We have had a very busy fall and are well on our way to winter and our 2 week break. Our first fundraiser, the Hawk Hop-a-thon, was a huge success! A big shout out to Sarah McKenzie for all the work she put into our Hop-a-thon! Thank you everyone for being so supportive. We are so happy to announce that this 100% profit fundraiser met our goal! We raised $8,158! For all you lovely SWE PTSA members, the directory went out in mid- November. I hope you all got a copy and are loving it like we are! It's a great way for your children to get in touch with friends, new and old! Thank you Dawn Spencer and Jessica Coon for all of your work on this huge project! Reflections went off without a hitch once again thanks to our wonderful chairs Alison Hawkins and Brandi Painter. We have some very talented children, who we acknowledged with our Reflections Gala. We have many children moving on to the next level of the competition. Family Fun Night was a Bingo Night this year. For the first time ever, the prizes were all amazing desserts! Thank you to everyone who helped make these beautiful desserts to share, to everyone who played and all those wonderful volunteers who helped us set up and breakdown the bingo night. We cannot do these Family Fun Nights without our volunteers and you are very much appreciated. Family Fun Night is a great way to help support Stillwater Elementary's Book Fair and bring families together! It was such a success that we are thinking of doing one in the spring. We are looking forward to our next events. The Elf Workshop is this Friday! We have changed it up a little bit this year. We are very excited and cannot wait to show you our fun, new ideas. We have the gym and 6 classrooms this year! The crafts will be spread out, so it won't be so crazy in the gym and there will be plenty of tables for dining in the gym. The first 100 families will receive a Stillwater PTSA tote bag with several holiday crafts to make at home. So don't be late! When we get back from the holiday break we will start recruiting for the talent show! Auditions will be January 8 & 9, so get your friends together over the holiday and work out your talents. Great job Stillwater Hawks!!! We reached our goal of raising $8,000 in pledges for the Hop-A-Thon ($8,158 to be exact). On top of that an impressive $1,014 was raised thanks to corporate matching pledges. This means that the PTSA would love to treat the whole school to a cotton candy treat as promised for reaching our goal. Congratulations to Mrs. Epps 3rd grade class for turning in the most pledges and earning a pizza party lunch with Mr. Madigan and a special visit from Stillwater's very own "Soaring Hawk" mascot. We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to all of the jumpers and parents who worked so hard to raise pledges. Also thank you to Jake Hammons, Stillwater's own fearless PE teacher who carried out all of the actual "hopping" that went on by setting up all of the fun stations and overseeing a whole days worth of jump roping. And special mention to Emily Christensen and Missy Harvold our wonderful music teacher and librarian for giving their day to help turn jump ropes and put smiles on our kiddos faces alongside Jake in the gym. Again the PTSA extends a very sincere thank you for making this fundraiser successful. The Art Docent program is in need of empty pump soap dispensers or hand sanitizers dispensers for a First Grade art lesson. 3 We are just two days away from Elf Workshop! The Elf Workshop will be held Friday, December 12 th from 6 to 8 PM in the gym and some classrooms. The gym will be used for eating, visiting Santa, wrapping gifts, and enjoying hot chocolate and other fun snack items we have in store all while listening to the wonderful voices of the Stillwater Hawks choir. The classrooms will be used to build the wonderful crafts that we have in store for this year s Workshop. The committee has been hard at work the last several weeks to come up with some fun and exciting crafts for the kids to work on. We have 16 crafts for the children to create this year and prices for the crafts are either $1 or $2 nothing more than $2 this year! Also, there will be two items for the children to create in the gym as well. This year we will also have a selfie area where families and friends can take silly selfie pictures together! Be sure to watch the PTSA Facebook page for sneak peeks of the crafts and more information on this exciting event. We will also be placing posters around the school with more enticing pictures and information to get your children excited for this super fun holiday event! We are still in need of volunteers for this event. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact chair person, Kristy Cloutier at or Kristy.cloutier@williams.com. Also, the first 100 families who show up to this fun Ho-Ho-Holiday event will receive a Stillwater Elementary tote bag with a few small crafts to take home. Stillwater Reflections Finalists Elf Workshop Reflections Gala On Thursday, November 20 th, Stillwater PTSA held the annual Reflections Gala and Gallery night. Attendees had the opportunity to view all the Reflections entries for the academic year that included submissions in Literature, Visual Arts, Music Composition and Photography. Principal Madigan welcomed everyone to the event and applauded all participants on their entries. Stillwater students submitted nearly 30 entries but only 2 finalists could be chosen from each category and age division. We want to congratulate the following students who will be moving on to the District competition and wish them the best of luck during the next round of judging (District Gala to be held on January 9 th ). 4 Family Fun Night Everyone Wins at Bingo! We had our first Bingo Night of the year Friday, November 21 st. We decided to try something different by offering individual desserts 6 servings for each winner! This was a great way for many to benefit from each win. We had so many yummy treats like Chocoflan Cake donated by Cakes by Yessi, Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bites, Surprise Pinata Cupcakes, Indian Corn Cupcakes, Turkey s on a Stick, Dirt Cakes, Rainbow Jell-O and much more! There were many excited kids picking out treats for themselves, friends, and family. We had a huge turnout with 172 people in attendance! This event wouldn t have been so successful without the generous donations of the desserts and all the help of many wonderful volunteers. I d like to thank the following people: Yessi Briseno, Sarah McKenzie, Jessica Coon, Dani Graham, Lindsey Tolson, Lloyd McCracken, Lynda Brown, Cari Orme, Ruby Childs, Serene Norris, Kristy Cloutier, Orlene Olson, Karyn Summers, and Jason Shumaker. I d also like to thank all the families who braved the rain and came out to have a fun night with the SWE community! It s time to start thinking about your act to show all your friends your awesome talent. Auditions are January 8 and 9. Permission slips and signups are in the office and attached to this newsletter. 5 January Talent Show Stillwater PTSA 2015 Talent Show Can you tell a joke, play an instrument, juggle, dance, or perform an original skit? SCHEDULE: Auditions will be held January 8 and 9 after school on the stage. There will be a sign-up sheet in the school office and you must sign-up for an audition time. You will bring your permission slip and a parent/ guardian to your audition. Dress Rehearsal will be January 22 in the gym right after school. You must attend dress rehearsal to participate in the talent show. Talent Shows are January 23 at 2pm and January 23 at 6:30pm. Rules and Guidelines: All performers must complete a permission slip in order to audition and participate in the show. Additional permission slips are available in the office and on the Stillwater PTSA website. Acts must be no longer than 90 seconds. Some acts may need to be further shortened. If you are in a group act of five or more, you may also do ONE solo act. All performers should come to their auditions prepared with music, props, costumes, etc. If you are using music in your performance, you must provide your clean/edited song burned onto a separate CD for our tech crew. Please label with your name and song. CD s will only be returned upon request. Keep a copy at home to practice. Lip syncing is not permitted. You must provide a karaoke version of your song. NO inappropriate music, lyrics, dance moves or language will be permitted. Have fun and let your talent shine! December 2014/January 2015 Issue 9.8 Page 5
