1 Newsletter January, 2017 Message from the President Hi everyone, I hope that everyone has had a wonderful Christmas break and enjoyed some relaxing family time. Anna and Amanda have prepared a fabulous rally with great instructors focused on eventing to help prepare riders for our upcoming Horse Trials. Be sure to contact Anna if your plans change regarding the rally. I m sure you all have our Horse Trials dates in your diary - Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February. It is a very exciting time and a great opportunity for riders to achieve those personal bests with the support of your club. Riders not competing are encouraged to come and help out and experience the atmosphere of a 2-day event. A reminder to all parents and riders that your help is required over the weekend and for setup prior. Sandy Garland, Nat Morton and Kate Wilson are organising volunteers so look out for their requests. Also please take the time to read about our amazing raffle & remember to bring your non-perishable item for the hamper and pick up your raffle ticket book this Sunday. 2 DC News Congratulations again to our senior riders from Black & Yellow Groups lead by Anna Church who ran a fantastic Christmas Rally with the Come dressed as something starting with the first letter of your first name theme. The parade was spectacular. Thank you to the riders, ponies and parents who created superb costumes and made the day so much fun. Thank you also to all families for bringing salads and desserts and importantly to Twister Trish Kroeger who organised all the meat, drinks, ribbons and more and oversaw the smooth running of the day. 3 DC News cont d We are thrilled to be welcoming back some of our recently injured riders. Olivia Garland and ; Grace George are both returning after a long time in plaster and Grace Symes is also returning after knee surgery. We also wish Ella Trevorrow all the best with her second operation on her leg after a fall last year and look forward to her returning to PC soon. It s also been lovely to see Tess McCarty back in the saddle & we hope to have her back at pony club in the next few months. Congratulations to our Lilly and Lachlan who competed in December at the PCAV Tetrathlon which is a variation of the modern pentathlon requiring competitors to complete a run, swim, shooting & jumping phase and also to Ruby & Lily who went to the Mentone PC Horse Trials. As always the club is so proud of your efforts and achievements. The Pink Group will have a fabulous & fun day running through the C Assessment Day as it occurs in Feb with Rachael and as well that group will enjoy a cross country lesson with Will. The groups have been made smaller for this rally (only) according to, as much as possible, to your current HT/CT grading so you can enjoy maximum attention from these instructors. We have many of our favourite instructors Emily Anker, Tim Calkin, Rachael Edwards and Will Enzinger and we introduce a new face but a very familiar name to the eventing world Nat Davies. Nat is an established and successful 4* eventer from the Mornington Peninsula. 3

5 Horse Trials The club s major event of the year is nearing and the team has been working very hard for months to orgnanise this event. We already have more than 170 entries across all of our classes and we are the first club in Victoria to offer the new PCAV Championship Class (110 cm). For the first time also, we are offering two Combined Training (dressage and showjumping) Classes for our youngest and inexperienced competitors. It s especially exciting to see some of our Silver Group riders entering their very first completion. 7 Horse Trials Raffle We are incredibly lucky to be offering a fantastic raffle in conjunction with our event. Kindly organised by Georgie Tassell (Charlie s Mum) and with your support this raffle will raise major funds to go towards more jumps at our club (dreaming about an XC water jump?) This rally all families will receive a book of 10 raffle per ticket to sell. We also ask that each member bring a small non-perishable item to go into our prize hamper (choose something you d like to receive in a hamper). More tickers will be available to sell too. This major prize is not just appealing to horsey people think of friends, family & work colleagues who might enjoy a luxurious escape in the Yarra Valley.
