1 *New for the Maryland Dairy Goat Association, this year, is a "program" that will be created once for the entire show season and will feature mostly advertising, with some articles about the MDGA, and our own goat dairies. As it is an MDGA program, the articles will be based on the club and its members, but advertising is open to anyone (with limitations - see 6th bullet). *Most of the wording in the included program sample is merely "stock text", a space filler to give you a visual reference of how articles may look. The photos are fuzzy because I had to considerably reduce the file size to be able to send it via . *I am expecting to print 300 copies of the program to be available for anyone to take to whatever shows you attend, most especially the State Fairs (lots of spectators). If you have local feed stores where you would like to post them, feel free. If 300 is thought to be too few or too many, please let me know. The more programs that are printed and handed out, the farther your advertising may reach. *******************Please read carefully to the terms of advertising in the new MDGA season program. *The size of the program (number of pages) is dictated by the number of ads purchased, and the number of articles written. Fewer ads/articles means shorter program, more ads/articles means longer program. The programs are being professionally printed. *Based on the number of members we have, there won't be enough ads bought to pay for the creation of the programs. We NEED outside help with advertising. I am specifically looking for LOCAL/SMALL businesses/breeders/ service people. Small businesses need the visibility, and we can help them/us get it. It does NOT have to be goat related businesses. ***Please bring a copy of this information to give to all those who are interested in advertising.*** ***I have included a program I picked up from a local poultry show to give a few ideas on ad design, though if you have specific ideas, let me know. I have other programs at my disposal for ideas, as well. The quality of the MDGA program will be clean and crisp, once finalized and professionally printed. *The ONLY full color pages available are the inside front cover *SOLD* the inside back cover (1/8 up to full page available) the outside back cover (1/2 page sold, 1/8 up to 1/2 still available) All interior pages will be black/white. *All color pages are first come, first served. Example: If the first person to ask about the inside front cover asks for a 3/4 page ad, then that is the only ad that will be present on that page. If said person asks about a 1/2 page ad, then either a 1/4 - long page or (2) 1/8 page ads will be available. The same goes for the inside and outside back covers. Full page color ad is currently available on inside back page, first come first served. *All black/white pages have 1/8 up to full page availability, and there is no limit to how many of what size, though size combinations will need to be matched up to reduce waste of space. Again, size of the program is dictated by number of articles and ads. ******VERY IMPORTANT The ONLY ad size that allows for the exact duplication of 2x3 business cards is the 1/8 page ad. Increasing the size of a scanned business card will reduce clarity and quality of the ad. ALL other size ads must be custom made to fit the size of the ad. Depending on the types of files I receive, I should be able to alter the sizes to more correctly fit the dimensions of the actual space. An ad made slightly larger to the actual ad space is better because increasing the size of a smaller ad will reduce clarity, like with the business card resizing. If alterations don't work, I will work with you on re-creating your ad myself.

2 The 1/8 page ad does not have to be a scanned business card. It is merely the only size that can accommodate a scanned business card. It can be custom made like any other size. *If you don't have the ability to make your own ad, or I can't get your file to work correctly within the ad space, I can help you create your ad. I will need all correctly worded information and photos (if applicable) sent to me promptly, as there will most likely be a lot of ad customization that I will have to do. *The dimensions given on each ad size are only estimated sizes based on how they currently appear on my computer. They are to give you an idea of how to size your custom ad. Final sizing will depend on a number of things, but should only be a slight variation from how they currently are. PAYMENT Checks should be written out to MDGA or Maryland Dairy Goat Association, but mailed to me so I can keep payment and ads together. No payment, no ad. ALL PAYMENTS AND ADS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY MARCH 25. I will need a lot of time to create or fix ads, finalize the program, and get it printed. *Don t forget to request advertising space from your local feed stores, service people, business friends, etc. Thanks for your help and support! In 1975 we bought our first two Alpine does to have milk for our son, Chris, who could not tolerate cow s milk. When our daughter, Kathleen, joined 4H she took on goats/sheep projects. This lasted until she was too old for 4H. During this time we began to attend ADGA open shows. In 1997 we made our first trip to Nationals in Harrisburg where our daughter won one first place and the Rookie Award for the highest placing newcomer. WE HAD THE BUG! It was now decision time for the Anders Family: do we sell the goat herd (which now included Oberhasli, Nubian, Grade and LaMancha) or do we expand to compete in the Open Goat shows? We decided the latter. We also attended the 2006 and 2008 Nationals where our does never placed below 8th place in any class except for one LaMancha that has been our only doe to not make the cut (first 20 animals). Our goal has always been to raise beautiful, healthy, and strong animals. We linear appraise annually and currently have in our herd 4 does, (one Nubian, one Oberhasli and two LaMancha) scoring 92, nine does scoring 91, nine with a 90 and 13 (mostly first fresheners) scoring 89. As you can see, Blue Ridge is not your typical goat dairy because our goats are primarily show animals. Our breeding program began with an emphasis on showing, and since 1995 we have finished forty (40) Permanent Champions and we currently have an additional twenty two (22) does in our herd with at least one championship leg including several with two. In 2004 we built a new barn and added a Class A milk operation but have, until this year, only run it as a Class C business. We did have a recent Class A inspection to coincide with a decision to build a cheese/fluid milk operation at our place. We are primarily known for our Oberhasli breeding stock and Artisian cheeses which were sold last year at Farmers Markets in VA (Middleburg, Old Towne Alexandria, Crystal City), and in Shepherdstown and Morgan Grove, WV. Because both Steve and Linda will need to have knee replacements sometime in the future, we have had some serious conversations of closing the dairy and returning to just a show herd to cut down on the work load. That being said, we are in negotiations with some investors to build a cheese plant here. We typically offer tours on weekends and our website can be found at
