Seniors Round 14 Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE VERMONT Simon Rourke Coach BEST: Andy Bawden, Leigh McCombe, Grant Hill, Ben Weightman, Damien Volta, Dean Carswell GOALS: Ben Weightman 3, Dean Carswell 1 Today we faced one of the yardsticks of the competition in Vermont and they were out of the box early forging a 4 goal lead at the first break. To the boys credit our second and third quarters were very competitive and at the final change a deficit of six goals was commendable. In the end our endeavour wasn t enough as Vermont kicked away with their superior skill and fitness showcasing what standards we need to aspire to and which can be attained if we re committed to achieving what s possible with this group. AWARDS: East Ridge Platinum Award: Glen Mayes Car Service Voucher: Revival Hair and Body Voucher Calcutta Winner: Rocco s Raffle Winner: Andy Bawden Leigh McCombe Grant Hill James Donald To Be Advised Page 3

Reserves Round 14 Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE Adam Hinds Coach VERMONT BEST: Brad Graham, James Snow, Kyle Maher, Stephen McDonald, Jamie Cruickshank and Sam Horsley. GOALS: Scott McKean, Adem Tahirovski, Stephen Cruickshank and Jimmy Shore 1 each. Although we made a terrific start, we did not adjust to the conditions well enough. Despite this, the endeavor shown by the players all game was commendable. AWARDS: East Ridge Platinum Award: Darren s Flowers Voucher: Warburton Golf Award: Calcutta Winner: Brad Graham James Snow Kyle Maher Gavin Hunt Page 4

Under 19s Round 14 Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE VERMONT John Gordon Coach BEST: Dayne Hammacher, Adam O Donohue, Bradley Lowe, Zac Kennedy, Nick Hearne and Frazer Smith. MATCH GOALS: Brad Lowe 4, Brayden Schembri 2, Nick Hearne, Sam Morton and Lachlan Koger 1 each. There are games that you look at as a coach and think, if we could win this one you know that you are heading in the right direction. This was one of those games playing Vermont who have only lost one game for the year. In the 1st quarter there was a lot of pressure from both sides. We managed to score three goals to one with everyone playing their role. The second quarter was just as good as the first. They missed a few shots on goal as we did and we went into half time with a 9 point lead. In the third quarter we dropped off and let them have the footy inside their forward 50 for about 10 minutes and were lucky they did not kick straight. We worked hard for the rest of the quarter and went into three quarter time with a small lead. The last quarter was an arm wrestle for about 7 or 8 minutes before the game opened up. With the on ballers winning the contested ball and the forwards leading well the score board began to tick over and we ended up winning by 32 points. The backline was fantastic all day, the mids were working hard, the forward line worked better when they started to lead and we put the ball out in front of them. A fanastic win. 6 Junior Club Report With President Peter Koger 2 ELIMINATED :4 THROUGH! With the first week of finals done and dusted we had the under 12s (5 points) and 13s (13 points) go down gallantly and the 11s,14s,15s and 17s all win and move into the second week of the finals. Congratulations to Jordan Dunham in the 17s for 100 games and Joel Dolman in the 14s for 50 games. I have to make an apology. Last week I congratulated the wrong Hodgett. It was Sammy playing his 50 games not his brother Tommy. This week we have: 11s at Batteram Reserve Boronia at 10:55 against Nth Ringwood. 14s at Knox Gardens Reserve at 12:30 against Vermont. 15s at Morton Park Blackburn at 2:30 against Ringwood. 17D at Pinks Reserve Kilsyth at 2:30 against Knox Black. 17A at East Ringwood at 2:30 against Vermont. This is a fantastic effort by the club and the players and coaches should be very proud of their efforts so far. I am looking forward to some good wins. If they win this week they are straight into the grand final. I encourage all Lilydale Juniors players and their families to get along to as many games as possible this week and support our boys. A huge thankyou to all the volunteers that helped us host the finals this week. It went off without a hitch and the ground looked fantastic. We also have Junior finals at the main ground again this week and again we ask anyone who has a spare hour or two that can help to contact myself or Kerri Skewes. All the best to our boys this week. Go Dales. Page 6

Under 17B Qual Final Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE BLACKBURN Grant Shanks Coach BEST: Mitchell De Fransecchi, Brad Ryan, Jye Scortino, BenWood, Nick Del Biondo, Joel Toohey, Lucas Halse, Pat Kovac MATCH GOALS: Jye Scortino 2, Shane Mansfield 2, Jason Mansfield 1, Scott Kirk 1, Lucas Halse 1, Pat Kovak 1, Mitch De Fransecchi 1 Our first finals game in difficult conditions against a very physical side was always going to be hard to win. Unfortunately we lost the toss so we were kicking against a very strong wind but to everyone s credit we only conceded 2 goals. It was our turn in the second to put scoreboard pressure on them but could only manage 3 goals. At the long break we knew that we had won the first half but the 3 rd quarter was going to be tough and that we had to play accountable footy as they had the advantage of the wind. We both kicked 3 goals each which was a great result considering how hard it was to kick goals against the wind. The last quarter we knew that the wind was an advantage but we were still committed to playing accountable footy and thankfully won by 15 points which was close to the biggest margin for the whole game. Our backline (Pierce, Scott, Jason, Brad, Billy, Eddie, Zac and Ben) were great today. Another great game today by Mitch who for the last 2 weeks has been heavily tagged by the opposition but to his credit is still playing good footy. Congrats to Jordan on playing his 100 th game today. Page 7

Under 15C Qual Final Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE Tim Wilson Coach MITCHAM BEST: Shane Kollosche, Sammy Baker, Luke West, James Howard, Tristan Tweedie, Eddie Goodwin, Cooper Shalevski MATCH GOALS: Eddie Goodwin 4, Teale Maxworth 2, Tristan Tweedie 2, Ben Decru 1, Sam Baker 1, Cooper Shalevski 1, Brandon Mills 1, Mitch Arthur 1, James Howard 1 Today was the first time these boys played in a final in their football careers and wow didn t they enjoy it! I thought nerves would get to them but the opposite happened and they played disciplined team football and stuck to our structures which was fantastic to watch. But boys, I m not taking the icing off the cake, but we still have a way to go. Well done, fantastic effort! Page 8

Under 14B Qual Final Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE SCORESBY Craig Davison Coach BEST: Blake Hughes, Kyle Skewes, Ryan MacFarlane, Trent Davison, Bayley Sciortino, Joel Koger, Daniel Thompson, Mathew Di Pietrantonio MATCH GOALS: Daniel Thompson 4, Mathew Di Pietrantonio 1, Blake Hughes 1, Robert Roelofs 1, Luke Falkingham 1 Sunday again, a special week, first week of finals and we played Scoresby again, where cheap shots on and off the ball go hand in hand with their football. Once again the wind played a huge part and we kicked into it again first up keeping them to 1 goal. Second quarter we started well kicking 4 goals but again a 5 minute lapse in concentration cost us with them kicking 3 late goals so we had a 1 point lead at the main break. We dominated play in the third quarter and managed to kick a couple of goals, so did Scoresby but we had the wind in the last. We started strong again and dominated but couldn't score early. In the end we kicked a few goals running out winners. A great effort by the boys. Page 9

Under 13B Elim Final Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE Ash Beckwith Coach EAST R WOOD BEST: Jesse Ebert, Caleb Price, Macauley Beckwith, Lachlan Cox, Jack Jordan, Cody Hirst MATCH GOALS: Jesse Ebert 2, Josh Paynter 1, Lachlan Cox 1 Unfortunately today our season came to an end with a 4 goal loss to East Ringwood. Our first half was pretty good with Caleb Price and Jack Jordan playing well on the wings and Macauley Beckwith giving us a good option down forward. We got out to a 2 goal lead in the second but that was as good as it got as east finished with the last 2 goals of the quarter although we still had a slight advantage at half time. A couple of bad decisions in the second half by our boys and umpires saw East Ringwood kick a couple of goals a quarter which we couldn't match. A lack of rotation options saw our boys run out of legs and we just couldn't stay with them. It was a great effort this year boys with solid improvement across the team. It may have been a disappointing finish with injuries but that's the way the game goes. Proud sponsor of the Lilydale Junior Football Club Page 10

Under 12B Elim Final Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 LILYDALE BORONIA Peter Skewes Coach BEST: Kyle Appleby, Josh Wyles, Beau Tennant, Lachlan Poli, Jackson Singer, Mitch Douglas, Liam Appleby MATCH GOALS: Jack Bateman 1, Liam Appleby 1, Jarrod Thompson 1 It was very disappointing that or season ended today as I felt like we still had more in us, however finals games especially played in windy conditions puts the game up for grabs. We started well and matched them as we kicked against the wind in the first quarter, however we didn t play smart footy in the second quarter as we just bombed the ball forward and they dropped numbers back. In the end the arm wrestle finished with Boronia just in front but the boys have now tasted finals footy so bring on Go Dales! See Luke Ewart or lilydale@efl.org.au Page 11

Under 11B Elim Final Graeme McKenzie Coach Q I Q 2 Q 3 Q 4 GLEN WAV LILYDALE BEST: Great team effort! Sam Hodgett, Marc Massarotti, Jake Rieschieck, Mitchell Blake, Jye Price, Nicholas McKenzie MATCH GOALS: Sam Hodgett 2, Josh Uhr-Henry 1, Cooper West 1, Tom Whitaker 1 The boys were on fire in the first term playing the best footy they've played this year. Sam Hodgett set us alight with two great snaps for goals and Josh Uhr-Henry added another goal. Our on ballers were well on top with Joel Dacre very lively up forward. The second term was more of a contest with Cooper Weston adding our only major for the term, and so into half time with a good 3 goal break. The third quarter was not great again, the boys looked slow and we did not play in front both up forward and down back. We failed to score a goal. This pattern continued in the last term with the boys losing their way a little. We didn't man up as well as had been earlier on in the game. By the final siren we managed to hang on for a draw. Extra time was played five minutes each end. Both sides kicked a goal in the first five minutes of extra time, ours dribbled through by Tom Whitaker. We scrapped through with a rushed behind in the final five minute stanza and that was the end winning margin. Great effort to hold on this week boys and lets do it all again this week! 22 This week s round of matches in the EFL will be known as the Roadsafety Round with the aim of the program to reduce the incidence of road trauma amongst young people. Full details of the program are include on page 21. Our close neighbours in Coldstream and Silvan will be playing in a Sunday Game this weekend at Coldstream. Which is timely to remind all our supporters that we will be hosting the Junior Finals this Sunday at Lilydale. If you can help out in any way please call Graham Reynolds on The Senior ladders have changed from last week in the Flanker as they have been updated after the completion of the split round. Unfortunately our senior team was forced down 1 place into 7 th. Falcon Scoops Have you noticed we have a new feature on our website each week as The Falcon delivers his weekly message. It is in the format of a animated character who is reports from various locations at our ground. The feature is known as Tellagami and has drawn comments on Facebook. Take a look. Young Cooper Beckwith got his arm stuck in a drain last week and they had to bring out the angle grinder to free him. Junior President Peter Koger had a telephone call from Norma McLachlan advising that her car was hit on Sunday night at the Junior Awards Night (July 21st) between 8:00 and 8:20 pm. Her car is a silver blue lancer. No one left any details so she is appealing for witnesses or the culprit to call her. It was dark blue and white paint and the damage is substantial so the driver would have known of the collision. She doesn't want to get the police involved. Norma can be contacted on her mobile And see Pete s report on page 6 for the venues of this week s junior finals matches and get along to support them. Page 22
