1 All Saints College JUNIOR SCHOOL VIM Issue 6 Thursday, March Sport Commitments Hopefully we will not be rained out again for Saturday sport. I would like to remind everyone of the importance of staying committed to your chosen sport for the entire season. This means letting your coach know if you are going to be away from training or the match. Our coaches, of who many are volunteers, do a terrific job and deserve to be told in advance of any absences. Birthday invitations Unless every child in the class is being invited, invitations to birthday parties are not to be handed out in class to be put in child s diaries. As you can imagine, situations such as this can be very upsetting for children who feel left out. I suggest invitations are mailed or From the Head of Junior School Mr Chris Jackman handed out privately and not in public in front of all the children in the class. Junior School Assemblies All parents are welcome to attend Junior School assemblies. In the warmer months they are conducted on the Outdoor Assembly area and during the colder months we move into the Performing Arts Centre. Assemblies begin at 9.00am. Run by the Cancer Council, Relay for Life is an 18 hour outdoor overnight fundraising event that aims to raise money to help those fighting cancer. We are looking for the All Saint s Community to support us in this worthwhile fundraising venture. There are 3 ways you can do this: 1) Go online to and donate to the All Saints College team ; 2) Provide our team with items they can sell over the weekend, such as cakes; lollies, jellies, etc., to help raise money; and CHECK OUT THE LATEST NEWS & PHOTO GALLERIES AT 3) Donate your time by joining the team and helping us walk through Saturday afternoon into the night and Sunday morning. Any support you can give us would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions about how you can help or if you would like to join the team, please contact Sophie Hanigan at sophie.hanigan@saints.nsw.edu.au Junior School students may walk in the Relay for Life overnight, but they will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. All Saints College After School Care All Saints College After School Care (ASC) operates five days a week during school term from 3.15pm -6.00pm. It is open to all children in the Junior School. 2 Drs Charlotte and Patrick worked wonders on the babies this morning PRE-KINDERGARTEN News This week we have introduced our first letter. S. Pre-K 2 swung with scarves, did a Silly Sausage Dance, made playdough sausages, were s detectives finding s words and read stories all reinforcing the s sound. On Thursday Pre-K 2 and 5 went to the Town Library for Storytime. It was very exciting for the children to all have a turn on the bus. We have been making and finding rectangles in our classroom and discovered the colour orange is made by mixing red and yellow paint. We layered crayons on leaf rubbings to make them look like autumn leaves. We also had Christian Studies with Father Tony, Music with Ms Sargeant and Library with Mrs Wells. What a sensational, super week. Anneque and Alexia matched the right number of peg legs to the animals. This activity helps to make our fingers strong for writing. Fraser, Sieanna and Jade made beautiful orenji biscuits. Riley and Tom are great friends. Anna, Isabel, Natalie and Tom squish, squash, squelch, squeeze, splat and shape our orenji playdough into a snake to make the letter...and The Yr 6 iceblock fundraiser were on the same day we loaded them right up... sorry! :) One of the best things we can do for our child s learning is to limit the amount of sugar in their diet. Therefore when Mrs Parkinson and Miss Julia had a birthday over the weekend Emily, Ruby, Abbey, Anneque and Jade made fantastic rectangles.

3 From the Chaplain Rev. Tony Card...this son of mine was dead and has come back to life! He was lost and is found! (Luke 15:24, CEV) Many would be familiar with the story of the Prodigal Son. It s a story of a young man who asks his father for his inheritance whilst the father is still alive so that he can do what he wants with it now. I suppose he had grand plans of using the money to establish himself in business or farming so that he would have a great fortune when he was old. Instead he squandered his money on a life of partying and found himself broke and homeless. He decided to return to his father to ask him for a job as a hired hand. His father responded in a way that surprised everyone; he welcomed his son with open arms, calling his family to a great celebration. We can see the fathers joy expressed in his words above. This story has great significance for those of us, including me, who came to faith later in life, for it is a story of God s forgiveness which is offered to us through Jesus Christ. It does not matter what we have done, where we have been or who we have been with, God will welcome us back with open arms. Jesus restores us. There is great rejoicing in heaven! The was swimming carnival was held on February the 26th.the swim team travelled to Kinross to compete against Scots,Orange Anglican Grammar, Blue Mountains Grammar and Kinross. A big thankyou to Mrs Nelson, Mr Jackman, and the gappies Zac and Dan who accompanied us on the trip. Everyone tried their best and we are looking forward to H.I.C.E.S in Homebush. We would also like to thank all of the parents who came along to cheer us on. Everyone had a fantastic time and we are ready to go to Homebush next week and compete against bigger city schools. I know that this was a common thought among the inmates that I ministered to in Bathurst gaol. The truth is that it is never too late. God s forgiveness is there for all who turn to him. May you turn to him today. God bless you, Rev. Tony Card. Thought for the week: I m convinced that nothing can separate us from God s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers 39 or height or depth, or any other thing that is created. 4 2013 FESTIVAL OF ART COMMITTEE For something a little different this year we are introducing a new section... PRE LOVED ART FOR SALE This is a great way for parents and friends of ASC to sell... any unwanted art! As tastes and decor change, I m sure a lot of people have a few paintings that are not hanging in their homes anymore or like a few of us... sitting in a cupboard... So, why not let someone else enjoy them? Only genuine paintings accepted - no prints For more information Maggie de Vries: m

5 Equestrian Team bring home ribbons from State Interschool Championships Last week Jakiya Whitfeld, Isabel Hamer and Millicent Cupples represented All Saints at the Equestrian Australia State Interschool Championships in Sydney. This huge event with over 500 competitors from schools all over the state, took place at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre where the 2000 Olympics Equestrian events were held. It was a wonderful couple of days for the girls and a fantastic experience riding at an International venue for the first time. Having the support of the Senior School Equestrian Team Members helped calm any initial nerves and the girls all went on to achieve some outstanding results in their chosen disciplines. They should all be very proud of their achievements and the way they conducted themselves throughout the event. They looked magnificent in their uniforms and were a credit to the school. It was great to see super keen Megan Redpath there to support her fellow riders even though she wasn t riding herself. We look forward to having Megan compete there next year. A huge thank you to team Coordinator Nicole Stockman who put countless hours in organising girls, horses, volunteers, and going to team manager meetings over the four days, not to mention putting in a marathon volunteer shift herself in the cold and rain on Saturday at the show jumping. Results Isabel Hamer: 2nd Junior 60cm Eventing, 5th Junior A2 Showjumping and 6th Junior AM7 Showjumping Jakiya Whitfeld: 6th Combined Training 60cm Junior Millicent Cupples: 6th Place Pas de Deux Vaulting Competition, 1st in Squad Vaulting.

6 Equestrian State Championships Last week ten members of the Senior School equestrian team, along with three junior members travelled to the Sydney International Equestrian Centre to compete at the State Interschool Championships. With over 500 riders from schools all over NSW vying for State Titles and a spot on the Nationals Team, it proved to be an exciting week with a very high standard of competition. Depending on what events the girls were contesting, some were there for the entire five days, others for one or two. The competition began on Thursday with the Eventing and Combined Training Competitions, followed on Friday with the Show Riding, and Saturday and Sunday saw the Dressage and Showjumping events bring the week to a close. With too many results to list individually, here are the rider s best results from the competition: Mollie Gorman & Scarlett: 1 st 80cm 2 Phase Showjumping, 1 st 80cm A2 Showjumping Lyndsay Menzies & Denis: 2 nd Senior Prelim 95cm Eventing Sophie Stockman & Inky: 9 th Senior Pre- Novice 1.05 metre Eventing Sarah Farraway & Wisdom & Bundy: 2 nd Prix St George Dressage, 1 st 3D Dressage, 1 st 3C Dressage, 1 st 2B Dressage, 1 st 2D Dressage Skye Ramsay & Cobalt: 13 th Senior Prelim 95cm Eventing Catie Crampton & Amigo: 5 th 80cm Intermediate Combined Training Libby Crampton & Sammy: Competed 60cm Intermediate Combined Training Amber Stockman & Simba: 1 st Place 95cm Intermediate Prelim Eventing Madi Sinderberry & Leroy & Sam: 2 X 2 nd place finishes in the 1.10m and 1.20m Showjumping Maddison Harley & Gem: 1 st 2 Phase 80cm Showjumping The girls are to be congratulated on how they conducted themselves over the course of the event, at times under horrendous weather conditions. They all showed great sportsmanship and horsemanship and not to mention that they all looked outstanding in their uniforms. The team are now preparing for the upcoming Scots School Showjumping Day on the 17 th March.
