2 2 Residents Only Let s Gather Together and Spread Some Holiday Cheer! On Friday, December 23rd, at 2:00pm, we will be spreading some Holiday cheer in the bistro and lobby area. Holiday refreshments will be served and of course some great Holiday music will be playing as we participate in a game called bring a gift get a gift. There is a $5.00 limit on the gifts. Please be sure your gift is wrapped. You can bring it to the Life Enrichment Office or bring it with you on the day of the event. It s simple, if you bring a gift you get to choose a gift. Please do not put your gift under the tree until the event time. We will have a few extra gifts for those that are not able to get out to purchase one. Holiday Events at American House Grand Rapids American House Grand Rapids will host a Holiday Gathering for you and your family on Tuesday, December 6th, at 5:00pm. Join us as we will welcome in the 2016 Holiday Season. A flyer will be posted with further information regarding the number of guests allowed. Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest On Thursday, December 22nd join us as we show off our ugly Holiday sweaters. This is lots of fun to participate in during the Holiday season. The idea is to make the ugliest Holiday sweater you possibly can by adding items to it. Holiday Photos On Monday, December 5th, at 10:00 am, we will be taking Holiday pictures for you to send to your family and friends. We ll provide the setting, cards and 5 printed photos per resident. Winter Weather Conditions This is to inform you that during the winter months American House Grand Rapids reserves the right to ground the bus when having or expecting bad weather conditions. If local schools are closed the bus is automatically grounded. Our Veterans at American House Grand Rapids We had a great turnout at both morning and afternoon events on Veterans Day. Many of you proudly displayed your patriotic colors. We recognized many of our veterans as they shared with us where they served and years of service. Residents were encouraged to walk around the room and shake hands and thank each veteran for their service. We also recognized our veterans at the 2:30 Happy Hour. We had The Silvertones here for entertainment and sang along to many of the patriotic songs they played. We invited the Fire Department in for Oren s 100th birthday. For fire hazard reasons we decided not to light 100 candles. Thank you to the firemen that are stationed directly next door to American House Grand Rapids for attending the party armed with fire extinguishers. If they are here to visit a friend or family member they need to call from the main entrance and have that person buzz them in.

Minor repairs can be done on site and anything more involved can be scheduled. They will also have accessories and parts available. Take a few minutes to get your walker, wheelchair or scooter ready for winter. Safety Reminder This is a friendly reminder not to let people in the building that you do not know. If they are here to visit a friend or family member they need to call from the main entrance and have that person buzz them in. We all need to do our part to keep prowlers out of the building. Because this is a very special occasion we would like to encourage you to come dressed up for the party. This is not required but it is an opportunity to dress in your best for a special celebration. We will be taking lots of pictures throughout the evening.

Featuring Jimmy Stewart s return to acting after serving in World War II, the movie was the first starring role for Donna Reed. He was born Pierino Como on May 18, 1912, in Canonsburg, Pa., outside of Pittsburgh. Young Como took music lessons and enjoyed singing, and later sang in a big band. In 1943, he signed his first recording contract as well as a movie contract. Como earned two Emmy Awards for The Perry Como Show, which aired weekly until the early 1960s. Among his biggest hits was the ballad Catch a Falling Star, which was awarded the first official gold record in Como s annual holiday TV specials were a beloved tradition.
