1 NOTTINGHAM INDOOR BOWLS DECEMBER NEWSLETTER Bernies Christmas Fun Night Sat 19th December Fun Bowls - Quiz Bingo ( Sticky Thirteen Cards ) Christmas Dinners From Sat 5th Dec - 13th Dec. Price 10 Dave has informed Julie that the Kitchen will be serving Christmas Dinners during the above dates HI All December Newsletter already, time really seems to have flown by since the start of the season. Any Bowlers wishing to join the Club Lottery Syndicate the cost of this will be 10 per share, each share will run for 26 weeks from 09/12/2015 to 01/06/2016 See Julie White for the lottery application form and information at the reception desk. Membership now stands at 522 and Ted informs us that the Bowls Courses are still doing well which can only be good news for the club. Any members who feel they can donate reading books they do not require any longer, we would be pleased to put them in our Club Bookcase. These are then sold on for a minimal fee which goes into the Club Funds. With the amount of newcomers to bowls, Members who have Bowls Equipment they would like to sell can advertise their items on the club notice board near the Reception Desk. Please see Julie White 1

2 This next suggestion has not been requested by the Kitchen but by the Club Committee. It would be of a great help to the kitchen if Players would return their cups and trays that have been delivered to the rinks and surrounding areas during matches, this would really help out the kitchen staff during the late morning while they are busy preparing dinners before the morning matches finish, Thank You. CHAIRMANS CORNER As Roger indicated in the last newsletter, he intended to retire from the chair of the council. He did retire in October and the council elected myself as his replacement. On behalf of all the members of the club I would like to thank Roger for his many years of unstinting hard work on our behalf. He will remain as a member of the Council so I will be able to draw on his vast experience. Our immediate objective is to complete negotiations with the City Council to reduce our financial commitment to them, which is currently over 40,000 p.a. and which is due for a review. ( for review read increase!). If successful this would enable us to use our existing resources for our benefit rather than merely keeping the club afloat. Despite losing a higher than normal number of members this year, our recruiting campaign has once again kept our numbers well above 500, the final figure will be in the region of 520. Congratulations and good luck to the following players, Thomas Doig who has a men's senior International trial on Sunday 6th December at Northampton also to Elisa Griffin who has a ladies Senior International Trial and Jackie Turner who is reserve at the trial, on Sunday 13th December at Erewash Bowling Club. I would like to bring to your attention our own Club Bowls Days. Availability to play sheets on Both Notice Boards. Captains v Presidents Day Sunday 13th December 2pm Start Followed by a Meal in the Restaurant At present there are between 30 and 40 names down, Ideally this number would be 64 with 8 rinks being played so please put your name down for this match. Ladies Gala Day Wednesday 17th 2.30 pm Followed by a Meal in the Restaurant Come on Ladies lets have those names down for your Gala Day it would be nice to have all Ladies Rinks and no Men in skirts, Ladies wear something RED on the day. Entries are still required for the 2 Wood Open Pairs Sets Competition Closing Date 31st December

5 The Top Club Competition was played at the Indoor on Wed 25th Nov which again finished with another good result for Nottingham. Nottingham 12 v 4 Charnwood Indoor Bowls Tour To Norfolk An early start for the Indoor Bowls Tour to Norfolk with the bus leaving from the indoor at Quite a good journey down to Norwich with Ann and Tony our Tour Organisers pictured with our Winning Rink Mascot Little John who was substituting for Robin the Mascot who missed the bus and will be fined. Ann and Tony kept the bus in order, Tony had a great quiz which provided us with plenty of laughs and good banter mainly from a certain Mr Hilton. On arrival for our first match at Norfolk Bowling Club we started with a buffet, that was our first mistake the second was taking our bowls out of the bags. ( sorry Ann only joking). The match was played with good humour but at the same time competitive and this applied to all 3 matches. Winning Rink Paul Fowler - Judi Fowler - Bob Coombes - Terry Ellis Saturday Shopping in Norwich, Ann kindly restricted how long the Ladies had at the shops which saved the men some money.we then set off for our 2nd match at North Walsham Bowling Club. W/ Rink Dave Ashbridge-Bob Coombes-Bernie Saunders-Pam Milton Sunday started by going into Norwich for the Remberance Sunday Parade and laying of the wreaths with to two of our members Eric Boon and Bob Coombes marching proudly in the Military Parade. 7 For those that were not on the bowls tour to Norfolk It was a pleasure to meet Scott Vallance and his Guide Dog Benji at our second match at North Waltham Bowling Club, Scott who has visually impaired sight will be visiting Nottingham Indoor Bowling Club 20th-21st February 2016 to play in the VIBE Indoor Pairs. Scott and his friend Westley Walker are currently raising funds for Guide Dogs, each guide dog will cost the Charity 48,500. Westley is running the 2016 Virgin London Marathon raising money for Guide Dogs because they can alter peoples lives so much and give them the independence to do so much more.
