2 President s prattle HI ALL Hard to believe that it is the middle of the year, time is just flying along and I think that with May been a big month for us we start to lose track of time, including getting a May Rallyround out to you. As it is June we have just completed a very busy month, with Yeringberg again. Thank you Vivian and Sasha for been our jump judge duty people, also again a big thank you to Steven, Charlie, Charlie and Brian who did the show jumping set up on the Saturday. As I had said in an earlier our girls did well on the day, it was just a pity that no one from Nunawading came and saw the riders compete. The weekend after was of course our competition and that was busy for all that set up on the Saturday (10 hours) and then either competed and worked on the Sunday. A very big thank you to RINGWOOD PONY CLUB for helping us out at the last minute with providing their dressage rings to us. Also to Kate and Rosie for either picking them up or returning them on the Monday. The first member of our club drove in at 5.30am on the Sunday and that same person drove out around 5. 45pm. The day ran fairly smoothly and again thank you to the members and families that worked tirelessly on the day. We still did not have all members there to help, however we will look forward to seeing you at the next competition in October which is usually bigger. As of the start of next month all parents and club supporters MUST have their Working with Children s Check. If you have not done that as yet it is very important that you do so now. PCAV have asked that when you complete the Working with Children s form that you also 1

3 place PCAV as one of the organisations. For the people that have already completed the form, could you please go on line and add PCAV. By doing this it allows PCAV to be aware of who has completed the checks and allows us to help out at events. I apologise for the added extra, but as you would be aware setting up these checks is still in the teething stage with our organisation. Thank you to parents and supporters that have already done that. Membership forms from now on will have the WWCC guideline on there as it is a requirement of PCAV and thus Nunawading s conditions to be a member of the association and the club. Just a reminder that we would like all members to be in correct uniform when at rallies, this includes club polo s, jumpers and the appropriate coloured jodhpurs. Please see Linda on rally days as she will be able to help you with obtaining the club uniform. She will have the uniform shop open between 9 and 11 on these days. There may be specials coming up as well on some of the club gear that we have. It is wonderful to see a number of our riders attending the various clinics, including the Brenda Mitton Clinics. They provide such great experience and a wealth of knowledge from the instructors that run each of the sessions. At the end of the clinics riders and often the parents as well, come away with more confidence and understanding of the relationship between the rider and the horse. We do have some of our riders this month attending the C certificate examination day at Healesville Pony Club. They have been working towards this for over a year and we wish them well at this day. In completing this certificate they are allowed to compete at state level. See you all on Sunday at rally Kerrie 2

8 DC report 7 HI, Well firstly hello to all and thank you for trusting me with the role of DC. I m not going to pretend that I know all the ins and outs of the role. I will be very much learning as I go and am very thankful that I have Steph s ongoing support for any questions I can t find the answer to myself. So I m sure it will all work out. I think I know most members, but not all of you. So let me introduce myself a little. I m a mother of two, Emily & Luke, and they are both members at Nunawading. I also ride myself, I have a horse, Sam, a 9 year old Trakhener Sport Horse who is both my joy and personal challenge. I ve been riding since I got my first horse when I was 15. That was a few years ago now, so I ve racked up a bit of experience. I never attended pony club myself (back then I just went trail riding all around Vermont and even over to Drummies Bridge reserve or out toward the Dandenongs along Dandenong Creek.) Over the past 20 odd (cough, cough) years I ve been a member of 4 different HRCAV clubs and also an EA member. I m currently a member of Working Equitation Yarra Valley (HRCAV), Yarra Valley Dressage Club (EA) and also an EA member. My love is dressage and I m currently a trainee EA Introductory level NCAS. Although I never attended Pony Club myself I have now been a pony club mum for the past 6 ½ years, since Emily started pony club at the age of 5. Over that time we ve been with 3 different pony clubs, due to moving horses from one place to another on agistment. So although I don t have a really in depth knowledge of pony club, I m hoping that I can bring some experience of how other clubs do things to the table here at Nunawading too. I love to see the riders at Nunawading smiling and enjoying their rallies while improving their technique and horsemanship knowledge and skills. It is great seeing people out and about competing, but equally wonderful to hear about those other non-competition achievements.

9 For some it might be remembering how to hold the reins without being prompted, cantering their first full circle, or simply taking a new horse out somewhere and keeping things calm all day. I d love to hear about those sorts of things on the Nunawading Facebook page and in the newsletter too! Or if you don t want to share it with the world, please always feel free to come up to me at rally and let me know so that I can congratulate you. For those riding at pre 5 through to training grade 3, there is a Brenda Mitton clinic being held at North Eastern Pony Club on the 8th and 9st July (during school holidays). These two day clinics are great value and I simply cannot speak highly enough of what a great learning and training opportunity these clinics are. Your entry for these clinic must be signed by the DC (Me!) so if you wish to attend please bring your entry with you to rally (I will bring along a few spare copies as well). Entry form can be found from a link on the PCAV website calendar of events. We have some members booked to sit their C Certificate exam in June and many others working their way through certificate books at various levels. One of the things I ll be focusing on over the coming months is getting to know where each member is in terms of their skills, knowledge and progress through the PCAV certificates, you may have noticed a question about that on the sign-up sheet! So don t be surprised if I come and have a chat with you or please feel free to contact me or come and see me if you have any questions about working your way through the PCAV certificates.
