1 NEWSLETTER Sir Bruce Small Park, Ashmore Road Benowa Ph: Issue 23 EVENTS CALENDAR Junior & Youth Presentation Day Saturday 19 th September Juniors from 11:00am Youth from 5:00pm Venue: The Club Rooms Seniors Best & Fairest Presentation Night Saturday 17 th October Cost: $120 per head Venue: One50 Public House One Club One Family As most of you may be aware, early Sunday morning Bailey Atto from our Under 17's group was critically injured in a car accident. Bailey s condition is still listed as critical, he remains in ICU in an induced coma at Gold Coast University Hospital. This is absolutely devastating and every parent s worst nightmare. Our love, thoughts and prayers are with Mandy, Darin & Jackson at this time. We can t imagine the pain they are going through and we pray Bailey will make a full recovery. We are sure this accident is not only taking a toll on them emotionally but also financially. So to all our players, parents and supporters we ask you all to please donate to help the family. A fund has been set up and donations can be made via the link below. Gav, Peter and Clint will also take donations at the club any time. Click here to support #staystrongatto by Jackson Atto

2 JUNIOR & YOUTH REPORTS YOUTH REPORT SEMI FINALS (U12 s to U 17 s) A fantastic weekend for the club, hosting finals football and 2 of our teams securing great wins. Led by our AFLGCJ Youth Coach of the Year nominee, Clint Gordon, our Under 12 boys played some great team football defeating the top team Ormeau, and have now progressed to the Grand Final at Southport in 2 weeks time. Great work boys. Our under 15 Div1 team played some good footy but were beaten by a better Burleigh side in their elimination final on Saturday, while our Under 15 Div2 team secured a preliminary final berth recording a comprehensive win over Carrara on Sunday. Well done boys. Hosting 2 days of finals required many hours of preparation and organisation. I would like to thank Clint, Belinda, Roz, Rachael, Karen and many others that offered their assistance over the weekend. As expected, the club presented itself in a professional manner and importantly raised some much need funds for our Junior department. Good luck to our Under 15 Div2 s in their preliminary final this Sunday at Coomera. One club, one family Go the Dees Gavin Faulkner - Youth Director ( ) COACHES REPORTS PROFESSIONALS BUNDALL UNDER 12 s DIV 2 Congratulations boys on a super season and now you have been rewarded for all your efforts with a Grand Final appearance next weekend. The game on Sunday morning at Labrador against Ormeau was always going to be a tough one, considering they have dominated our competition all year and finish three games clear of us on the ladder. Beating them on the weekend didn t come easy nor will a premiership. We played and competed well on the weekend as we have for the previous weeks leading into finals, so I think we deserve to rest the legs this weekend and come out fresh next week. Everyone needs to focus on the week ahead as a normal weekend of footy at the same time enjoying the occasion a Grand Finals don t come around every season. Well done again guys hopefully we can string one more win together to be the Under 12 s Div 2 Premiers for Congratulations to Tom Pescud and Tom Cussen on their 50 games for the club. Best of luck boys and GO the DEE S Clint and Stu CAR AUCTIONS PACIFIC UNDER 15 s - DIV 1 Our boys had prepared well at training for the elimination final which was played at our home ground last Saturday. Perfect conditions meant for a highly skilled game which is what we expected from our opposition. Our boys struggled early but gained some momentum in the second quarter and impacted the scoreboard regularly. Burleigh kicked 2 late goals before half time then dominated play in the third quarter and opened up a commanding lead. To our boys credit we battled out the last quarter and while we didn t win the game, we walked off the field holding our heads high. Unfortunately this brings the season to and end for our Div1 team. It s been a very challenging season at times, but our focus on development resulted in 42 players having the opportunity to play Div1 football, which will undoubtedly assist their improvement in future years. The coaching group would like to thank all players, helpers and families for their assistance during the season, and we look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming presentation day. Coaches - Gav & Darren & Danny QLD DRILLING SALES & SERVICES UNDER 15 s - DIV 2 Week 1 of finals...surfers vs Carrara,..a knockout final...loose and that s the season done...win and we stay alive for another week. Simple equation...and it seems the lads figured out the answer to the equation as they comprehensively defeated Carrara to advance to a preliminary final against Pac Pines this Sunday. In a hard fought contest, Surfers were matched early on, but an intense desire to progress into week 2 of the finals prevailed and for many of them, the first time they've progressed to week 2 of a finals series. Congratulations to the lads on a great win, but with progression, the training on the track steps up a notch or 3, as prelim final game day will be no picnic. A massive challenge awaits, which I'm pretty sure the

McCann, T. Caelli SENIORS REPORT SURFERS PARADISE DEFEATED BY MORNINGSIDE The Demons went down swinging, but Morningside had a nice little tune up before their finals campaign. They did the work early, so that when Surfers Paradise came back at them, like they were always going to do, they didn t have to panic too much, knowing there is bigger fish to fry next week. Surfers were the better team in the opening ten minutes, being very proactive with ball in hand, but could only put two goals on the board through Fraser and Corbett. When Morningside settled, they were able to get the game on their terms, and make the most of it. In a ten-minute period, they put on four unanswered goals, to lead by 23 at the first change. The Panthers turned it on in the second quarter, and it was all starting from the back half. Nick Tomlinson was best on ground in game 250, setting up the play beautifully by foot. It was two goals apiece for the quarter at the 20 minute mark, but Abey was able to kick two, and Niland-Rowe one, in red time to give the Panthers a handy 46-point lead at the main break. As the rain started to fall in the second half, the Demons stepped up to the plate. Daniel Green was an absolute bull in the middle. His work rate was elite. Surfers brought themselves right back into the contest in a five goal to one quarter, to trail by 20- points at the final break. They threw everything at them, but just couldn t bridge the gap. Morningside did what they needed to do in the last, getting the win, and more importantly, staying healthy for next Sunday s do or die clash with Broadbeach. When the siren rang, Morningside were 15-points in front. That may be the last time we see the Surfers Paradise seniors this year, but they can hold their heads high. They had a crack all year, and have laid a foundation for a red-hot go in Coach s thoughts: David Lake Morningside Our first half was really good. If I m honest, once it started raining I think some of our blokes started thinking about next week. We did the work early though, which was nice. In the wet, their skill level was probably higher than ours, but we did what we needed to do. It was good to get the win, get away unscathed, and now we can focus on this weekend. Peter Young Surfers Paradise I thought we started really well, but they settled and got on top. We panicked a little bit in the second quarter. We got the run on in the last quarter, but we missed a couple of easy ones, and just ran out of time in the end. They are a really good side, full credit to them. It s good to see where we are at against a top side like them. We are there abouts, we go into next year with some real confidence. Goal Kickers: D. Green 3, H. Fraser 2, P. Rankin, J.Macansh, F. Pope, D. McConachy, T. McIntyre, N.Corbett Best Players: C. Haberfield, N. Corbett, D. Green, B.Haberfield, D. Van De Werken, F.
