A Word from the Club C.E.O. June 2015 To those members who were not at the Annual General Meeting, I would like to highlight some aspects of my report which may interest members: 1.

1 A Word from the Club C.E.O. June 2015 To those members who were not at the Annual General Meeting, I would like to highlight some aspects of my report which may interest members: 1. The Management Board gained permission from Council to install Solar Panels to the clubrooms. A 20KW (80 panel) system was installed at a cost of $25,928. This was done on a 4 year Lease/ Purchase basis with residual value at expiry. We had to pay $5000 up front, but will be reimbursed by the Council upon completion of the purchase. This system has already achieved cheaper, cleaner electricity from the date of commission. Savings in electricity charges have already partly offset the regular lease payments. Savings in electricity charges after the 4 year lease has expired will carry no cost to the club; in the first 10 years of its operation, we should expect to see a net return of $90,000 plus on the investment. 2. The club was invited, by the Council, to put a joint submission to the Federal Government for Community Energy Efficient Funding. Approval saw approx $90,000 allocated for energy efficient building upgrades. These upgrading works resulted in: Four new and more efficient gas heaters Replacing all fluro/downlights with TS lamps and fluro fittings, and replacing halogen lights with LEDs New blinds and insulating film on all southern windows both dining & lounge areas. I ve got more out of bowls and bowls clubs than I ever imagined, so I ve tried to put as much back in as I can by helping out on committees and other such tasks. This is the very reason I m grateful for my position as Chairperson of the Bowls Committee but it s also the reason I was disappointed that we had to go to the last AGM with a lack of nominations for the committee positions and in particular no nomination for Tournament Director. The sentiment behind the quote and my belief in it might be old fashioned and I realize lifestyles have changed a lot since then but one thing hasn t changed and that is clubs still need volunteers to do these jobs if they are to survive. However since the AGM we have been able to fill all the positions on the Bowls Committee; Peter Graham has volunteered to move from Committee Member to Tournament Director and Page 2 Pat & Trevor Moffat has come aboard taking the vacant Committee Member positions. I am extremely grateful to those people who have joined committee for the first time as well as those who rejoined the committee from last season. Last season was a good one in many ways and the Bowls Committee has a lot of work to do in the coming months to prepare for the 2015/16 season because we expect it to be an even better one. We start in earnest with the Discussion Day where we let you in on our plans and get your views on how you want the upcoming bowls season to be run. We ll want your views on Club Tournaments, Social Tournaments, Pennant Teams & Selection, ideas on attracting new members and a whole range of other topics. Then we set about putting all those plans into action and hopefully making the 2015/16 season an enjoyable and successful one for all of us. David Bailey

Patricia Moffat Winter Bowls Report Winter Bowls Report Both our Winter Bowls days are going well with numbers on both days pretty reasonable (we could always do with more entries). Many thanks to Mary Grantham, John Davies & Peter Graham who are the mainstays in charge of these days. Thanks also to helpers in the kitchen, bar and raffle sellers. We recently changed the format with a highest 1 game winner prize replacing the old winner of the losers. This seems to be appreciated by the entrants. Page 3

Jumbo Garage Sale At various times throughout the off-season (May-Sep) we will host students from: Prescott College, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College and, Roma Mitchell Secondary College, who will be attending coaching sessions at the Clearview as part of their physical education classes. Bob s neighbour knocked on his door at 2:30am this morning, can you believe that, 2:30am?! Luckily for him Bob was still up playing his Bagpipes. As a major fundraiser the club is again holding a Garage Sale. This will be on Sunday June 14 th from 8am to 2pm. W e w o u l d v e r y m u c h appreciate members donating any pre-loved, unused, saleable items that you can. You can arrange storage of these items with Leon Harder and if necessary we can arrange to collect items from your home. Volunteers on the day will also be needed so do not be surprised if you get a tap on the shoulder. Page 4

The record stood somewhere around the mid 600s and Chris has surpassed that, with Clearview being the 764 th club he has visited. To break the record he has to play a 10 end singles match against a club member and have a marker and a witness. David Bailey played Chris (& won) while Leon Harder was the marker with Bev Cushion witnessing. Chris has another objective on his bowls journey; he is raising money for Cancer Research. Be responsible for the induction of all new and prospective members to the Clearview Bowling Club. 3. Promote Open Gender Bowling within the Clearview Bowling Club. 4. Provide a high quality of Public Relations with members and Visitors at all times. 5. Assist the Club Coaches in the coordination of the Clubs Coaching Programmes. 6. 6 Allan Fisher, Life Member The Management Board has approved the nomination of Allan Fisher as a Life Member. Allan has been a constantly active member of the Club since joining, initially as a player in the top team, then serving in the following positions: Bowls Committee - Chairman of Selectors from 2005 to 2015 (10 Years) Club Development Officer, 2009 to 2015, responsible for finding and encouraging new and prospective players and associate members, and their induction and inclusion in Club programs. Management Board - Vice President, 2009 to 2013 (4 Years) Greens Maintenance Team to 2013 (4 Years) Since joining, Allan has shown himself to be very diligent and conscientious in all aspects of these roles. His dedication, especially during his time as Chairman of Selectors has been very much appreciated by all Club members. Unfortunately, his illness has prevented him from completing his duties in the past season, and his expertise and professionalism sorely missed. We believe that Allan thoroughly deserves this recognition. It is my privilege to move that Allan Fisher be rewarded by receiving Honorary Life Membership of the Club. This proposition has been seconded by Life Member Rick Smith. Page 6 Page 7

7 Our annual Discussion Day leading into the 2015/16 season will be held on Sunday 5 th. July at 10am. The Bowls Committee have a lot of preparation work to be done before the season starts and will need your input into some important issues before final decisions are made and plans put in place. Page 7 Discussion Day So please do your best to come along and have your say. 2014/15 Pennant Badges The CEO has ordered and now received the Pennant Badges from last season and they will be presented to members of the Saturday Metro 3 East & Wednesday Metro 3 North sides during the Discussion Day. Last year SA Water advised us that the discharge of trade waste from A Word from the Club C.E.O. the club requires a Trade Waste Permit and due to food preparation and washing requirements on the premises, the installation of a Grease Arrester is necessary. Requests to Council to fund the project and protesting the expenditure to various government heads saw us receive a 12 month extension in time to meet the requirement. This extension expires in June. The cost to install the Grease Arrester is $13,970 which puts our finances under considerable strain for 2015/16 Ian Bailey C.E.O. Page 8
