To help everyone get over Dublin being knocked out of the All Ireland, we re having a club fundraiser with a difference. We re inviting you to take part in a knockout Peil Abú blitz competition based on the All Ireland Championship. The event is open to all parents of kids in the club and is suitable for all fitness levels. We ll be playing Peil Abú, which is a non contact version of Gaelic football which anyone can play a bit like Tag Rugby. The big difference between Peil Abú and Gaelic Football is that players wear tags and a player who is tagged (caught in possession) has to hand over possession of the ball to the opposition. Teams have to be mixed, with at least two members of the opposite sex on each team. Matches are short and have modified rules to make it fun for everyone to play. So what do you do next? Get together with other parents from your kids age group and get a team or teams together. Each team should have seven players, with at least two members of the opposite sex on each team i.e. 4 Ladies, 3 Men or vice versa. Then contact Maurice or Philip (see details below) to register your team and we ll choose a random county team for you for 60. Or if you fancy choosing your own team ever wanted to play for Dublin? then for an extra 40 you can live the dream and choose whatever team you want To take part, please contact Philip at philip.obrien19@gmail.com or Maurice at maurice.grehan@gmail.com 1

Weekend Action Adult football this weekend starts on Saturday at 6pm with Seniors hosting St Sylvesters in Mobhi Road (see below) and Inters travelling to Pope John Paul 2 Park to play Naomh Fionnbarra. Sunday at 10.30am sees our AFL10 team in Championship semi-final against Kilmacud Crokes in Silverpark, Junior A s play Erin s Isle away and Junior B s play Starlights in Collinstown Lane. Championship weekend for Minor hurlers with all three teams playing on Sunday. At 10.15am A s play Naomh Fionnbarra in Mobhi Road and B s play Craobh Chiaráin in Clonshaugh. Later at 12.15pm, C s host Wild Geese in Mobhi Road. Full fixture list on website, best of luck to all teams, all support welcome. Senior Footballers Let the Games Begin Senior Footballers face into their last league game this weekend before the Senior Football Championship begins in earnest. Saturday evening at 6pm we face St. Sylvester s in our last home league match of the year. Next up will be Templeogue Synge Street in the Championship in Parnell Park on Friday, September 19th, about which, more anon. The lads have gotten through the Summer programme well, now in fourth position in the league with two games to go and a more than realistic chance of making the play-offs. After a comprehensive 4 16 to 1 17 defeat of St. Mary s two weeks ago, the Seniors welcome back our Dublin contingent of Jonny Cooper, Tomás Brady and Niall McGovern for the match against Sylvester s. Despite the deep disappointment of last weekend s All-Ireland semi-final loss, the lads were out training with their club mates on Tuesday big men all!! Pillar will have a full squad to pick from for probably the first time this year. Between participation in Dublin Under 21 All Ireland winning team and Dublin Seniors, we ve rarely had the whole squad available at the one time! So the match against Sylvester s should show us what we can expect in the Championship. We ve been drawn in the next round with Eoghan O Gara s Templeogue Synge Street and this will be played in Parnell Park on Friday September 19th at This game will be preceded at 6.45 by our Intermediate team playing Fingallians in the Quarter-Final of the Intermediate Championship. So, that night will be a great one for the club and an opportunity to see our two top men s teams competing in Championship in Parnell Park. 2

Na Fianna s Dubs Hard luck to Jonny Cooper, Tomás Brady, Niall McGovern and Dublin s Senior footballers on last Sunday s All-Ireland semi-final loss to Donegal. Also to Dublin s Minor footballers including Aaron Byrne, Jack Carey, Cathal Doran, Al Fitzgerald, Ian Jesson, Eoghan McHugh, Eoin Murchan and Glen O Reilly on their semi-final loss. Congrats to Leah Caffrey, Lucy Collins and Dublin Senior ladies footballers on their All-Ireland semi-final win over Galway on Saturday. The ladies now face the winners of Cork and Armagh in All-Ireland final on 28 th September. It was a busy weekend for Dublin on the Juvenile front with impressive Na Fianna representation. Na Fianna s Gavin King and Eoin Skelly came in for special mention for their performances with Dublin s U-17 team in last Saturday s Intercounty hurling blitz in Mallow Co. Cork. Congrats to Na Fianna s Donal Burke, Colin Currie, Seafra Fitzgerald (Captain), Peter Feeney and Dara McHugh who were all part of the Dublin U-16 side that won the Arrabawn Intercounty Hurling Tournament in Tipperary last Saturday, see pic below. Well done also to Donal Ryan, Dara Bergin, Aodhan Buggy, Sean Currie and Robert Mackey who were on the Dublin U-15 side that narrowly lost out last Saturday to Kilkenny in the Michael Foley Intercounty Hurling tournament. Dublin s U-14 A & B teams included Kevin Burke, Michaél Murphy and Fiachra Potts in Saturday s Tony Forrestal and Sonny Walsh hurling tournaments in Waterford. 3

Club Lotto This week s Na Fianna Club Lotto winning numbers were; No jackpot winner this week and no Match 3 winner. This week s Lucky pick winners: 15 each, were Ronan Nolan, Breandán Ó Laoire, Helen Purcell c/o Vinny, Margaret Courtney, Pat Fleming c/o Vinny Next jackpot 9,250, please support. Panto Time! There are just 113 days to Christmas. Oh yes there are...so it's Pantomine time in Na Fianna. Following the tremendous success of last year s Cinderella, the Panto team has reformed with a view to producing this year s version of Jack and the Beanstalk and they're looking for new talent to join the production, so it's your turn to shine! As well as onstage roles for the lunies, there are serious roles to be filled front of house, costume and set design, graphic design, lighting and sound and marketing and communication, not to mention catering! To get things going for the onstage crew there will be an open reading session in the club next Monday at 9pm. And as a starter we're in real need of an agile acting cow!! Now hold off on your nominations and consider if you could be the best cow in Na Fianna! Think not what your club can do for you BUTT what you could do for your club. All are welcome along on Monday for stage auditions but we would ask that you register your interest in advance by informing Cormac by phone on or by ing cormacodonnchu@gmail.com before next Monday. We're looking forward to what s in front of us, oh yes we are! 4

U-15 Div 1 Football Champions Congrats to our U-15 footballers on their Div1 League title which they achieved in style on Thursday night in Mobhi Road when they beat Kilmacud Crokes 2-17 to The lads captured the title with a game to spare. Well done to all concerned. Nursery Resumes The Na Fianna Nursery returns tomorrow, Saturday 6th September. Running from 9.30 to 11am each Saturday, it caters for boys and girls aged between 4 and 7. All welcome. All-Ireland Hurling Final Ticket Draw Congrats to the following members who were the lucky winners drawn out of the hat in last Wednesday night s draw for a very limited number of All-Ireland hurling final tickets. Brian O Sullivan, Mary Burns, Anne Frawley, Seosamh Ó Maolalaí, Rody Fanning, Ed Butler, Fran Cullen, Ann Ryan, Deirdre Lane, Pat O Dwyer, Michael Quinn and Gráinne Ni Riain 5

Handball News Congrats to Meadhbh Ní Dhálaigh on reaching her fourth successive Leinster Final following her U-17 A Leinster Singles semi-final win last Saturday in Na Fianna. Meadhbh is the only juvenile left standing from Dublin as she heads to Ballymitty Co Wexford this Saturday, 6 th September, to take on Kilkenny in the under 17 A Leinster Singles final and best of luck to her. Other results from last weekend s Leinster Semi Finals played in Mobhi Road were; Under 14 Doubles - Neill Donnelly and John Mc Kenna were beaten by Wexford (15-7,15-8). Under 16 Doubles - Cathal Caverly and Kevin Mc Kenna were beaten by Wexford (21-9,21-12). Well done to all our players. Na Fianna AGM Preliminary notice is given of the Na Fianna Annual General Meeting which will take place on Thursday night 9 th October in the clubhouse. Team mentors who have not yet submitted team reports should do so as soon as possible please to admin@clgnafianna.ie 6

Camáint Success Na Fianna entered three teams in last weekend s Camáint final in Parnell Park and the day proved an exciting one for all involved with mixed fortunes for our three teams. Congrats to the Na Fianna 3 team on their win. Na Fianna 3 were up against it in the semifinals against O'Dwyers and caught them on the hop in the 1st half with two quick goals as they were late and could only start with eight players so the 1st half was an eight aside game. Na Fianna held out in the 2nd half and scored another goal and point and were worthy winners at 3-06 to Into the Finals then and they were up against it playing O'Dwyers who had knocked out Na Fianna 2 by a goal in the other semi-final. A slower start to this game and we built up our momentum to go into a half time lead of 2-2 to no score and it was in the 2nd half of the finals that Na Fianna hit top gear and went on a scoring spree to be worthy winners with a final score of 6-6 to no score. Na Fianna 3 Team Na Fianna 3 team - Aonghus Brady, Breen DeRosfort, Ciarán Lambert, Cormac Pugh, Fergal Moore, Fiachra Cooney, Jack Cody, Jack Guinan, Jack Lacey, James Staines, Laurence McLoughlin, Liam Fay, Naoise O'Carroll (Captain), Noah Williams, Sam Carty, Seamus Smith 7

Na Fianna s U-12 A Hurlers A great day ended in heartbreak as the U12 A hurlers were beaten in the Camaint final when they conceded a last minute goal to lose by a point to Faughs. A great performance in the semifinal saw the lads overpower Clontarf with great determination and skill. Spirits were high going into the final with the lads fired up and they raced into a 1-4 to 0-1 lead at half time. However we didn't score again and Faughs pipped us on the line. A great day out and the lads have shown they have really improved in all facets of the game. The U-12 B also put up a great show in the Camaint Finals. First up, our boys played Liffey Gaels. The boys were a bit slow off the mark, probably due to the early 9am throw-in time and trailed 1-1 to 0-0 at half time. However, the boys really improved in the second half and give it their all. The only reward for their efforts was a well taken point from a free by Brian Conroy, see pic below. We ll never know how the ball stayed out of the Liffey Gaels net with a number of goal mouth melees and very narrow wides. The end result was 1-1 to 0-1 but great credit to all the players. It was fantastic to experience playing in Parnell Park, the home of Dublin hurling. 8

Minor Hurlers Championship Preparations In preparation for their Championship Campaign, our Minor Hurlers set their sights south last month. On Tuesday evening 12th August, they made their way to Tinryland GFC Co. Carlow to take on O Loughlin Gaels of Kilkenny in a challenge match. After a tough physical contest Na Fianna emerged the victors with a final score of 1-10 to All our hurlers contributed to the victory, and towards the end of play an injured Mark Sewell had to come off the pitch. Individual performances from Eoin Skelly, Gavin King and Luke Fenton were notable. Not content with their visit to Co. Carlow, they ventured further south on Saturday 16th August to play our old friends Sarsfields Hurling Club (we hosted their Feile Team in 2013). at Glanmire, just outside Cork City. Under ideal conditions and an almost perfect grass surface, Na Fianna came away with another victory with a final score of 1-20 to Some good saves were made by goalie Jono Treacy, and again while all hurlers made contributions to the win, some fine hurling was shown by Hugh Fenlon, Padraig Buggy, Paul O Dea, Gavin King, Peter Feeney and Luke Fenton. Luke Fenton and James Kenny in action against Sarsfiields Glanmire The Minor A Manager Declan Feeney and selectors Billy Fenlon and Paddy Oliver would like to thank our hosts on both occasions for the hospitality shown after both matches, and to all our drivers (including Club Sec. Tom Ryan) who gave of their time to transport our hurlers to and from the venues. 9

Members Subscriptions An updated list of unpaid members has been posted on the club notice board. Members are again reminded that subscriptions for the current year became due and payable immediately following the Club s AGM last October. Subs can be paid in the bar on Wednesday nights between 6.30pm and 9pm and again on Saturday mornings from 9am to 11am. Payments by card, cheque and cash will be accepted. Subscriptions can also be paid at the club office, Mon to Fri, 9am to 1pm. Lost & Found Lady s purse containing Leap card and student card was lost in Na Fianna last Friday night. If found please return it to office. A Dublin Bus Leap card was found in Collinstown earlier in the week. Owner can reclaim same by contacting the club office, tel Mon Fri 9am to 1pm. Mrs Mavis Mangan RIP Gearoid Mangan, whose mother Mrs. Mavis Mangan passed away in July, has contacted the Club in appreciation of the support that the family received during their recent loss. Myself, Aoife and the rest of the Mangan family would like to sincerely thank all the members of Na Fianna who sympathised with us in great numbers at the loss of my mother. A special thank you to all the minor girls for their show of support with club colours, it gave myself and Aoife great comfort. Again a sincere thank you to all. Gearoid. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam. 10

Comhbhrón CLG Na Fianna extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of its Mobhi Road neighbours John Lynch and Kevin Devine who lost their lives so suddenly in a drowning tragedy last Friday in Crete. John and Kevin delighted in the presence of the club quite literally on their front door step and always had a keen interest in its ongoing activities and progress. Their tragic loss will be keenly felt by their wide range of family, friends and neighbours. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha dílse. Fógra Tabachtach The objective of Na Fianna Nuacht is to communicate as much club activity as possible however it is important to note that all items for inclusion in either Club Notes or Na Fianna Nuacht are reported to pro.nafianna.dublin@gaa.ie or texted to by Sunday evening. With a membership of 2700 and approx 100 teams now competing it is difficult to ensure all club activity is reported upon Do not assume that your team s activity is already known to Na Fianna Nuacht or that someone else has reported it. When errors or omissions occur it is the policy of Na Fianna Nuacht to correct these in subsequent issues when they are reported to pro.nafianna.dublin@gaa.ie 11
