Life Line Screening will be coming to the Allen Eiry Center Wednesday, May 10, Available testings are: Carotid Artery, Heart Rhythm Screening, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening, Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening and Osteoporosis Risk Assessment. APRIL FUSED GLASS CLASSES Friday, April 1:00PM and/or Monday, April 1:00PM AEC GOLF LEAGUE will begin Thursday, May 9:30AM. We will be golfing at Seneca Hills Golf Course. This is a co-ed league and you need to be at least 50 years of age to participate. The cost for the season is $15.00 (to be paid to AEC) along with your weekly green fees (which will be paid at the golf course). This league is not competitive, the golfers are out to have a good time golfing. Our project for April will be Painted Decal Plant Stakes. Fused glass classes are lead by Mary Welsch and Becky Brown. We assure you will have a fun time in fused glass! The cost per class is $ Each class is limited to 8 participants. Registration is required. The AEC Board of Trustees and Staff would like to send a very special thank you to both Hank Elchert and Larry Baker for a delicious meatloaf supper in March. These gentlemen spent 4 full days in the kitchen preparing for the meal. Several additional volunteers helped cut vegetables, set up for the meal, serve food and drinks, clean off tables, wash dishes and pans, sell 50/50 and take tickets followed by cleaning up from the event. We could not survive and be able to offer so much for our members if we did not have fundraisers. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED WITH THE MEAL IN ANY WAY!! THANKS TO ALL WHO SUPPORTED THE EVENT! Allen Eiry Center News April 17, 2017 May 22, 2017 GOOD BYE TO A WONDERFUL PERSON AND GREAT LEADER/VOLUNTEER When Susan Crumrine retired from Tiffin City Schools as a Physical Education teacher, the Allen Eiry Center was very blessed to welcome a great person with many talents and willing to share those talents. Susan has been an active Board Member of AEC for the past four years. She has also given countless fitness center orientations since the day we opened the fitness center which was May of Susan took over the responsibilities as chairperson of the Ways & Means Committee (special events/ fundraisers) in 2013 spending hundreds of hours planning, preparing and working MANY events and raising over $22,000 in 2016 for AEC. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING SUSAN! YOU WILL BE GREATLY MISSED! Usually the group votes on the music but to honor Fred, they asked him to choose. It will be a great evening as he hands the baton over to a new 24 year old conductor. Featured this year is the Crossroads Quartet who won the 2009 Barbershop Harmony Society International Championship. We will also attend the after glow party, which includes more singing with a lunch: a choice of chicken, ham, or sloppy joe sandwiches, chips, cookie, cold salad and beverage. In 1927 Ralph Peer, a record producer with the Victor Talking Machine Company, set up a temporary music studio. Over the next 12 days he recorded songs by 19 artists, including Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter family. These recordings launched the country music industry. In 1998 the United States Congress recognized Bristol as The Birthplace of Country Music. We will be staying in the Abingdon & Bristol area touring many things including the The Birthplace of Country Music Museum. In harmony with the music is the driving sound of race engines. Bristol is home of the World s Fastest Half-mile Bristol Motor Speedway, NASCAR s most popular track, as well as Bristol Drag way. We will be going to the speedway, downtown Bristol and much more. This is a special event, only on this date. Come join us! One highlight of this tour, is an evening with Grammy Winning Songwriter Richard Leigh, his friends and their music. This is an intimate evening with members of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Filled with stories, songs, laughter and memories. These songwriters have written for Ray Charles, Connie Frances, George Jones and Tammy Wynette, the Dixie Chicks, Anne Murray and Perry Como to name a few. 5 P AV E R S & B R I C K S AEC TRAVEL GUIDELINES Each spring we give our members and friends the opportunity to purchase a Paver or Brick to be placed in our main entrance at the Allen Eiry Center. Last fall there were many pavers and bricks that were engraved and added to our beautiful entrance way. All members have the opportunity to register for NEW trips on the date published in the AEC newsletter. You then have 10 days to pay for the trip (unless otherwise noted in the newsletter for that specific trip). Pavers cost $ You are allowed up to 4 lines with a total of 15 characters on each line (this includes spaces.) Pavers are 8 x 8. Bricks are $50.00 each. You are allowed up to 3 lines with a total of 15 characters in each line (this includes spaces.) Bricks are 4 x 8. Ordering forms for the Pavers and Bricks are available at the AEC. The deadline for 2017 spring paver/brick order is May 1st. Although you can order a paver/brick at any time throughout the year, if you get your order to us by May 1st, you are guaranteed that your paver/brick will be put in place during the summer of If you decide to cancel your reservation, we will start calling people on the waiting list to fill your spot (if there is a waiting list). If a person fills your spot, you will be given a credit after your replacement has paid for the trip. This credit may be used for future travel. If there is not a waiting list or we can not fill your spot, you will not receive a credit. Non-members may sign up for a trip with a member four days after member register for NEW trips.
