1 Volume XXXV Issue 2 February 2018 Since 1980 OROVILLE PIECEMAKERS QUILT GUILD, INC. Newsletter Editor: Jan Abramson (530) abramsonjan@gmail.com Web Site : orovillepiecemakers.org Angie Horne webmaster aphorne3@yahoo.com President s Message: What a great January meeting! I hope that everyone enjoyed our morning speaker, Sherry Werum from Woodland, as much as I did, especially Mark and Dave. I also had the pleasure attending both meetings and see that this year will be a very busy year for us. I am very excited that to announce that we have a Scholarship Committee for Thanks to the Moonlighters for taking on the challenge. I want to thank, Terri Russell, Claudia Goebl, Yvonne Ogletree, Tiffany Sasek, Ashley Coffey, and Sabrina Bell for volunteering. Our first meeting will be in February. There was a lot of excitement at both meetings with the following quilt challenges. Take a Chance Mystery Quilt Challenge, directed by Angie Horne and Nancy Clayton. Also, OPQG Quilt Show Challenge 2018 Project, Geometric Beauty on the River, directed by Claudia Goebl. It is not too late to join, give these women a call; they would love to hear from you. I hope everyone is going to the retreat and has signed up. It is our first retreat for 2018, and will be on February 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd, at Palermo Grange. If you are interested in attending, please contact Linda Pearson. The retreats are always a lot of fun, where there are plenty of laughs, and a time to get those UFOS started or completed. I hope everyone has a great month and get many projects done for the quilt boutique, community service, and beautiful quilts for our 2018 Quilt Show. Happy quilting! Jeanette Akin, Moonlighters Chair: Our new year started with much needed rain. This year will be busy getting ready for our Quilt Show in October. I hope people are busy on things for our boutique and quilts for the show. We need more Moonlighters to show their quilts. This year I am trying to get some projects started for us to do, I appreciate any ideas you may have. It is always good to see all the friendly faces at our meetings and as always the food was delicious and fantastic. I want to thank each one of you for my gift of beautiful purple hue fat quarters. PUP Challenge is a GO! Next month bring, three unfinished projects for us to choose, what your next project will be for you to complete and show at January 2019 meeting. What a great meeting, lot of projects to work on so far, all for now. Virginia Brile February Birthdays: 2/6 Terri Catt 2/6 Marta Draper 2/17 Ellen Manera 2/20 Jan Abramson 2/20 Gwen Boynton 2/20 Yvonne Ogletree 2/24 Jan Paul MISSED THEIR BIRTHDAY! 1/22 Jeanette Akin 1/23 Dale Tabor

2 February Speaker: Sherry Werum was really an inspiration with her wonderful Art Nouveau quilts, I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Our February speaker will be Eileen Milligan of Melissa and Mom. She will be doing a trunk show and talk about starting your own business for those of you who might be contemplating doing just that. Our March Speaker will be Robyn Green, formerly of Hoffman Fabrics and she will be talking about how Batiks are made. Hope to see you at our February Retreat. Sharon Helton, February Retreat: We have a great lineup of workshops for 2018 starting off with a 3-day retreat Feb 1,2,3. If you didn't get a chance to sign up it's not too late. Call me if you can so I have enough tables set up for everyone. We are having soup for lunch on Thursday with snacks and desserts. Friday, we need salads, snacks or dessert. Don't forget we have 2 sewing machines to loan for the retreat. Let me know if you need one for the retreat. Linda Pearson, March Workshop: I'm sorry to say that Lola Jenkins has had to cancel our March workshop because she is having surgery. Teri Russell is going to teach her Christmas Ornament bargello class. If you didn't get a chance to see her sample, it will be at the retreat and at February's meeting. I hope to see you at the retreat. Linda Pearson, March Materials: I am looking forward to teaching the Christmas ornament(s) wall hanging. You will need a yard of dark background and for each ornament seven 1/8 th yard pieces of fabric. the 7 pieces should range from dark to light. Fabrics with some gold in them are great as I guess silk or glitzy would work also. Also, have your batting and backing as this is a flip and sew project. There is a 3- ornament or a 1-ornament wall hanging option. Terri Russell, Block of Month, February: Day Meeting. Terry Catt, Joan Robertson, Moonlighters Lynne Pillus, Sandi Corkran, Community Service: Well, we started the year out with a bang, 30 quilts turned in, 18 of them made by Sue Gunn. Thank you to all of you that donated. We have bolts and bolts of flannel for backings, plus fabric for tops and batting. Come pick fabric up at the retreat and get sewing. Remember turn your quilts in early so you can concentrate on your show quilts. Call if you have any questions. Jan Owens, Dottie Elliott, Peggy Fehrman, Door Prizes: Thanks to everybody who bought tickets for the door prizes we brought in $71. Next month the mystery will have brand-new items value of $20 -$25 dollars. Your donations are always appreciated. Cheryl Campbell, Betty Drake, Moonlighters: We had 4 door prizes. The Mystery door prize was a cute carrying bag, batting for full size bed, 2 yards of pretty quilt print fabric. We made $77. Pat Woodruff, Susan McMillan,

Any questions call Ann Harvey, Mercantile: The mercantile table did a good business this month. Thank you for your purchases. We have a good collection of fat quarters and some larger pieces, but more is always welcome. It appears that we have a few items that are simply not going to sell, so there will be some housecleaning done during the retreat in February. We welcome items that you wish to sell, if they are clearly priced and identified. Also, be sure to include a list with prices of your items, so that we can easily track any sales. In future, I hope to have all items clearly marked as to price. There may be a box of items marked make an offer, and there may be one marked free to a good home. Be sure that whatever you wish to donate is in a bag or box and clearly labeled if it is a donation, plus your name. I would like to know who to thank for the donations that can magically show up. Dorothy Welton, Cheryl Cox, Opportunity Quilt Tickets: The 2018 Quilt is at the quilter s but we have tickets already. Stop by the front table and pick up your tickets at the next meeting. We hope to have the quilt on display in February. Remember each member is asked to buy $15.00 in tickets each year. You may keep them, give them away or sell them to friends and family. Nancy Clayton,

4 Quilt Show: As a reminder, our quilt show will be October 27 & 28 of this year, I hope everyone is planning on entering something.
