1 CHILDREN S UNIVERSITY Learning Destination Watch Summer Holidays 2017 Welcome to the Summer edition of the CU Learning Destination Watch which will give you an idea of the types of activities going on in your area. Visit for full list. Please get in touch in your school and let them know what activities your children do outside of school. The theme for the 2017 Summer Reading Challenge is Animal Agents, illustrated by the UK's best-selling children's illustrator Tony Ross. This summer there's something peculiar happening at the local library - and that's where the Animal Agents come in! From solving the case of the graffiti writing to the strange case of a missing lunch, children will join in the fun with the Animal Agents by reading along. As children read library books on the Summer Reading Challenge, they will receive a host of stickers, some with mysterious smells. By collecting these clues in their detective folder, young readers will help the Animal Agents find out what's really been going on behind the

2 BIRMINGHAM Calling All Animal Agents! Take part in WiP's Animal Agents Discover in a Day. Collect a magnifying glass, become a detective for the day and hunt for clues to solve the mystery of the Cheetah. Saturday 15th July, 11-3pm at The Children's Library, Library of Birmingham. P.S. Drop into The Pen Museum for a fun, family workshop on August 12th, children can experiment with feather quills, steel pens and ink and learn to write their names using swirly calligraphy techniques! If you go down to Birmingham Botanical Gardens today, you re sure of a big surprise The annual Teddy Bears Picnic is the highlight of every Birmingham bear s calendar. Little ones and their furry friends are invited for a free picnic party (bring your own snacks or purchase from the Pavilion Tearoom), complete with children s entertainer, a magician, bouncy castle and face painting. Children are invited to dress up in their best costumes there will be a prize for the best fancy dress! 23 rd August am 3pm Price: free with general admission to the Gardens. 3 COVENTRY Time Travel with Lunt Fort! Travel back in time and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of Roman Britain! Sat 15 July Sun 16 July 10am 4pm Join us for a fun and interactive insight into the early history of Coventry, from the Iron Age to the end of the Roman occupancy all in a single day! Creative Cars! Take part in Coventry Transport Museum s manufacturing themed trail, available from reception during opening hours during the summer holidays. The cost is 1.50 and they have a range of summer craft activities available too. Visit for a full list. Worcester Get Hands On in Worcester! This summer Worcester Cathedral will be hosting an exciting new event for children and families. 4 Maize Maze! Cotsworld Farm Park is due to open its brand-new Maize Maze on 1 August This year the maze has a tractor theme, where both children and adults can enjoy getting lost in a sea of maize crop and using the clues to escape. Along the way you will find other attractions such as puzzles, play areas, kids activities and more, all related to this year s tractor theme. Our maze is attached to the Farm Park, and is located in a field very close to the visitor centre. Once you ve paid your admission to the Park, you re welcomed to come and explore the maze! If you haven t been to a Maize Maze before you ll be shocked at what a great addition to your day they offer, for a family, for friends or for your school or group. Pottery Fun! Green Frog Pottery is a pottery painting studio in Malvern, Worcestershire. We have everything you need to have fun creating your own ceramic masterpiece. Don't worry if you've never painted before - our friendly, experienced staff will give you all the help you need. It's a good idea to book a table on Saturdays and during school holidays. 6 Family Fun at Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens! Fun for all the family together.
