Member of the Month HANK ELCHERT Hank is a familiar face in our community and beyond. His life has been quite interesting Married Pat (Keefe) July 5, 1969 right after he finished college. Graduating from Ohio State with his Bachelors and Masters in Education. Hank then went on to graduate with a degree in Education Specialist from the University of Toledo. Hank and Pat have two children, Connie and Rodney, along with three grandchildren. While speaking to Hank I could certainly tell that he is a very proud father and grandpa! Hank has had a very interesting professional life. In 1969 he was an Agricultural Teacher in Allen Co., and then a farmer for the next 8 yrs. In 1985 he became a Farm Mgmt. and Computer Accountant teacher at Sentinel Career Center, and in 1990 he became a Special Needs teacher for Landscaping and Design class and taught Horticulture. For the next 5 years he was the Assistant Principal and then he became the Principal for the next 10 years. Once Hank retired he was asked to be the Superintendent at Calvert and accepted the challenge. In his time at Calvert, enrollment increased 6 years in a row. He said it wouldn t have happened without the help from the great staff. Hank s history with the Allen Eiry Center: His mother used to come here and play cards and she loved it. Once Hank s wife Pat became a member, he started to come to AEC along with her and he really enjoyed it. The people are nice here and Nice people attract nice people, he said. Pat and Hank enjoy going on trips with AEC and cooking. He loves a challenge like cooking the meatloaf dinner at AEC in February! During Hank s free time he really enjoys fishing and spending time at their boathouse in Sandusky. Hank is a very gentle and kind caring man. I am so glad I was able to get to know him a little better! I told him that he has had a wonderful life and he responded by telling me that he wouldn t have been able to do it all without his wife. She is his angel, and God has been good to him! Submitted by: Breanna Beard, AEC Secretary
