3 Event Roundup June Birthdays Sophie Myszka Emma Cameron Phoebe Wollington Jana Krslovic Gemma Cawrse Voigt Well, I hope everyone has recovered from our Showjumping and Dressage weekend. It was a very successful event making around $4,500. Brad and Kim did an excellent job with the raffle which made about $900. Big thank you to Rhonda, Janet and Dale for running the canteen the whole weekend which made just over $600. It all could not have happened without the awesome effort of the Events Committee, Sue, Rachel and Petra who put in many hours beforehand and were there from setup day on Friday through to pack up on Sunday. Also to Geoff, Brian and Andy who were also there from Friday to Sunday helping with setup and packup and whatever else needed to be done through the day. Thank you to everyone that was able to help out over the three days and especially those that were able to do multiple days as we couldn t have covered all the jobs without you. Also to the small crew that attended the working bee to get the grounds looking very neat and tidy. We had great feedback from competitors on the relaxed atmosphere of our competition. The gate marshalls and judges assistants did a great job making sure competitors doing both disciplines didn t miss their events which made it a stress free experience for them. Judges also commented on how good it was to see our own club members competing as well. While setting up, we have come up with a few more things we need to run events so these funds will come in very handy. Hailey Carter Zara Nicholson

4 DC s Report Thank you everyone for replying promptly to my request if you were attending June Rally. It made it really easy for me to be able to get the group list and rally plan done early and ensure I have enough instructors for the day. There will be a new sign on sheet in the office when you drop off your cards. Every member is required to fill it out first thing in the morning. You need to find your name and tick the box if you have put your card in the group boxes. Please list the horse/s you are riding at rally this month or whether you are unmounted. This information will assist the Card Secretary to correctly fill out your grading card. For bio-security purposes you need to list the address or PIC number of the property where the horse is kept. There is also a column to list who you are here with and also sign in with a time in and out colomn too. As our 2016/17 cards should arrive during June, please leave your grading cards in the box so that I can fill in the details on your new card. Of course, if you are competing during June, please keep your card and I will complete your new card at the July Rally. Congratulations to Sarah Winchester on being selected to be in the Southern Metro Zone Grade 4 Team for the PCAV Interzone Horse Trials which was held on Sunday, 29th May. Due to the PCVEC groups not being available, the event was held at Yeringberg which was a great opportunity to ride the course there. Unfortunately there were two eliminations so the team was unable to place. Well done Sarah. Absence If you are going to be absent from rally contact Anna micann@netspace. net.au Also be mindful of any rally duty obligations, as you are responsible for making sure your duty is covered Congratulations to Gemma Cawrse Voigt riding Maddie who won her Grade 5 section at Mini Tooradin Horse Trials. Well done to all our members that competed and thanks to everyone for completing our zone duties for the event. The Scottie Barclay Clinic is planned for this Saturday starting at 8am. It is great to see that there are quite a few of our own members taking the opportunity to have a lesson with Scottie. He will also be taking Red, Brown, Purple and Pink groups for the showjumping lessons on Sunday. Good luck to Gemma MacKenzie and Marey and Sophie Myszka and Satin who are part of the composite games team with Pearcedale and Dingley who will be competing at the State Games on Sunday, 19th June at PCVEC. They had a practice with the team last weekend at Dingley PC. The last C Certificate Assessment Day this year will be held on Saturday, 15th October. Completed books are required by SMZ by 13th Sept 2015 with forms and payment. This means that we will need your book a couple of weeks prior so it can be checked to make sure it is complete and allow time for any additional work to be done. If you would like to be assessed this year, please advise me so I can make sure we have everything ready to send off in time.. I have booked Kim Johnson from Yarra Ranges Animal Hospital to attend our September Rally and give a talk at lunchtime. Kim will be available on the day to do vaccinations, health checks, microchipping on your horse on the day for very reasonable prices. I will have prices and a booking sheet at the lunchtime meeting. Our Newsletter Editor, Emma is going to Denmark in July to compete at the World Mounted Games Pairs Championship. Her pair is Chloe from NSW who is over in the UK at the moment competing. Emma will be borrowing a pony from Julie, a Danish girl who rode one of Emma s ponies at the Victorian Individuals Championships earlier this year. See you on Sunday Anna

Doongala Pony Club was able to raise and pass on $ for Breast Cancer Network Australia. And also a very BIG thank you to everyone that volunteered their time to donate, set up, sell, buy and support the raffle at the Dressage/Show Jump Spectacular. What an Awesome Event!! and hopefully there where plenty of people walking away happy with their prizes. The Fundraising Team.

6 Rule Change for Horse Trials Grading For those that do not have their D Certificate yet, there is a new rule coming in to effect on 1st July that requires members to have their D Certificate before they can be graded for horse trials. Workbooks don t have to be done only at rally, you can work on them at home. Activities can be signed off by any instructor (private or rally), any member that has done their C Certificate, a competent parent or friend. Once complete, please give it to me so I can have it checked and organise a date for the assessment. Grading Card Wallets and Medical Armbands After you compete in events, please take off any sticky dots that organisers have placed on them so they are ready for your next event and do not obscure important details. USE OF THE GROUNDS Being a member at Doongala Pony Club allows you the use of the grounds. However, there are times when you cannot ride at the grounds; The dates are included in the newsletter and ed where applicable to members. If there are lessons being held on the arena, please make sure you either use the half of arena that isn t being used or the back arena. It is essential that riders are courteous of the rider having the lesson for their safety and yours. Ensure you lock the gate when you leave.

9 Out and About at Mini Tooradin HT Page 9 Please submit your Out and About to doongalaponyclub@gmail.com HAILEY: Tooradin was AWESOME fun! Jasper did the best with dressage! He got a score of 22. Jasper got kicked by another horse just before we did showjumping :(.. He was ok so we still jumped and we had 1 refusal and 1 pole. With crosscountry I was wayyy to fast - our time to complete it was 4mins 45seconds... But we did it in 3mins 20seconds... I will try to slow him down next time. Overall Jasper and I came 6th!! I got a great ribbon & its on my bedroom wall! JESS: Tooradin was great fun. My team was Shaylie from Doongala and 2 other girls from other clubs.. Elle and Tanaya. Lou did great in her dressage. In showjumping we knocked one pole. And we got a 2second penalty in crosscountry. Lou played up a bit on crosscountryrearing and stuff... But she eventually came good! Our team didnt place but we all tried our best and had a really great day!

11 Page 11 Doongala Pony Club Presentation Night Awards Each rally, a rider is allocated points towards the end of year awards. The following is an explanation of all awards available. 100% Attendance Award This award is given to members who attend every rally commencing in the December and concluding the following November. If attending unmounted, you must still be in full pony club uniform and assist with your allocated group. Merit Award Each rally, the rider is marked on their presentation, cleanliness of gear, cleanliness and condition of horse and attitude towards not only their riding, but also their attitude toward other group members and their instructor. Horsemastership Award Their instructor gives this award to a rider. This award is given for overall attitude in riding and improvement in knowledge of practical care of the horse. Most Improved Award Their instructor gives this award to the rider who, in their view, has improved the most during the year. D.C. Award The District Commissioner gives this award to a Junior and Senior Rider who, in their view, has shown a marked improvement, gracious attitude and overall good ambassador for the club. President s Award The President gives this award to a Junior and Senior rider for service to the club, Service is helping at working bees, events, zone events, assisting outside their rostered days and any other assistance given. Maggie McCallum Award This award is named after a past member who tragically passed away in The award recognises the essence that was Maggie. Her determination and positive outlook in solving problems is the quality that will aid any young person in their lives and as such, the club honours a rider each year who shows that same determination and positive outlook. The award is given to a member selected by the instructors, who, in their combined opinion, has had a very difficult time with their horse/pony throughout the year. That although they have had problems, they have shown that special quality, perseverance, determination and positive attitude. Membership Award All current riding members are given a memento in recognition of their membership to the club. This could be small trophy, medallion, rosette, etc.

12 Rally Duty Roster Please advise Nicol Booth if you have swapped duties/ times/months with someone else so the rosters can be kept up to date. From July we will have a couple of months rosters so you can plan ahead. If you have any specific requirements about duties, please advise Nicol and she will do her best to accommodate it. What to do SETUP CLUBROOM/TOILETS/BINS Place all chairs in rows ready for lunchtime meeting. Clean toilets and sink (mens, ladies, disabled), top up toilet rolls, hand soap, papertowel, sweep floor (supplies n disabled toilet). Bring up wheelie bins from front gate and put outside canteen and clubrooms, place green plastic baskets in bin holders. PACKUP CLUBROOMS/TOILETS/BINS Stack up chairs, empty bins, sweep and mop floors if necessary. Tidy toilets, close lids, empty bins. Collect green baskets from bin holders and place all rubbish in wheelie bin or recycling bin. Wheelie bins to be placed on kerbside on the other side of the road from the front gate. SETUP ARENA 9am meet the rest of the setup team on the arena and follow the instructions in the DC s book on what is required for the day. PACK UP ARENA At the completion of the last session, help load all equipment onto the trailers to be put in sheds.
