President s prattle HI ALL, I am looking forward to our camp this month at PCAV Park. Whilst our numbers are not that large, the riders that attend will have a new range of experiences to try. Indoor riding, part of a cross country course and of course sleeping over with their horses. Congratulations to Alex Benson and her efforts at the State Dressage and Showjumping Competition. The Grade 3 dressage team came 5th, whilst in show jumping the B Grade team were State Champions with Alex coming 5th on Lilly. Northern Metropolitan Zone had a great result at this event. Yeringberg individual HT is occurring on the 2nd and 3rd of April and we have some of our members entered. This is a reminder that we have Showjumping set up on the Saturday and we need approximately 6 members to help set up the two showjumping rings. At the moment, Steve, Charlie and Linda Grande have volunteered, we need a couple of others please. Set up is around 9am and takes less than 2 hours. Thank you also to Vivian, Lauren, Irene Sally and Rachel for volunteering as X Country judges on the Sunday. Lauren and Irene also did the working bee at Yeringberg earlier this month. April s Rally has our AGM as part of the day. Normally we run that at lunchtime, however due to a number of events also occurring on that day we are going to run the meeting at It is the time when we elect our new committee and we need nominations for all positions. In this newsletter will be a rundown of the positions available and how to nominate. Please consider volunteering for a position, not all of them 1
require you to attend the committee meetings. I received notification this month that we were unsuccessful in our grant application for a defib in this round of applications, however our application will be included in the next round. An early notice that we are most probably moving our May Rally to Sunday the 8th as we are required to have people at the Yeringberg Teams HT which falls on our Rally day. We hopefully will have a team at this event, but we still need to supply 2 cross country judges and we are on grounds pack up at 3.30 pm. Thus for the May rally set up will be on the Sunday morning and we will need all members to help set up that morning instead of a Saturday set up. The week after Yeringberg is our club s first competition for the year and the committee are already putting things in place for the day. You will be asked for your support on that weekend, including Saturday set up and having jobs on the Sunday. Your early volunteering for tasks will make their job much easier. All members and families are required Enjoy the Camp! Kerrie Alex and Ana with Ana receiving Sprite for her 10th birthday 2
DC report 3 HI EVERYONE! As we all know our rally is going to be held at the new PCAV grounds in Gladysdale this coming weekend. The wonderful Linda has written up all the information needed for you to look at in her write up below, as I d like to do a recount on our first rally of the year which of course was February Rally, my first rally as DC. I did try to get around and have a brief chat to all of the riders, aiming to hone in on the direction of the riders as a group and individually. I gave each instructor a goals sheet for them to fill out with each individual and the responses were fantastic to read! Some responses were surprising, (in a good way) some wonderfully ambitious but all were extremely valuable to me. Bring on ambition! These results will help guide what type of rally to plan for everyone and also what little extras I can provide for you as a club. I have already sourced a few fantastic demonstrators for the year... so watch this space, it s going to be fun... So being a goals sheet, I know what everyone s riding goals are, and I m endeavouring to support as much of them as I am capable. Being at pony club is a wonderful experience as it can really propel your riding into many different areas if you work towards the opportunities given to you there. As well as being tonnes of fun! We are coming into a really busy time of the year, with competitions on pretty much most, if not all weekends, Yeringberg is fast approaching and I d love to see more riders give it a go! It s loads of fun! I have been very busy chatting to a few club members in regards to teams ect, with good interest, but please do contact myself if you re really not sure on how to go about entering, any training or preparation for any events. Another great support for any of our younger riders with questions on competing would also be some of our senior riders that are out and about quite often. All of the riders at our club are wonderfully approachable, and hopefully at camp lots of new friendships are formed to support this!
RIDERS OUT AND ABOUT Riding and non riding... Did you all see the fabulous results we had at the zone state dressage comp? Alex Benson did a spectacular job! A huge congratulations, super proud for her to be part of our club. FANTASTIC! AWESOME! Another young lady which must be mentioned is Olivia Skerman. She has blitzed the state level 3000m steeplechase, and is now off to Perth to compete for the national title! WOW! CONGRATULATIONS! Such as talented group we are! FITNESS CHECK Being such a busy time of year with all this great weather about, how about working on your ponies fitness? I m hoping to have a few real busy rallies and I would love to know that all of the horses and ponies that attend the rallies are feeling fit and as fantastic as they can for each one. Do you all know if your pony is fit enough for a long day of riding? Do you pop out into the paddock once a week and do a few trot and canter laps? Twenty minutes and hopefully more? Fitness is of extreme importance to horses, it keeps away injury, keeps them supple and comfortable under saddle but most of all keeps a horse/pony well behaved. The more hours you clock up in the saddle leading up to pony clubs, events and shows the better your day will be. So make sure you get those ponies trotting laps once a week! And for the riders on green horses not comfortable out in the openness of paddocks as yet, strong laps of a large arena are just as beneficial. Do not forget our horses and ponies are athletes, and it would be very hard for them to do a long day if we don t prepare them for it! So with all that said, bring on Yeringberg, Ride to Time and all the Horse Trials and CT you can get your ponies feet into, as well as loads of happy healthy riding at home! Blanka 4

Camp info 7 APPARENTLY, THIS TIME NEXT WEEK most of us will be heading up to our first Camp in a long time. Hopefully it is the first of an annual event and the committee has been working hard to organise programs, instructors and activities to ensure it is a success! I have enclosed a map of the Equestrian site. I went there last weekend to the State Dressage Event and watched Alex do an awesome second test. Her horse was fantastic (& beautiful). My first impression of Gladysdale was that is it very big & spread out. The yards are well made halfway along the property with water taps nearby. The house is way up the hill so either be prepared for some walking, bring a bike or car pool. We have been told we can use the Kiosk which is situated near the indoor arena, yards and other riding activities and has toilets, fridges and kitchen. So the house really is for the end of the day and is basic camping. Bring mattress, sleeping bag, pillows, torches, lots of water bottles, aeroguard, Sunscreen, hats There is the option to pitch a tent/sleep in float near the horse yards for those who are happy to rough it out-no power with toilets at the kiosk. I drove up along Wellington Rd, through Emerald to see what the drive was like that way. Although the rode is good (a little narrow for about 5 km after Emerald only), and saw horse floats along the way. The other option is along Eastlink, through Lilydale and along the Melba Hwy. Maybe longer but dual rode most of the way or overtaking lanes where there are hills so slower cars with horse floats can easily be overtaken. Turn right in the Yarra Junction township. We have at least 13 riders coming. Some are coming for only the Sunday, some are coming just for the morning sessions. We have the indoor arena from our first ride Saturday morning until 2pm when booked from then on. Remember therefore that there are other horses & Riders around the facilities and we need to be mindful of them as well. We also have Senuli from our Horsemanship group coming, so please
make her feel welcome as I know you all will with grooming/tacking up. We are hoping Group A will alternate and lend their horse in the last 15 minutes of each activity for her to have the opportunity to walk/trot/ easy jumps. THINGS TO NOTE We do not have access to higher grade XC as it is still under construction We need parent help/supervision for afternoon optional sessions Marelle must leave at 3pm as she has other commitments IF HOT-sessions maybe shortened & breaks lengthened at instructors discretion We are trying to maximise use of indoor arena whilst we have it.
