2 President s Page the good and the sad! It has been a great week on the field for the club with all three senior sides winning. From an administration sense it was also a successful week Graham Reynolds with the outcome from our goods & services auction showing clearly just what a great bunch of supporters we have at the Lilydale Football Club. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who donated lots for the auction and in particular the efforts of the players in the innovative way in which they contributed. I would also like to thank Simon Rourke and all his players for showing that they really are proud to play for the blue and gold falcons jumper. And thank you to all the friends, families, sponsors and supporters who came along and bid for the lots. It was a great night and the roast beef rolls Vicki Hottes prepared proved very popular and really hit the spot. Thanks Vicki and husband Ron for your efforts. And finally thanks to my Committee who have been very supportive in organising the night. But sadly, all this is tempered by the news that Paul "Crackers" Kenyon who I reported in this column last week, had suffered a serious stroke, unfortunately did not make it and passed away at the age of 55. Crackers was a playing life member of the club and a very popular figure whose passing will leave a real vacuum in the club. Fittingly we said good-bye to him in our social rooms last Tuesday. On behalf of the LFC community I pass out our deepest sympathy to the Kenyon family. Graeme Reynolds. Go falcons Page 2

MATCH GOALS: Jake Taylor 3, Daniel Breese 2, Ryan Breese 1, Robbie Allen 1, and Ashraf Davies 1. A really good win today against a team that was really desperate for a win. Our team today showed us that playing for the club and the jumper is alive and well at Lilydale. This was a fantastic effort from all the players. We started well again kicking 6 first quarter goals. But this time we did not let up and went on to kick 15 for the game. This was a really solid effort from everyone and it was great to get a big win on the board. It was a great win today considering we lost Dayne, Sean and Dipper before half time and not having an interchange after halftime. It was great to see Lowie kicking 6 goals and our on ballers Kyle, Brayds and Sam play 4 solid quarters and Koges having to ruck most of the day after losing Dayne was a great effort. 6 Under 17A (Blue) Nick Tennant Coach Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE BLACKBURN BEST: Ash Gibbons, Ryan Harvey, Ryan Donald, Joel Schembri, Nick Hearne, Jake Clements, Luke Bouchier, Luke Porter MATCH GOALS: Joel Schembri 2, Luke Porter 1, Ryan Harvey 1 Footy can sometimes be a cruel game and when you walk away as losers after having more of the play, more inside 50 s and most critically 7 more scoring shots on a wet, muddy day this was one of those days. The start of the game was good for us against the wind as we had all the play but with their first 2 forays forward they scored goals and after a soft stoppage goal we were 3 goals down and fighting an uphill battle after that. The players efforts were terrific throughout the day and as I reminded them it wasn t possible to make the goals up in 10 minutes in the conditions so we had to keep attacking, unfortunately the points ended up killing us and while a great late goal from Ryan Harvey kept us in the hunt our season ended unfortunately a couple of minutes later. In the short time I coached the boys their work ethic and ability definitely will be a huge plus for the club in future years and I thank them for the short time I had with them. Nick Tennant Page 6

7 Under 19s Under 17B1 (Gold) Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 FT GULLY LILYDALE Russell Hastie Coach MATCH GOALS:. 1. Liam Koger 2, Brenton Birtchnell 2, Michael Hastie 1, Lachy Finell SEASON GOALS: Brenton Birtchnell 23, Liam Koger 21, Lochy Wilson 15, Alex Edmonds10, Pat Kovac 8, Michael Gills 8, Nick Ruhl 8, Luke O Keefe 5, Corey Farrow 5. Jordy Marsh 3 Michael Hastie 3, Josh James 2 Jikola Wynman 1, Jaydon Dixon 1, Blaise Adderley 1 Dylon Dipper 1 Fraser Smith 1 The Elimination final was played on a wet and boggy ground. The boys have been working hard on the track and were desperate for a win after a bit of a slump over the past few weeks. The display this group put on was explosive, they fought out every quarter running and carrying the ball at all costs, every player played there role and more, they kept grinding away and wearing the opposition down Great starts to our first final keep working hard boys and good luck again Page 7

8 Under 12C Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 CHIRN. PARK Ash Beckwith Coach LILYDALE BEST: Jesse Ebert, Lachlan Cox, Mitchell Gordon, Macauley Beckwith, Luke Willemson, Elliot Worell, Ricky Roeloff, Luke Chandler, Kobey Hardie, Daniel Styles. ENCOURAGEMENT: Daniel DeVincentis, Jack Hudson, MATCH GOALS: Ricky Roeloff 3, Jack Hudson 2, Lachie Cox 1, Mitchell Gordon 1 SEASON GOALS: Ricky Roeloff 16, Macauley Beckwith 14, Jack Hudson 12, Lachlan Cox 11 Today was the boys first final and they did us proud winning the game by 28 points. In wet conditions the boys lead from start to finish and were relentless in the last quarter when the game was still up for grabs to run away with it. We had winners all across the ground with Jesse Ebert playing a great game down back, our midfield all played well and down forward our two big boys with Ricky Roeloff and Jack Hudson played well in the conditions and kicked 5 goals between them. Congratulations to Daniel Styles who played his 50 th game. Next week we play Heathmont at Koonung Reserve Blackburn South 10.50am. Page 8

15 Juniors Report With President Graeme Donald 2 out of 3 is a start! First week of finals and the under 12s and 17b had good wins unfortunately the 17a went down to Blackburn by 3 points kicking 4 goals 12 points and as they say bad kicking is bad football. Good luck boy s l know a few of you will get an opportunity playing over the next few weeks with the 19s in their run up to their finals, this is an opportunity to experience and sample senior football. It s just like going from Primary School to High School the new little kids in the schoolyard. We still have 4 teams in the finals run with Ash having 2 teams in finals fortunately there not too far apart and he has got a great support crew to get the boys prepared. Good luck to the under 13s and 15s who kick off their finals bid. The weather has not been that kind to us and the grounds are really suffering and a couple of things come to mind is that its good old fashioned wet weather football and whoever is first to the ball and really wants it will come away with the chocolates on the day. A memo has been sent out to all clubs in regards to parents and players behaviour and that they are not going to tolerate any abuse or players remonstrating and fines will be handed out to clubs and Yellow and Red cards will be issued to misbehaving players. Believe me they are not mucking around they have already dealt one of our players a yellow card and he will miss 1 week of football. Fourteen weeks of football and you have to sit on the side lines and watch your team mates play and there s not a thing you can do to help your side out. They even fined our club because one of the runners didn t have the appropriate gear on. Good luck boys this week and don t forget to don the Gold and Blue and support the Mighty Dales. Cheers Graeme Donald Lilydale TIMBER & HARDWARE 64 Cave Hill Road Lilydale Page 15

21 It is great to see Big Benny Dolan getting a run in the Seniors and acquitting himself well too. This makes it possible for the Triple Ben Play. And guess what? In the game against Scoresby it happened. We had Ben Power handball to Ben Neagle who kicked it to Ben Dolan. And then Ben Dolan kicked it to Ben Power but the umpire called him back and he had to take his shot which he promptly put through for a major. You have to love grass roots footy. Former Falcon s captain and best and fairest winner Sean Toohey who has been playing with Silvan unfortunately fractured his shoulder last Saturday and looks like missing the finals as he is almost certain to need surgery to repair the damage. Falcon Scoops We had a very successful and entertaining Sunday at Bunnings with the club making a little over $1500 profit for the day. Many thanks to Bob Brown, Hec Cruickshank, Hindsy, Staf & Rourkey for their expertise on the BBQ. Special thanks to Dean Carswell & Robbie Allen who turned up in a taxi, then kept us entertained for the next 3 hours. Also thanks to Kyle Maher & Lowey who came along to pick up the boys but ended up working. Great Job boys. Also Ron & Vicki Hottes who had another commitment but came along and helped us see out the day and finish up. Dropped sausage count for the day Hec 1, Staf 1, Deano 1 and Rourkey 0 (thanks to a couple of great saves..) The roll up for the Auction was great but by the end of the night some of the organisers were getting a bit weary after a long day and missed what a couple of the lots went for. Fortunately there were enough scribes around to get the information recorded. It s a tough day at the office for our administrators at times. Page 21

24 Tribute - Crackers One of Lilydale Football Clubs most passionate supporters and playing Life Member, Paul Kenyon passed away at 1am on Wednesday 25 th July after suffering a stroke. His brother Darren "Butch" Kenyon wrote on his facebook page " Sorry to say that Crackers passed away last night just before 1.00am, the stroke was more severe than at first anticipated and unfortunately the damage was too significant. He died peacefully & pain free." His service was held at Lilydale Memorial Park at 10am on Tuesday 31 st July followed by a gathering of his family and friends in our social rooms. President Graham Reynolds reported that his brother Jamie expressed the sentiments that it was befitting that he should be farewelled in a place that he loved so much. The turn out was extraordinary which is testament to the high regard with which Paul was held. He will be sadly missed by everyone in the Lilydale Football Club community and we extend our sincerest condolences to his family on their loss. He was 55. Page 24
