2 YEAR 9 BUSHWALKING CAMP Thank you to Chelsea Kotz for these photos Page 2
3 YEAR 9 BUSHWALKING CAMP - Memorable Moments When I nearly threw Jayden s and my bags on a dead & rotting kangaroo and when Benn, Jake and I were running and Benn slipped in the water. DALE My memorable moment was when I walked with Miss Brown and Mathew on both walks and lead the way. I got lost during the orienteering with Mr Close, Connor, Scott and Mathew. We were lost for ages and then we finally found the letter which was strategically placed on the back of a tree JAMES My most memorable moment was when Alex and I were walking down the steep hill down to the Gorge, just talking away. Then I asked Alex a question but didn t get a reply. I turned around to see Alex slipping down the hill! So I grabbed her and pulled her back up. KAYLA What I will always remember on this camp was seeing all the wildlife, seeing plants, trees, bushes, waterfall which haven t been destroyed and some of the sights were amazing. But one thing I loved was the hidden Gorge, there was massive red cliffs with massive trees poking out of the side and face of the cliff and seeing waterfalls coming down the cliff. KYLE M The most memorable moment was when Mathew and I got lost on the way to the showers and walked into another campsite. Also a lot of people were looking at us while we were heading towards the showers FELIX My most memorable moment was when Toby told a cracker of a story for our campfire activities. It was supposed to be scary but it was just hilarious it was about a ghost and stuff. KYLE V My most memorable moment would be the first night when I couldn t sleep and woke up to Kayla snoring from the other side of the camp ground that the girls were camped on. It was a loud, deep snore that I had to bite my lip from laughing. To make it worse, Ciara was snoring too! ALEX The most memorable moment is when I got lost on the orienteering with Scott, Mathew and James, until we found what we were looking for, placed behind a convenient looking tree. CONNOR My memorable moment was when Jake Simper said he could only balance on one foot and then Mr Close said, That s the point of it mate, you re only supposed to balance on one foot. Then Jake said, Yea but I can t remember which foot it is. You guys might not think it s funny, but I thought it was a classic Jake Simper moment. TOBY The memorable moments would be on the 18km walk, going over the slippery rocks in the Gorge and Tiarna slipping and pulling me down with her. I also loved the view when we reached the top of the hill, seeing the ocean and all the green hills in front. It was beautiful and nothing like I ve seen before. BELLA My most memorable moments were: When Bella, Alex, Kayla and I were randomly walking and Kayla stopped and said, This place reminds me of somewhere, then she said, OMG, Lord of the Rings, and grabbed a stick and pretended it was a sword and pretended she ws in Lord of the Rings. When Bella, Alex, Kayla and got bored and started making stupid noises and singing. CIARA Page 3
4 YEAR 12 TOURISM EXCURSION The Year 12 Tourism course requires students to complete two practical assignments whereby they have to get out and about and collect primary sources of information on an issue / area of tourism. The Victor Harbor / Granite Island task is to answer the following question: So last Thursday the class left Eudunda at 7:15am (well almost 7:25! ), picked up six Nuriootpa High School students with their teacher en route and headed south. On arrival in Victor it was a tight timeline, straight into the Whale Centre for a talk on ecotourism and the whales of the area. This talk was very informative, highly relevant to the Tourism course, and we were even able to handle some whale vomit - a childhood dream of many! From the Whale Centre we walked across the walkway to Granite Island and immediately went in to see the Little Penguins which are being cared for in the Rehabilitation Centre. We then went into the theatre where we were given a talk about the history of Granite Island and the penguins, the current situation and what that means for their future. Finally, a researcher from Finders University, based on the island to research the Little Penguins, took us around the island and gave us an insight into the work being carried out. From there it was straight to Maccas for lunch, hop on the bus and the long haul back! While it was a long journey and a compact day it was a hugely worthwhile day, interesting and enjoyable. It is sad to report that there are now only 26 Little Penguins left on Granite Island as of the census taken in In 2000 there were 2,000 Little Penguins. If you are interested in learning more about either the Little Penguins or the whales in Victor Harbor you could visit these links: and A huge THANK YOU to Mr Booth for driving such a long way in order for this trip to take place. 6 PEDAL PRIX NEWS 21 years and still going strong! Sponsorship A huge thank you to the following sponsors: Individual/business Approached by Level of Sponsorship BM Livestock Benn Heinrich Silver Kevin Kleinig Cartage Benn Heinrich Silver Eudunda Hair Studio by Kate Jayden Steinborner Bronze Jane & Mikey Schulz Jack Schulz Bronze Bike-a-Thon Sunday 23rd June was a lovely wet day! Unfortunately not a good day for bike riding!!! Parents and riders assembled at Point Pass at 8:30am and it was decided it would be too wet, slippery and unsafe to ride along the dirt track to Morgan. Plan B was instigated so we headed north to the Burra Creek Gorge, hoping to find some nicer weather that would allow us to ride back to Eudunda along the main road. Alas, the rain got heaver! We decided to cancel the bike riding and headed back to the Robertstown Primary School shelter shed for lovely hot soup and fellowship. Thanks to Robertstown Primary School for allowing us to trespass! The Bike-a-thon has been re-scheduled to Sunday 11th August. This will allow riders to get some more sponsorship and for some to organize their own bikes for the ride. Another letter and consent form will be handed out soon in regards to this re-scheduled event. The Senior Team Hulkalicious The brand new sparkling trike will arrive at school by day one of Term 3, ready to be ridden by team riders who have completed 100 laps of training around the oval on their pushbikes. Ryan Harvalik completed 27 laps last Friday and 35 the Friday before. Well done Ryan! The Junior Team Crazy Bird Some team members working with Josh Schulz and I have modified the trike, painted it and it has been re-assembled and is nearly ready for test riding. Riders also need to complete 100 laps of the oval before they can ride the trike. The Staff Team Blade Runner The staff riding shoes have arrived and cleats have been fitted. Most staff have now tried out in the trike. Last Friday,` Terry Sloper completed 30 laps of the oval in the trike, riding at lunch time and after school. Some staff are planning a training ride in the holidays. Let s get serious!!
