on point which was very exhilarating and exciting for them and they reported having jumped a large number of hunt jumps and seeing plenty of hound work too. Junior members enjoyed riding in the field and following the excellent Field Master Mr Ross Fenwick, who did a super job of keeping them interested and even gave out chocolates and sweets along the way! Milo Read had the privilege of field mastering for more than an hour at the end which was a great thrill. A good lead rein contingent brought up the rear and also had a good time. The day was finished off with a hearty tea in the loft. Since then, lots of our members attend Hunts every Saturday and are seen to be representing their club very well. An opportunity to complete the 'Hunting Certificate' is being organised, further information to follow. We are always welcoming new committee members, if you are interested please contact Sally Read who will advise you of the dates.
4 Rallies So how do these work? Each discipline has its own rally organiser. They arrange the venue and the instructor for the required discipline. All instructors must to be up to date with all the Pony Club requirements ie, safeguarding, first aid etc. Without these we are unable to use any instructor who is not up to date on the Unity system. Each rally must have a first aider, this can not be the instructor. Sometimes this can become a difficulty as if a rally organiser is the first aider it would mean them staying there for the full rally which some are up to 3 hours. As we do not all have 3 hours spare we would welcome anyone to be a first aider as you could then cover the rally that you are attending. The rallies are arranged for best value therefore we would only put on a SJ rally for 4 people for an hour, this way everyone is receiving value for money and there is not much waiting around. If rallies are full, please contact the organiser as they will do their upmost to book you onto a rally by moving things around or adding on a rally where possible. Please where possible book onto rallies in advance to help the organiser. Suggestions Have your say We are always looking for new ideas and suggestions, If something is not working for you, please contact us and we will see if there is anything that can be done. We can t promise the world, but we will try. We are always needing people to help at different times throughout the year from pole picking to jump judges. Pony Club Teams Did you know? The Brocklesby Hunt Pony Club is part of Area 6 along with 20 other Branches and 46 centres. The East Midland Area covers from the Humber down to Northampton and from the Wash to Buxton at the foot of the Pennines. There are a wide variety of Area competitions and when people mention going to the Area s this is what they are referring to. That might be in show jumping, dressage, eventing, triathlon, mounted games or more. There is a discipline for everyone! Our Area 6 has an active page on the Pony Club website showing all these different events. If you are successful at Area level, you then take on the best of the other Area s at the Championships! Over the years many of our Branch members have competed at the very highest levels within Pony Club and we hope to maintain that success and enthusiasm. Fundraising What do we need... Major improvements have taken place in the loft at Little Limber Grange including a new floor and re-wiring. This has made a great venue not only for indoor rallies, shoot practice and camp but also for fundraising events. We are very grateful to the Brocklesby Estate for their continued support in providing this space and for their investment in its upgrade. Two events have already been held at the loft, the first of which was the Pre-season Halloween Party. This saw about 80 people attend for a spooktacular disco, supper and social. The event was jointly held with the Brocklesby Hunt and was a nice opportunity for us all to get together and also 800 was raised for Pony Club funds. The second event was our Pony Club Christmas Party. Although a little chilly to start with everyone enjoyed the festive atmosphere and the presentation of cups, trophies and badges took place. About 50 people attended and over 600 was raised. The horn blowing competition took place and Thady Duff (Hunt Whipper -In) kindly attended to demonstrate the skill and the winner on the night was Milo Read, followed by Henry Dixon 2nd and Ted Dixon 3rd. Commitment required We need your ideas and help to raise funds where possible for the Club as this goes straight back to your children in the way of reductions on rallies and competition entry fees. WELL DONE SALLY READ FOR YOUR TREMENDOUS EFFORTS WITH THE LOFT!!!!
5 Payments We have experienced some challenges as parents using the Pony Club Booking and Payment System, Unity. We are looking at easier ways to do this. Watch this space.. If anyone wishes to discuss payments, please contact Diane Marshall. Badges The Pony Club Training structure encourages Members to take Tests which enables them to learn progressively about horse and pony care and riding. The Tests are taken at recommended ages and are designed with certain objectives in mind, in particular to help Members become practical and knowledgeable riders, proficient in caring for horses and ponies. The Efficiency Tests begin at E, and progress up to A Test. The A test is a prestigious award, with only a few members nationally achieving their A Test every year. E test and D test (minimum age 8 years) will be taken at Camp. D+ test (minimum age 10 years) will be held in the Spring. C test (minimum age 12 years) will be held in the Summer. C+ test (minimum age 13 years) will be run if there are enough members interested. As well as the Efficiency Tests, the Pony Club offers Achievement Badges. Mini Achievement Badges for the younger Members, as well as both Equine and Non Equine Achievement Badges for older members. The Achievement Badges closely link with the Efficiency Tests, and working for and being awarded the Badges will help with training for the Tests. Mini Achievement Badge rallies took place before Christmas, resulting in a number of Members being awarded their Gold Mini Achievement Badge. (Awarded when 14 Mini Badges have been completed). Badge rallies will start in the Spring, so that those members wishing to take their D+ and C Tests this year, can work towards Badges and Tests. Committee update We are delighted to announce 3 new committee members Corinne Williams, Sophie Dale and Felicity Gardner to support the club. There has been a few changes of roles within the Committee and we would like to advise you of the following: Janet Bowen was re-elected as the District Commissioner Nikki Byrne was elected as the Assistant District Commissioner Katy Hendry was elected as the Health and Safety Officer and is the XC rally organiser Jo McLaughlin Showjumping rally organiser The committee would like to thank Jill, Dave and Daisy for the continued support and commitment with the Pony Club. Jill will continue to be the Tri and Tet.
