1 Musselman Homecoming Fall Spirit Week September 28 th - October 2 nd -Fall Sports/Activities:- Football, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Golf, Cheerleading, Marching Band, Cross Country, Volleyball, Color Guard
2 Objective To encourage all students to show their spirit this week using the theme State Week based on 4 states in the USA. During this week, classes will compete in dress-up day participation, morning competitions, pep rally competitions, fundraising competitions, and showcases. At the end of the week, the winning class will receive the Spirit Stick! On Friday, October 2 nd, all Applemen will come together in the pep rally and show their unity and school spirit. Have fun and enjoy the week while remembering to follow all school rules. Guidelines & Rules -Students are only allowed to work on activities before and after school. Any class working on activities during class time will be disqualified for that competition. -Faculty supervision is required for activities before and after school hours. -Class presidents will receive a sign-up sheet for all competitions. -Each student should ONLY participate in one class competition; we want to encourage as much participation by as many students as possible. -Face paint or hair coloring MUST be applied before entering the school. -ALL school rules apply unless otherwise stated for that day. Showcases All class showcases for spirit week will be displaying the different dress up days and the Applemen spirit. Each class will compete in creating the best showcase. There are tons of ideas out there; be creative and use your imagination! Do not decorate hallways!!! Showcases are to be worked on before and after school ONLY, and a class sponsor must be present. All showcases MUST be completed by 3:00 PM on Monday, September 28th. A class WILL be disqualified if found to be working on the showcases after this time! The showcases have been randomly distributed between each class to represent a different dress up day. Showcases must be disassembled by October 12th or they will be trashed. Apple Pie Baking Contest (Class Competition) Each class will be allowed to submit 3 pies. Presidents are in charge of determining who will make the pies. Pies are due in Mrs. Branch s room (204) by 7:35 AM, Wednesday, September 30 th. They will be judged on appearance and taste. The pie winners will get spirit points for their class. Bonfire Student Council will be holding a bonfire on Thursday, October 1 st, from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM in the gravel parking lot behind the football field. All students are encouraged to come have a good time and roast some s mores while cheering on the football team with the band and the cheerleaders as they prepare for Friday night's game! Homecoming Court will be recognized. We will also be selling water for $1. Points Each class competition is worth 4, 3, 2 or 1 point(s) (4pts for 1 st place). There is a running total posted by Mrs. Branch s room (204). The points are obtained by competitions throughout the week and completed at the pep assembly. The class with the most points wins the Spirit Week!
3 Rules: No masks/concealed faces, trench coats, bikinis, or pajamas please! Monday, October 6 th : West Virginia Day Teachers: Students must be dressed in at least 2 items that pertain to something West Virginia, such as a WV college shirt, a mountaineer, Daniel Boone, a black bear, a cardinal, a coal miner, in camo, etc. Tuesday, October 7 th : Hawaii Day Teachers: Students must be dressed in at least 2 items that are relative to Hawaii. Ideas include: snorkeling gear, a volcano, a rainbow, a surfer, a Hula skirt, a fish, floral shirts, etc. NO BATHING SUITS Wednesday, October 8 th : Texas Day Teachers: All students must be dressed in at least 2 items that represent Texas, such as flannels, cowboy boots, a cow, a horse, a bull rider, a rodeo clown, a bull, cowboy hat, etc. Thursday, October 9 th : Alaska Day Teachers: Students must wear at least 2 items that represent Alaska, such as a parka, a penguin, a husky, a polar bear, dog sledder, a snowman, snow boots, etc. Friday, October 4 th : SPIRIT FRIDAY Teachers: All students must be dressed in their Musselman Applemen green, white, or red attire. Many of you will be sporting your class shirts that were made. Everything must be covered and appropriate. ALL SCHOOL RULES STILL APPLY! Let s go Applemen!
4 7:15 am to 7:30 am (Late participants will be disqualified; PLEASE BE ON TIME) Monday: The Golden Horseshoe Test Each class will have one contestant. They will have to fill out a West Virginia Trivia card. The contestant with the most correct answers wins! Tuesday: Beach Ball Volley Each class will have two contestants. Each pair will have to hit the beach ball back and forth. Whichever pair keeps the ball in the air the longest wins! Wednesday: Pin the Tail on the Donkey Each class will have one contestant. The contestant will be blind folded and spun around and will try to pin the tail on the donkey. The contestant closest to the tail wins! Thursday: Snow Blower Each class will have one contestant. They will be given a straw. When we say go, the contestant will have to blow in the straw, and guide a ping pong ball into the plastic cup taped to the end of the table. If the ball rolls off the table, the contestant will be given another ball and must start over. The first class to blow their ball into the cup wins! *Students must sign up with their class President to participate in any game!!!!!!
5 Pep Assembly Dismissal Road Trip Fall 2015 Procedures for Friday, October 2nd: 1:00 Students from C lunch report to 5 th period. 1:05 Students in 5 th period for 5 minutes; Fall athletes report to cafeteria. 1:10 Students dismissed to gym by class. (Teachers/Coaches take attendance in case of emergency, you are responsible for them from this point. Please review your emergency manual on Assemblies.) 1:20 Pep Assembly begins. Athletes will come in to the Fight Song, EVERYONE, PLEASE STAND!!! (Athletes will sit in the first three rows of their respective classes, due to a lack of space.) Staffulty please help Leadership keep the first three rows clear. Teachers, please be with your classes in the bleachers. Please encourage students to participate and have fun! Remind students to leave the 1st three bleachers clear for the athletes.
6 Pep Rally Games Relay Race Each class will have 4 contestants. Contestant 1 will have to ride the bike to the second station. Once there, contestant 2 will put on the helicopter hat and get inside the wagon, while the person pulls them to the third station. Once contestant 2 gets to the third station, the 3 rd person will pick up the football, the volleyball, the soccer ball, or the golf club and must get it to the 4 th station by kicking the soccer ball, serving the volleyball, driving the golf ball, and throwing the football. Once the 4 th person catches the football, they must put on the grass skirt, and hula hoop to the last station. The class that makes it to the finish line first wins! Tug O War Each class will have 10 contestants (5 male, 5 female). Contestants must line up strategically down the rope and on the count of 3, they will pull as hard as they can. If the opposing teams flag crosses the line, your class wins. The two 1 st round winners then face off, and the two 1 st round losers face off, determining the standings. Cowboy Hat Toss Each class will have two contestants. The first contestant will have to try to throw the cowboy hats onto the stick, like a ring toss. The second contestant will take those hats and do the same after the first contestant has thrown their 2 hats. This process will repeat and after two minutes, the class that had the most hats on the target wins! Snowball Toss Each class will have two contestants. The first contestant will hold the tin bucket on their head, and the other will have to throw paper balls into the bucket. After all 20 paper balls have been thrown, leadership will count whose class has the most snow balls in their bucket. Class with the most snow balls wins! Needle in a Haystack Each class will have one contestant. The contestant will have to find a straw in a pile of hay. The first person to find their straw wins! Road Trip Spelling Bee Each class will have 4 contestants. Each class will be given a word that represents a thing from each state: Texas, Alaska, West Virginia, and Hawaii. The contestants will be given letters and they must spell the given word. Whichever class spells all the words the fastest, and correctly, wins! Class Dance Each class will have 10 students representing them in a class dance. The group must consist of at least 4 boys. Each class will perform their dance during the pep rally to a song given to them by their class presidents. We are banning unsupported mounts, flips, or anything where someone is thrown into the air. If someone does go in the air, you must have a minimum of 3 spotters. Your dance must be approved by Mrs. Branch before Friday, October 2 nd in the small gym. If you are late, you will be disqualified. Below are the times each class dance participants must meet in the gym Friday morning to show Mrs. Branch their dance. United Bank & community representatives will judge the dances. Students will have to make up their own unique routine. The judges will choose 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd, and 4 th place. 7:05 Seniors 7:10 Juniors 7:15 Sophomores 7:20 Freshmen
7 Showcases Each class will have one of the spirit day themes assigned to them on how to decorate their showcase. They need to be completed a week before on the morning of October 3 rd so that we can enjoy them for the entire spirit week. They will be judged before school on October 2 nd by the staffulty. Assignments: Freshmen: West Virginia Sophomores: Hawaii Juniors: Texas Seniors: Alaska Relay For Life Feet The Relay for Life Club will be selling feet September 28 th - October 2 nd, during all lunches! Feet will be $1, and the class that sells the most feet will win spirit points! These proceeds will go to the cancer research foundation. Spirit Pom Poms Musselman Student Council will be selling white & green pom poms September 28 th - October 1 nd during all lunches in the concession stand. Pom Poms will be $2 each, or two for $3. The class that sells the most will win spirit points!!!
8 Dress-Up Tally Sheets During 4 th period, Monday through Friday, each 4 th period teacher will tally his or her own class s participation. Tallies need to be torn off and returned to Mrs. Branch (room 204) BY THE BEGINNING OF 5 th PERIOD because totals will be calculated immediately! 9 Apple Pie Baking Contest Class Competition Fall 2015 Hey students, want to support your class and help them take a step towards winning the stick!? Well, here s your chance! All you have to do is make an All-American Apple Pie. (Only 3 pies allowed per class, so be sure to talk to your class president. They must sign you up!) *Due to Mrs. Branch s room (204) Wednesday, September 30 th before 7:30 AM. Please use a disposable pan, or remember to label (with your name) and to come get your pie pan the same day at 5th period.
10 ATTENTION TEACHERS! We are continuing the tradition of Mr. And Miss Pep this year and we are leaving it up to you. During Spirit Week, please select one male and one female from your class who you think is the most spirited. Be sure to pay attention all week long in the hallways, in your classes, and at extra curricular activities. You are highly qualified as Applemen, and we ask you to provide us with these votes. Make sure you turn your ballots in by 4 th period on Thursday, October 2 nd to Mrs. Branch in room 204.
