2 President s Page What a day! What a great result over at Knox firstly with a big win from our 19s who are travelling well at a crucial time in the season sorting out who's who in the zoo. Graham Reynolds It was very pleasing to see our seniors delivering some very solid football over the last three weeks to now have a big chance to put ourselves in a very respectable position in this competition. It is going to be a big day this Saturday being Bowman medal day when we present the best on ground for Lilydale with the now prestigious Bowman medal. There have been some great winners of this in the past so competition should be high. Also I will be hosting the Presidents luncheon with attendees being our life members, special guests, volunteers and sponsors alike. This is the opportunity for the club to say thank you to all past and present for their contribution to the Lilydale Football Club. It will also give us the opportunity to introduce a new major sponsor in Yarra Ranges Ford Lilydale. General Manager Angelo Valerio will announce a very special offer for all our members to kick off what I'm sure will be a valuable partnership Please keep working on items and goods and services for our big auction night Saturday 28th July. Book your items in now so that we can advertise what we have to offer. Go Falcons Page 2

MATCH GOALS: Nick Sargent 4, Daniel Breese 2, Nathan O Keefe 2, Jake Taylor 2, Ashraf Davies 2, Robbie Allen 1, Jay Pumpa 1 and Ryan Mitchell 1. This was a great team effort and a big result for this club at a crucial stage of the season. We now firmly believe we are genuine first division contenders here for the long haul. Well done and thanks to the tremendous support we got from our loyal band of supporters at Knox. MATCH GOALS: Leigh Carswell 3, Daniel Baldwin 1 and James Munro 1. This was a massive challenge against the second placed Knox side. We started brilliantly to lead at quarter time and stayed with them in the second quarter to be equal with them at the main break. The second half started well but dropped off for 8 or 9 costly minutes when they got away to lead by 4 goals at three quarter time. It was a massive effort by the players and our attack on the ball and intensity was a highlight all day. Unfortunately by going down by 36 points we can only look forward to next week s challenge to get back on the winner s list. Maher 2, T. Rourke 2, B. Stephens 2, M. Fotia, Z. Galbally, L. Koger, J. Dell and M. Gordon 1 each. The last couple of weeks have been very good for us with 57 point and 87 point wins. There are some very pleasing signs in the way we are starting to move the footy in stages throughout the game. Over the next couple of week we will be tested by some of the top 5 sides. We need to keep working hard. AWARDS: Mooroolbark and Mt Evelyn Bendigo Community Bank Award: Falconians Award: Flanker Award: Calcutta Zac Galbally Tom Rourke Michael Gordon TBA Page 5

6 Under 17A (Blue) Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE Nick Tennant Coach ROWVILLE BEST: Shane Richards, Ash Gibbons, Ryan Harvey, Zac Kennedy, Mitch Carratelli, Taylor Hohepa, Hugh Skate MATCH GOALS: Ryan Harvey 3, Dan Groen, Luke Bouchier, Mitchell Jacobs, Mitch Carratelli and Brayden Hunt 1 Back home after a really pleasing 2 weeks away against the second placed side and in a huge turnaround from the first time we played them we pushed them all the way and with a little luck might have pinched the game. The difference was we had too many players who had a bad ¼ and didn t contribute for the whole 80 minutes. We have shown we now have what it takes to match up against the better sides and with some hard work on the training track and the return of some good players we can make this happen. Plenty to like about the game though and once again the effort from the boys was outstanding. Our last three quarters were much better as we moved the ball well with handball and carry from halfback with many great runs from Jye Scortino and Ben Wood who played his 100th game. Lucas Halse was superb on ball again with Corey Berntsen with the help from many great taps from Nick Delbiondo in the ruck. Big game next week against Vermont away. It was a must win game to keep our finals hopes alive. Against a top side we were 4 goals down at ¼ time and that was the difference at the end of the game. We are still in the finals race so let s not give these sides a head start and I m sure we can match it with anyone on our day. Special mention to Westy, Jimmy, Sammy, Macca & Hodgie. We went into today s game with only 18 players, and 4 were either sick or injured, so to win by 117 points is a credit to the boys. There were 12 individual goal scores, which proves we played as a team. The intensity and support was obvious, a great sign with the finals so close. Congratulations to Luke Falkingham Playing his 50 th game today. AWARDS: The Flanker Lachlan Morris Confectionery Peter Nouk Page 10

The boys tackled well, ran hard and played with more skill than they've shown for quite a while. Great to see contributions from more than the usual half a dozen players and that's why we played so much better. Next week is now do or die against Mitcham, if we don't win there's no finals for us so let s give our all. 12 Under 11A Peter Skewes Coach Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE NORWOOD BEST: Beau Tennant, Kyle Appleby, Connor Wishart, Curtis Jeffrey, Liam Appleby, Brent Skewes, Daniel Schlueter ENCOURAGEMENT: Brandon Hemplel, Noah Serci, Ben Schneider, Riley Baxter MATCH GOALS: Jack Bateman 2, Kyle Appleby 2, Lachlan Poli 1, Brent Skewes 1, Brad Pennington 1 SEASON GOALS: Jack Bateman 13, Kyle Appleby 8, Jay Rooney 4, Liam Appleby 3, Josh White 2, Beau Tennant 2, Daniel Schleuter 2, Lachlan Poli 2, Brent Skewes 2, Josh Wyles 1, Brad Pennington 1, Seth Horsley 1 What a great day for the boys! After being very disappointing last week, we really set ourselves to bounce back this week and not let the rest of the season unfold. We also set ourselves to take down one of the big teams before the end of the season and this week playing the team in third place was our last chance of the year. The boys were fantastic from go to wow as the back line played tight and in front all day, the mid field got the game on their terms in the centre and around the stoppages and the forwards finished of the hard work, with their forward pressure outstanding! While there was a lot of outstanding efforts right across the day, the Riley Baxter tackle in the goal square to save a certain goal right on the quarter time siren, in what had been a really tight first quarter was a real highlight for me and really displayed what the boys were all about today. Two games to go, TWO WINS TO FINISH, would be a great way for the boys to reward themselves for a great year! 13 Under 10A Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE ST SIMONS BEST: A really good team effort. Special mention To Taylor Reinecke Graeme McKenzie Coach MATCH GOALS: Bailey Nikl 2, Marc Massarotti, Liam Cox, Keelan Paul 1 each SEASON GOALS: Marc Massarotti 8, Sam Hodgett 7, Nicholas McKenzie 6, Liam Cox 4, Keelan Paul 4, Bailey Nikl 2, Ben Easterbrook 2, Jack Rakoula 2, Tom Whitaker 2, Taylor Reinecke 1, Mitchell Blake 1, Bradley Flack 1, Jacob Milsom 1 At home this week to St Simons on a wet track, lead out by captains for the day Bradley Flack and Zac Chioda. The boys were on fire in the first half of the game which included plenty of handballs to running players, many effective shepherds and most of all we were winning plenty of the ball in the middle with Taylor Reinecke s great rockwork to Marc Massarotti, Nick McKenzie and Sam Hodgett. There was not much work to do for the backline players as the ball did not really go down there too often. Up forward though, Liam Cox was bustling in many contests and kicked a nice goal. Bailey Nikl took two great marks behind the pack to score his first two goals for the year, whilst Marc Massarotti and Keelan Paul also kicked first half goals. We had some injuries in the second half and with some rotations in the middle, it looked like the boys put the cue in the rack a little as we did not add another major for the day. The backline held up well only conceding one goal for the entire day with Robert Danks playing his best game for the year. A great win boys!! Well a cold and brisk morning met us at St Simons. As has been the case in the past, we supplied a couple of players to the opposition. They presented themselves well for St Simons. We attacked well and led for most of the day until a few late goals put us behind. Congratulations to Joel Redman on his first goal for the club. We are consistently improving and showing great spirit as the season comes closer to the end. Well done on playing the game in the true spirit. 15 Juniors Report With President Graeme Donald take a leaf out of the kids book and enjoy the game! What a round of footy with some teams coming up against some very strong opposition and only just missing out and coaches asking the question after the final siren if only little Jonnie had marked the ball or if we had only kicked straight. But you can only move on and focus on the next week s opponent. To say its only kids footy can be a bit of an understatement, with the preparation and expectations that the coaches and parents put on the kids gets a little lost in the translation of kids footy. After all the kids play footy because they love it and love playing with their mates not to appease their parents and to satisfy their parents ego but to have fun. So parents take a leaf out your kids book and when you re watching your kids smile cheer laugh and let your kids enjoy their footy and don t forget encourage not discourage. As the end of the season draws closer preparations are starting to be made for presentation day with the venue booked and the tally sheets for the best and fairest votes dusted off it hardly seems the season has got into full swing yet. But as they say you don t miss something until its gone and soon it will be all over for another year, so guys enjoy it while its here. Good luck with your games this week and don t forget our last awards night for the season is after the last round at the senior club so come along and you may be the lucky winner of our big draw Cheers Graeme Donald Lilydale TIMBER & HARDWARE 64 Cave Hill Road Lilydale Page 15

21 Falcon Scoops noticed in last week s Eastern Football that all 6 tipsters went for Knox to knock us off at their home ground. And in Boundary Banter Ben Waterworth said..at home its Knox for mine while Ben Warren-Smith said Falcons of the Red Variety for me as well. Well the Falcons of the Blue & Gold variety won. Touché!! Did you notice in the Stats last week that Knox was on a winning streak having won the last 2 games against the Dales to draw level on 6 wins apiece. Now we are back in front again 7 to 6 to be top of the Falcons. While on the stats our own Nathan O Keefe is still second on the league goal kicking with 35 goals just 1 behind leader Shayne Allen from Noble Park. Keep coming Nathan. Falcon Scoops An update on Marcus Kenny s goal kicking tally in the EDFL. It is now 74 goals from 6 games after he kicked 13 in Airport West s score of to Keilor Park How did they get through the defence twice during the game? That backline should be ashamed of themselves. Who was the Committeeman who had to pay twice to see the Dales last week? It seems that he went to the Wantirna South ground, paid his dough and then looked up to see the wrong colours running around. It pays to read our website where clear instructions on how to get to the ground can be accessed each week. Simon Rourke was interviewed after the game by 98.1 Eastern FM. Their boundary rider had him facing into the sun. You reckon he would have turned his back to the sun so Simon didn t have to shade his eyes just to see the interviewer when giving his responses to questions. But Simon didn t seem to mind. We won! Talking about Simon, it was great to see him after the game, encouraging all the supporters to come into the rooms to sing our theme song. Page 21
