2 FROM THE RECTOR S DESK The proposed 2019 increase in fees was passed by the parents at the annual Budget Approval Meeting which was held on Tuesday 6 November. Geluk aan al ons akademiese-, kulturele- en sportpryswenners. Dankie aan al ons ouers vir julle teenwoordigheid en ondersteuning tydens ons Prysuitdeling en Z-dagseremonie. Ons wil ons ouers bedank vir hulle volgehoue belangstelling en steun. Dit word opreg waardeer. Geluk aan almal wat hulle beste gelewer het in die eksamen. Ek glo julle sal bly wees oor julle uitslae wanneer julle julle rapporte ontvang. I want to encourage especially those of you who did not fare too well, to tackle your work next year with earnest and renewed diligence. Met die nuwe evalueringstelsel word akademiese druk nie net gedurende die eksamen nie, maar regdeur die jaar beleef as gevolg van skoolgerigte assessering. Term 1 for learners starts on WEDNESDAY 9 January. Ons begin met Week 1 (Dag 3) op die rooster. Netheid- en skooldraginspeksie sal op die eerste dag van die kwartaal plaasvind. Ons versoek ouers om te sorg dat u seun(s) na die vakansie reg is hiervoor. Hare moet volgens die skoolreëls wees. Ons wil graag trots wees op ons Paul Roosmanne en dus maak ons staat op u samewerking. GRAAD 8 BEGINTYE Dinsdag 8 Januarie: 09h45-14h00 (ontmoet ASB voor die Japie Krige Saal). Woensdag 9 Januarie: 08h30 Gr 9-12 Ons jaarprogram vir 2019 en die toetsrooster vir die eerste kwartaal 2019 is op ons webwerf. U moet asseblief die jaarprogram bestudeer. Dit bevat alle belangrike datums vir volgende jaar. Ouers moet asseblief die brief oor skool- en klasbywoning in 2019 lees. Elke Paul Rooser moet n dagboek vir 2019 aankoop en daagliks daarvan gebruik maak.

3 FROM THE RECTOR S DESK School bags 2019 As from 2019, we would like to build on the PRG brand. Therefore we ask that all learners have a navy or black school bag (Gr 11&12). There may be no branded bags, except for the orthopaedic school bag. Gr 8-10 should already have the correct navy school bag. We appreciate your support in this matter. Skooltasse 2019 Vanaf 2019 sal ons graag die PRG handelsmerk ( brand ) wil versterk. Daarom vra ons dat alle leerders (gr 11&12) n vlootblou ( navy ) of swart skooltas het. Geen handelsname word daarop toegelaat nie, behalwe vir die ortopediese skooltas. Gr 8-10 behoort reeds die korrekte blou skooltas te hê. Baie dankie vir u samewerking in hierdie verband. 4 UIT DIE REKTORSKANTOOR We say farewell to the following teachers: Mr Pieter Muller, Ms Anli van Niekerk, Mr Christo van Graan and Mr Reghardt de Beer. Then we also say farewell to Mrs Coreen Lloyd and honour her for 25 years of loyal and dedicated service to Paul Roos. We do welcome the following staff to our school in 2019: - Carina du Toit (Accounting), Tara-Lea Finlay (English), Raoul Roux (Music), Dorbling Terblanche (Part-time Accounting), Hannelize du Plessis (Part-time Choir) and Jacques Vermooten (EGD). Ouers moet asseblief nie dokters- of tandartsafsprake gedurende skooltyd reël nie. Ons is bewus daarvan dat dit soms onvermydelik is en ons sal verstaan in noodgevalle. The general opinion is that some learners stay at home too easily when they are not really ill. With the new education system, it is difbicult for them to catch up on work that has been missed. Ons wil graag mev. Hesti van der Mescht, redakteur van die 2018-jaarblad, gelukwens. Sy het voorwaar n meesterstuk gelewer. Ons vertrou dat alle ouers en leerders dit sal geniet om die jaarboek deur te blaai en hoogtepunte van 2018 te bestudeer. Ons het n ongelooblike jaar beleef. Dankie aan almal vir hul bydrae tot die suksesse van Paul Roos. I wish you all a blessed and happy Festive Season and a pleasant time relaxing with your families. 5 BELANGRIKE INLIGTING Vakveranderinge vir 2019 Graad 8 & 9: Leerders mag nie hul keusevak van graad 8 na graad 9 verander nie, aangesien klasgrootte, onderwyser-indeling en hulpbronne reeds vasgestel is deur die aantal leerders wat n vak neem. Leerders mag hul Taal na n Huistaal of Addisionele taal verander. n Vakverandervorm kan by mev. Cloete afgehaal word of van die PRG-webtuiste gedruk word. Voltooide vorms moet by Kamer 14 of mev. Cloete ingehandig word. Grade 10 & 12: A subject change form can be collected from Mrs Cloete or can be printed from the PRG website. Completed forms must be handed to Mrs Cloete or Room 14. Please note that the feasibility of subject changes depends on class sizes, timetable variables and availability of teaching staff. Sperdatums van vakveranderinge: Graad 8 van 2019: Die eerste twee weke van die jaar. Die eerste week van die derde kwartaal geen keusevak mag verander word nie. Die leerder kan slegs van n Huistaal na Addisionele Taal of andersom verander. Graad 9 van 2019: Die eerste week van die jaar mag 'n leerder se tweede taalopsie verander word (Huistaal na Addisionele taal en andersom). Geen keusevak mag verander word nie. Graad 10 van 2019: Eerste geleentheid vir kwartaal 1 & 2: 23 Januarie 2019 Tweede geleentheid vir kwartaal 3 & 4: 18 Julie 2019 Graad 11 van 2019: Maksimum TWEE vakke in die eerste week van die jaar. Een vak mag verander word vir sy Graad 12 jaar na die Novembereksamen en voor 12 Desember Graad 12 van 2019: Vakveranderinge sluit reeds 12 Desember GEEN vakveranderinge word in Graad 12 toegelaat nie.

6 BELANGRIKE INLIGTING Assessment accommodations are granted to learners with special educational needs (LSEN) in accordance with departmental policy. Special needs include: neurological disorders; auditory and visual impairments; physical, learning, emotional and behavioural disabilities. Please note that the ability to complete an assignment timeously and independently is an essential skill for tertiary study or entering the job market and for this reason great care must be given in the granting of an accommodation and specibically additional time for assessment. A learner is granted an assessment accommodation in order to obtain the most accurate reblection of his knowledge, potential and skills. The assessment standard may never be compromised and the learner with special needs may never be advantaged. The pre-supposition of the policy of the WCED is that the process is initiated by the school on the grounds of needs/problems that have materialised in the classroom/general school context. Parents are advised to contact the head of Learner Support (Mrs Lelani Cloete) if they feel that their son s learning impediment is being overlooked by the teachers. According to the provincial policy all requests must reach the chair of the SBST (Mrs L. Cloete at HYPERLINK "mailto:lcloete@paulroos.co.za" lcloete@paulroos.co.za) before 30 April of a learner s grade 10 year.

After the lead changed hands multiple times PRG eventually came out 10 9 victor s in a most entertaining game. 8 different players scored for PRG which is testament to a great team performance and resulted in a great win for the maroon and gold. This is the birst time the school has beaten Bishops since 2014 and has created a sense of anticipation for next year s programme.

23 THOMAS WINTER WINS ACTING AWARD Thomas Winter (Gr11) won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the Galveston Island Film Festival (Texas, USA).

25 PAUL ROOS S BIRTHDAY 30 October will always remain a signibicant day in the lives of all Paul Roosers. The Student Council visited Paul Roos s grave to commemorate his birthday.
