GROUP AUDITION: Monday, January 8, 2018 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the cafeteria Students interested in a lead or supporting role must partake in the group audition. (Students interested solely in a chorus role, do not need to attend auditions.) Our Producer has assigned a short snippet from two Willy Wonka, Jr. songs. Choose from either song and learn only the small section marked. Students should know the assigned short portion of an audition song and be prepared to sing it with the group. 3 PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS We have once again contracted with Jordyn Meeker, owner of Edge Performing Arts and Dance in Shoreline, to produce our show. The play chosen is Willy Wonka, Jr. Auditions will be open to 4 th -6 th graders interested in a leading or supporting role and will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. There will be callbacks for some roles on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Any 4 th -6 th graders interested solely in a chorus role, do not need to audition, those students will be included as a chorus cast member. All 4 th -6 th grade students interested in a lead or supporting role are required to attend the group audition. Please make sure to mark the preferred type of role on the registration form and we ll do our best to consider everyone s preferences. There is a fee of $55 to participate in the play, except for the stage crew. Scholarships are available. AUDITIONS Students interested in a lead or supporting role will be auditioning as a group. Our Producer has assigned short snippets from Willy Wonka, Jr. All auditioning students should know the assigned short portion of at least one of the songs and be prepared to sing it with the group during the audition. Candy Man (1:18-1:33) Think Positive (Beginning to :30) Here are the instrumental tracks to practice without having the singers backing kids up: Candy Man: Think Positive: Visit the website of Edge Performing Arts and Dance for the audition song links: Students should understand that auditioning does not guarantee a lead, speaking or singing solo. We will make our best effort to include everyone who registers to be in the show. The PTA will notify students of the roles they will play by January 12, LEAD ROLES: Large speaking role and singing solos. Lead characters possess a loud, clear speaking voice with vocal inflections appropriate to the role. A high-energy student with comfort on stage required. Singing voice is strong and student is comfortable singing alone. Enjoys dancing and movement alone and with a group. Must memorize a significant number of lines will require extra time outside of rehearsal to learn lines. (audition required) SUPPORTING ROLES: Smaller speaking roles and singing solos. Supporting characters possess a loud, clear speaking voice with vocal inflections appropriate to the role. A high-energy student with comfort on stage required. Singing voice is strong and student is comfortable singing alone or with small group. Enjoys dancing and movement alone and with group. (audition required) CHORUS: No singing or speaking solos. Student enjoys singing and dancing in a group situation. (no audition required) BACKSTAGE CREW: Only 3 to 4 back stage kids will be needed. These are leadership roles perfect for a student that wants to help but doesn t want to be in the spotlight. REHEARSALS All rehearsals are REQUIRED. Students who have conflicts that will result in missing 3 or more rehearsals should not participate. Rehearsals take place in the cafeteria. Students may not be on stage for the entire rehearsal time, so they should be prepared to do quiet activities such as reading or homework. The director may let cast members know that they will not need to be at every rehearsal if their role is not practiced on that day. Students are required to memorize all scripts and music to which they are assigned. Attendance at the DRESS REHEARSALS is mandatory for all participants.
4 REHEARSAL SCHEDULE FEBRUARY 2018 Monday, Feb. 12th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. *Thursday, Feb. 15th, 3:30-4:30 p.m. (one hour rehearsal due to Science Monday, Feb. 26th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. MARCH 2018 *Thursday, March 1st, 3:30-5:30 p.m. (may dismiss early due to evening musical *Tuesday, March 6th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. (no school on Monday, 3/5) Thursday, March 8th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, March 12th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, March 19th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. *Thursday, March 22nd, 3:30-5:30 p.m. (may dismiss early due to Science Monday, March 26th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. APRIL 2018 Dress Rehearsal #1 *Monday, April 2nd, 3:30-6:30 p.m. (note, extended time) Dress Rehearsal #2 *Wednesday, April 4th, 3:30-6:30 p.m. (note, day & extended time) Thursday, April 5th, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Performances: Performances will be Thursday, April 5 th during a school assembly (a shorter, teaser preview) and Saturday, April 7 th. All shows are REQUIRED. Students will need to arrive early for Saturday performances to prepare for the show (director will advise closer to date). All performances will be on stage in the auditorium (aka cafeteria) at LFP. School Assembly Performance Thursday, April 5th, 2:25 p.m. Matinee and Evening Performances Saturday, April 7th, 3:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.
5 PARENT/CAREGIVER CONTRIBUTION We had a successful play last year thanks to the hard work of so many. Putting on the play is a huge endeavor and takes many helping hands. We look forward to working together with you and your child to create a great team this year! A $55 participation fee will be collected for each student (excluding stage crew). Scholarships available. You must provide a snack for your student for every rehearsal. PTA cannot provide snacks due to allergy concerns and students have a hard time concentrating on empty bellies at the end of the school day. A parent meeting will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 th in the cafeteria. Attendance is highly encouraged, as you ll be able to meet the producer and get all your questions answered. We need parent talent too! Volunteer help will be essential to the success of the play. A family member (parent, grandparent, older sibling) of each participant is REQUIRED to sign up for at least one of the following tasks. Rehearsal Volunteer: Take rehearsal attendance. Keep kids occupied during downtimes, help with starting and stopping music, help kids run lines, etc. (One adult per rehearsal.) Backstage Show Volunteer: Help keep kids quiet and move to back stage places, help crew move set and props efficiently, help with costume changes, etc. (Two adults per show.) Front of House Coordinator: Supervise student volunteers for handing out programs, ushering, selling concessions & flowers. (One volunteer per show.) Set Design Coordinator & Helpers: Help prepare sets and props. (5-6 volunteers) Costume Helpers: Help inventory, prepare and label costumes. (3-4 volunteers) Design program and poster/flyers: Create a program for distributing at the play; create flyers for promoting the play (these tasks can be done at home). (1-2 volunteers) Bake Sale Coordinator: Request donations of baked goods for sale during performances; organize and set-up the bake sale. (1-2 volunteers) Photographer: Take head shots of all cast members & create display board for performances; take pictures during dress rehearsals and performances. (1-2 volunteers) Costume Clean up: Organize and sort costumes post-show. If necessary, take costumes home to be washed after the play. (1-2 volunteers) Cast & Crew Party Coordinator: Plan and coordinate a cast & crew party after the play performances. (2 volunteers)

The fee for par+cipa+ng in the school play is $55, except for those wishing to be part of the stage crew. Stage crew should register, but will not need to a;end rehearsals un+l closer to the performance date (to be determined by director). Scholarships are available. 8 Complete & Return to PTA BEHAVIORAL CONTRACT: Student Name: The above student agrees to the following behavioral contract: a) Student agrees to a;end all rehearsals that he/she is called for, with the excep+on of illness. No more than three missed rehearsals are allowed. Dress rehearsals for CAST & STAGE CREW are 100% required, as well as all shows. Proper communica+on about missed rehearsals, leaving early or arriving late is required. b) While at rehearsal the student agrees to be focused, quiet and respeckul of all people involved in the show including the director, volunteers and peers. Student agrees to work as a team player, be encouraging and suppor+ve of others, and use only posi+ve language about themselves and their peers. c) The student agrees to memorize all music and lines assigned to them by the date specified by the Director. By signing below, the parent and student agree to the above. Failure to follow will result in an ini+al warning to the student. Second failure to follow will result in a conversa+on with parents. A third failure could result in removal from the show or loss of role in the show. The stage crew assists with changing the sets before and aier scene changes, ligh+ng and sound, curtain opening and closing, and more.
