Féile Peil 2016 Well done to our three Féile Football teams on brave performances last Saturday and to the B team who made it through to Sunday s Div 6 final and thanks to all who supported. Saturday was a very busy day as the following reports show. A Team Division 3A was generously hosted by Skerries GAA. Uniquely Na Fianna had a full squad of 23 players with Tiernan McGowan returning from injury. Conditions were dry, bright with a fresh westerly breeze. In their first match against Templeogue Synge Street, Na 6ú Bealtaine

Fianna started poorly going down a couple of scores before making a remarkable comeback in the second half and won out 4-3 to 3-4. We had another poor start in our second game against hosts Skerries Harps with 3 goals and 6 points conceded before getting on the board. A mammoth hill to climb fin second half was undertaken with gusto but couldn't quite deliver giving a win to the hosts with final score of Na Fianna 4-4 Skerries Harps Na Fianna Féile A Team Third game was against old rivals Raheny, always a tight game and this time no different despite going down 2 goals at one stage. This game was a real nail biter with both sides fighting gallantly for a place in the semis. Na Fianna persevered and held onto the lead after a particularly strong second half performance again and came out winners with final score of Na Fianna 3-5 Raheny 2-6 Through to the semis, as joint top of the Group, however given we lost to Skerries, Na Fianna had to travel. So a logistical rush to Naomh Mearnog to meet Thomas Davis. 6ú Bealtaine

Again we conceded multiple scores in the first half, and looked tired as we entered the second half. The consequence of not taking our points early in the game came through with a fair final result against Na Fianna, final score Na Fianna 2-5 Thomas Davis 4-4. Overall, a strong outing from the squad who left everything on the field of play. All games undertaken in a most sportsmanlike manner. Certainly the confidence to make a comeback in the second half was something the team learned throughout the day, but it doesn't make for easy watching from the sideline! Big thank you to Mark ODea and Stephen Behan for managing the team throughout and most importantly to all the boys for a great display doing the club proud. Squad: Jamie Kelly, Eoghan Rutledge, Fionn MacLaughlin, David Walley, Darragh Coan, Dominick Damianov, Ciaran McHugh, Luke Bennett, Martin Healy, Ciaran Whelan, James Coyle, Vinny Flynn, Oisin Brabazon, Josh O Reilly, Tom Gleeson, Sean Brady, Conor Ruane, Tiernan McGowan, Matthew Kerins, Eddie Mongey, Ben Kane, Colm Begley, Diarmuid Clerkin Mentors: Stephen Behan, Mark O Dea, TJ Gleeson, Paul Flynn, Pairic Clerkin B team Div. 6 It was an early start for the 2002 B footballers on Saturday morning as they took to the field to represent Na Fianna at Feile Peil na Nog 2016 at Peregrines HQ on Blakestown road in Dublin west. The management team of Dermot Kane, Mark Brabazon, Dara McGowan and Andy Matthews knew their first game was going to be a crucial encounter and indeed it was. Na Fianna's U14 chosen ones suffered an unfortunate defeat to near neighbours Naomh Fionbarra by one questionable point after what can only be described as an end to end pitch battle. The Na Fianna forwards of Michael Keegan and Adam Gray adding to the tally in fine style leaving the final score Na Fianna 1-1 to Naomh Fionbarra 0-5. Game two clocked up versus the inimitable Castleknock who were the bookies Feile favourites entering this competition, but just after the restart the fearless and focused Na Fianna boys had them on the ropes with some fantastic defensive work from Eoin Cragg, Oisin Duffy, Daniel Day, Seamus Smith, and Malachy Halpin along side tremendous shot 6ú Bealtaine

stopping from U13 enlisted goalkeeper Sean Fluffy Stone. Na Fianna had some excellent attacking play from Sean Brennan which led to conversions from Liam Keating, the unrelenting Faolan Murphy, Thomas Nolan, Bill Matthews and majestic Conor Stynes bringing the winning scoreline to NaFianna 2-3 to Castleknock s 1-2. Na Fianna Féile B team The early afternoon started for the Na Fianna stars in front of the fabulous main stand in Peregrines HQ, versus our very hospitable hosts. With only one win in the bag we knew that this was to be a crucial game if we were to progress any further in the competition. The game started well with the Na Fianna boys taking control early in the game with 3 goals from Bill Matthews and 1 each from Sean Carroll, Michael Keegan and Conor O Leary alongside great point taking from Ben Jesson and Liam Keating the final victorious scoreline to 9-3 for Na Fianna to 3-7 to Peregrines, leaving the NaFianna troop topping the group and allowing progression to the semi-final against St.Pats of Palmerstown. The semi-final was to be a low scoring encounter with lots of "off the ball movement and some very skilful flowing football from the NaFianna lads, a fantastic dropping goal from Brian Conroy gave the boys some cushion as a bruising encounter ensued, strong defence from Ben Davin Power along side some excellent mid field runs from Adam Mulligan left the 6ú Bealtaine

final total on the board Na Fianna 1-6 to Pats 0-2, clearing the path to a final encounter with our north county league rivals St.Maurs Rush. Sunday began with a strong north westerly breeze which would prove difficult for the Na Fianna boys in the end up. The game started well with succinct scores from Ben Jesson, Conor O Leary, Seamus Smith, Ben Murphy and Bill Matthews. Some wonderful fielding and high and low ball handling from Ciaran Farrell, Sean Carroll and Conor Stynes saw the Mobhi roaders ahead by 9 points at the break. Unfortunately the combination of Feile fatigue and an increasingly strong breeze saw the seasiders taking advantage with 4 very quick scores in the second half. Ben Jesson relieved the pressure somewhat with a scorching net buster in the final quarter, leaving it a 2 point game with only minutes remaining. Maurs were not finished though and in the closing seconds of the game came a lucky point attempt which, wind aided, dipped below the woodwork and was just slightly out of reach of future star and U13 recruit Sean Fluffy Stone to leave the final score when the whistle finally blew at NaFianna St.Maurs 3-7. A disappointing end to what was a fantastic Feile Peil na nog made all the better by the support and following of the NaFianna faithful, family and friends. Thank you s and appreciation must also go to special team mentor James Nolan and also Mel Farrell, Paul Carroll and Eric Halligan for their help and support. One notable mention must also be conveyed to the most recently ordained Rev Fr.Jim Deane of the Cork and Ross diocese for his adaptation and pre-final delivery to the boys of the footballers prayer. Squad: Sean Stone, Adam Mulligan, Oisin Duffy, Liam Keating, Adam Gray, Conor Stynes, Malachy Halpin, Sean Brennan, Ben Murphy, Michael Keegan, Seamus Smyth, Ben Jesson, Ciaran Farrell, Daniel Day, Eoin Cragg, Bill Matthews, Faolan Murphy, Ben Davin-Power, Sean Carroll, Conor O Leary, Thomas Nolan, Brian Conroy Mentors: Andy Matthews, Mark Brabazon, Dara McGowan, Dermot Kane C team Div. 9 THE 'C' team were drawn in a really tough group in Féile at Bushy Park. Hosts Synge Street Templeogue and Kilmacud Crokes were the opposition and both teams were particularly strong. 6ú Bealtaine

The first game against Templeogue Synge Street was hard fought in the early stages with Na Fianna pulling out all the stops to stay with a physically strong and skilful opposition. However, despite a huge work rate from our players, the very impressive Templeogue Synge Street side pulled away to win well. It was no surprise to anybody that they went on to win this division of Féile the following day. Na Fianna s C Féile team The second game with Kilmacud Crokes was a tight enough affair in the early stages. Despite the setback of an early goal from Crokes, Na Fianna replied with two quick points to stay in touch. But in the second half in particular, as tiredness started to creep in, Crokes' strength came through. Although the outcome was clear for some time before the end, our boys battled on until the final whistle, never letting their heads drop. All 24 players were used in both games and they all represented the club with distinction. Both matches were played in a really good spirit. Despite the two defeats, it was a really enjoyable and positive experience of Féile. Particular thanks to Martin Purtill-Kalk's Mam, Ann, for filling the dual roles of Physio and team 6ú Bealtaine

photographer on the day. And also to Templeogue Synge Street for their hospitality on the day. Congratulations to them also on winning Féile. Squad: Adam Duffy, Barry Deane, Ben Treacy, Cian Grew, Connor Hoffman, Conor Twomey, Cuan Coleman, Delany Bowes, Eoin Boyle, Eoin Wilson, Evan Dawson, Cian Whelan, Fionn Conlon, Gael O Connor, Gary Conroy, Hugh Murray, Jack Halligan, Mark Doyle, Martin Purtill-Kalk, Oran O Brien, Ryan Gleeson, Sam O Rourke, Sean Harte, Tomas Peavoy, Brian Howell Mentors: Shane Coleman, Dermot Conroy, Jim Deane, Seamus McHugh Senior Footballers Golf Classic Senior footballers had a convincing win in the first round of the Championship when defeating Templeogue Synge Street by 2-17 to 0-15 and now face St. Vincent s in the next round which will not be played until Dublin complete (successfully, we hope) their assault on Sam for We have ten League games to play in preparation for that big day and the main fund-raiser to support our League and Championship campaign is our Golf Classic which takes place in Donabate Golf Club on May 27th. 10 McNulty Memorial Tournament The 10th Annual McNulty Blitz was played in Mobhi Road on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2nd. Na Fianna s 2 U-11 teams were joined by teams from six clubs Ballyboden St Endas, Borris-ileigh, Castleknock, Kilcormac Killoughey, O Loughlin Gaels and St Finians. Paul Keenan and the pitch set up crew were out bright and early getting everything set up and thankfully after a wet start the sun appeared. Proceedings got underway at and were opened by Tom Ryan who welcomed everyone on behalf of the club and Conall McNulty who said a few words on behalf of the family. A piper led the over 160 boys on a parade of the main pitch and after Amhran Na bhfainn it was down to business. There were six teams in both the A and B blitz and the standard was very high in both. Na Fianna A s started with a great battle against Castleknock which ended in a draw, our lads then won an epic high scoring match against a very skilful Borris-ileigh from Tipp, a narrow defeat against O Loughlin Gaels followed and after a good victory over 6ú Bealtaine

Ballyboden we faced the form team of the group Kilcormac Killoughey in the final match. The lads battled well and held their own for the first half but Kilcormac s class shone through in the second half and they pulled away to record their 5th win of the day. Meanwhile on the back pitch an equally good days hurling was experienced by the boys taking part in the B Blitz. The Na Fianna team had a tough start to their day with a draw against a very strong St. Finians team (the eventually Shield winners), they battled hard to stay in the game and never dropped their heads. They displayed some great hurling skills and kept fighting right through the following games against Kilcormac\Killoughey, Borrisileigh and Ballyboden. Following a well earned food break they finished the blitz with a close game against Castleknock. It was great to see the determination and skill on display from all our players throughout the morning. The cup and the shield were awarded based on a league, and points difference did not come into it in the end with both Kilcormac and St Finians having 100% records in the A and B blitz respectively. Plaques were presented to each participating club by Dublin panellist Shane Barrett and Theresa McNulty presented the Shield and the Cup to the winners. Special thanks to the McNulty family who were there in force and continue their sponsorship of this fantastic event. Dermot s grandson Darragh up from Ennis for the day turned out for Na Fianna and it was a great to see a McNulty in the Na Fianna colours once again. 6ú Bealtaine

A huge effort was put in by mentors and parents of the 2005 boys to ensure the lads had a great day s hurling and our visitors were very well looked after. We had over 300 people to feed and the Mobhi suite was a hive of activity with two sittings accommodated. Feedback from our all visitors was very appreciative and the spirit of both the day and our club was best captured in the following mail sent by Conall McNulty to the organisers. Thanks a million for Yesterday, it was a fab Day. Also a big thanks for looking after Darragh. Please pass on my thanks to all the Management team and the Mothers and Fathers who helped provide the food for the Day and ensured it ran off so well. It may only be once a Year when I get a chance to cheer on Na Fianna with my son playing and believe me I get a great buzz from it. I know they are proud to wear their Na Fianna jerseys around Ennis. Every Year you see the standard getting better, 10 Years ago the odd player could rise it, it was all ground hurling, now every Child rises the ball, sidelines being put over the bar, long distance frees straight over. Really is amazing to think most of the Children are only 10.The feedback from all the visiting teams was full of praise for the organisers and of course the Club for hosting the event. Growing up because my Dad was so involved in the club, Na Fianna was literally our 2nd Home and my Mother would say our 1st Home. From running the bingo on a Friday Night to setting up for the Ceil on a Sunday Night, cleaning up after the Saturday social Night. Attending all the matches and of course being water boys for 20 Years while Dad managed the Senior footballers, intermediate footballers and then the senior Hurlers. Delivering newspapers to raise funds for the club to delivering flyers to attract people to join the club. Up to the early eighties the club ran an Intecounty 7 aside competition on the eve of the football final and it was a busy Day for us all car parking duties, picking up litter, running with score updates and trying to snatch a few games during the Day. Special memories. Na Fianna is a special place and brings back so many happy memories to us all. It is nice to see the tournament running after 10 Years. I am probably the only one in the family that got bitten by the GAA bug and I have to say what my Dad and the other founder members achieved is my inspiration for our club in Ennis. It shows the value of Community spirit and what can be achieved when a group of people pull together. I remember talking to my Dad about the club and what he found most satisfying was after the founder members brought the club so far, the next generation came along and took up the mantle and drove on and that still continues to this Day. The number of teams the Club fields is just amazing the number of volunteers involved is amazing and it is a credit to you all.i am a regular visitor to the website keeping up to date with what is going on, Na Fianna will always be a very special place to me. Thanks again to all involved for a special Day. Regards Conall 6ú Bealtaine
