Students are awarded Bronze (50+ credits), Silver (100+ credits), Gold (150+ credits) and Platinum (200+ credits) so congratulations to those who have already reached the Bronze Award in less than half a term! Ice Skating Success Congratulations to Year 7 student Sadie Cook who took part in the Oxford Ice Skating Open last week. Sadie came 6th out of 14 in the event she entered; an excellent achievement. This has been a very busy half term and I hope you have a good break with your families. Mr Rudd Trip Leader SCHOOL BUS PAYMENT A reminder that the first term's payment for the School Bus is due on Friday 4 November This is a minimum of 140 for both ways or 95 for one way. Payment can be made online or by cash or cheque (made payable to Hampshire County Council or HCC) to the Finance Office. For those who have already paid no further action is required, however, if you are not sure of your outstanding balance please contact the Finance Office. All shoe box donations must be returned to school week commencing Monday 31 October as the deadline is Friday 4 November. Thank you for your support. Mrs Mbofana YEAR 10 GIRLS NETBALL TEAM The girls have really developed as a team recently. The determination and focus they displayed in their most recent match was fantastic to watch. They played a tough game against The Hurst and managed an impressive 3-3 draw (players' player Grace Shackleton). Well done girls, keep it up! Miss Wijeratne Y11 NETBALL TEAM ARE BASINGSTOKE CHAMPIONS...AGAIN! Never have I seen a match that two teams have fought so hard to win! In the first quarter the score was even, however we thought our game was over in the second quarter...challoner were winning by 7 goals to 3. However

Chante Pellet did it again, she scored the winning goal making the final score The girls jumped, cried and hugged each other - they were so happy and proud to have won again with the score so close. Some outstanding play from all, a special mention to Amber Clare who received players player in the Semi-Final (beating Costello 21-1) and in the Final. She wrestled the opposition to the ground on some occasions to win the ball. Most of the team will now be playing on Saturday 22 October in the County competition against schools in Hampshire, we wish them luck! Our Halloween menu will be served on Monday 31 October and our Bonfire Fun menu will be served on Friday 4 November. Regards Mrs Billings Kitchen Manager GIRLS RUGBY Congratulations to all the girls that have played in the Girls Rugby Development days at Basingstoke Rugby Club (Year 7-10) over the past few weeks. We have had a good turn out with some of the girls joining the club out of school. After half term Miss Cook will be running the Girls Rugby club on a Thursday 3.00pm 4.00pm. If you would like to join, just turn up with football boots (you may borrow some from the shoe cupboard) and a gum shield if you can purchase one. We are looking to start a team to play other schools in the near future. TRAMPOLINE CLUB Trampoline club will resume on the second week back after half term, however it will be on a Wednesday 3.00pm pm only and be free. Watch this space for further information on how to sign up.

3 Shoe Box Appeal Link to Hope is a Christian Charity established since 1991 and dedicated to rebuilding lives and communities in Eastern Europe by supporting Education and Social Care projects in Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Bulgaria What can I do to help? We are looking for as many Aldworth students to get involved and make a shoebox to be sent to family in need. The shoebox must be a medium size and the base and lid wrapped individually. The shoebox must be filled with suitable items from the list below and 2 attached. The box must be secured with an elastic band. Suitable items: Personal grooming items - Toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo/shower gel (max 300ml), plasters, bar of soap, flannel, nail,clippers/scissors, brush/comb, tissues, hankerchiefs, small mirror, brush and comb Treats - Sweets, chocolate and hair accessories Fun stuff - Crayons and felt tips, pens, pencils, colouring books, travel-sized games, such as dominoes, draughts and playing cars, small toys, such as yoyo s, skipping ropes, bouncy balls, puzzles, balloons, teddies/dolls/soft toys (which have CE labels) School items - Solar powered calculators, pens and pencils, pencil rubbers and sharpeners N.B Handmade knitted toys are very welcome but are not to be put inside the shoeboxes - please take them along to your tutor when you take your shoeboxes. EXTRA ITEMS FOR SHOEBOXES ESPECIALLY ELDERLY Shopping bag strong cotton cloth Wooden spoon or spatula Cloth hankies (men s sizes) Hand knitted woolly hat Soap unscented Nail brush/ tooth brush Plastic shoe horn (often given away by stores) Thimble Scarf square or men s straight type (light weight) Waist apron cotton homemade Marigolds* Small magnifier Do not include: medicines or medical products money tinned food perfume coffee, tea or alcohol out of date items books or literature All shoeboxes must be returned to school with a 2 donation the week commencing Monday 31 October The deadline for all shoeboxes to be in school is Friday 4 November There will be a prize for the tutor group who donates the most shoeboxes.
