3 Jorge Morales Vice President Aerifica(on As many golfers may be aware. The season of aerifying greens has once again reached. As I m sure many golfers are frustrated this (me of year, myself included. Let me tell you why golf course greens needs to be aerified during this (me of year and why it is so beneficial to the golf course and golfers as well. First off, aerifica(on helps make grass healthier and reduces the amount of poten(al problems that the course may face throughout the summer. When aerifica(on is done, the level of oxygen going into the soil and roots is much improved which leads to healthier grass. In addi(on, it reduces thatch build up. Thatch, is the amount of dead grass that accumulates on the turf and builds up to a thicker layer which can prevent the turf from absorbing all the rain and nutrients needed to stay healthy as well as maintaining a beeer pufng surface. Also, because the roots are much stronger in result of aerifying the green, the uptake of nutrients such as fer(lizer and some other aminos become more available. Finally, it relieves compac(on of the soil. Compacted soil can prevent water, air, and fer(lizer from movement and the uptake of the roots. To conclude, the boeom line, it s all about making the greens beeer. Roughly by the 3rd week the greens will be 80% depending on weather and by week 4 one should see the greens running like if we were playing in The Masters.

5 Doug Peterson - Treasurer From the Treasurer---As March rushes in and Spring about to begin, we find ourselves with monies still in the bank ($14,037.75) and thus remain "solvent" going forward. Our SCGA renewal bill has been paid...we have 178 members in various stages of activity...as have all financial obligations from last month...team Play, tournaments, deposits, and Super Bowl loses, etc (just seeing if you are paying attention). Should your treasury need funds in the near future, we can probably find your President, Mr. Gallant, with Super Bowl winnings still in his pockets,...or maybe Dustin Johnson could part with some of his $1.9 mil check from last weeks stop in Mexico City. The point, we still have fiscal means despite the fact that the Rams couldn't score a touchdown in their biggest game of the year...but I digress. Since it will soon be Spring, it must also be time to begin our discussion of the 38th Annual Spring Fling Golf Tournament being held on May 3rd and 4th at Indian Springs Golf Club in Indio. The entry fee of $265 covers two days of golf, cart, prize money and cocktail party Friday night at Homewood Suites in LaQuinta. We will have an 8:00 am shotgun start both days, with different teams and format each day. Optional gross and net "skins" will also be part of our "flighted" competition. Reduced hotel rates of $105-$130 for tournament participants, can be reserved by calling 1(760) , and using the LARV men's club code of "LRV". Please refer to the attached flyer for specific details on the tournament. Our weekend of play is a popular time in Palm Springs so get your rooms reserved early if you can. We can get more rooms if they are available but it may be difficult after the first week of April. If you have any questions, ask a board member or call me at 714) and we'll do our best to have answers for you. It's a relaxed tournament with very laid back formats...help when you can and don't worry about your score...plus you might see some old friends from days gone by. Get your entries in and come out and enjoy the fun. Of last note, with the cool weather and bountiful rainfall this winter, LARV is actually starting to show some green in the fairways. Divots in newly grown grass recover much quicker if filled with sand. Use it today, and have a playable shot next month from the same place when the sun and warmth of Spring reward us for our efforts. It's our course and we can help to make it better with just a little bit of thought.

6 Rules of Golf Rule 15.3 Ball or Ball-Marker Helping or Interfering with Play a. Ball on Putting Green Helping Play Rule 15.3a applies only to a ball at rest on the putting green, not anywhere else on the course. If a player reasonably believes that a ball on the putting green might help anyone s play (such as by serving as a possible backstop near the hole), the player may: Mark the spot of the ball and lift it under Rule 13.1b if it is his or her own ball, or if the ball belongs to another player, require the other player to mark the spot and lift the ball (see Rule 14.1). The lifted ball must be replaced on its original spot (see Rule 14.2). In stroke play only: A player who is required to lift a ball may play first instead, and If two or more players agree to leave a ball in place to help any player, and that player then makes a stroke with the helping ball left in place, each player who made the agreement gets the general penalty (two penalty strokes). During a Team Play Match this Rule came up. Player A & B are playing against player C & D. Players B s ball is on the green near the hole and player A is chipping up. Players B s ball could be helping player A s ball. Player C requested Player B to mark his ball because he indicated it would be helping player A. Player B would not make the ball. What is the ruling? The ruling for 4 ball, match play is if an opponent request a ball that may assist another player be marked, it must be marked. If the player will not make the ball, his score will not be counted on the hole.

8 Thoughts To Play By Thorough preparation breeds confidence. A complete game plan anticipates all the contingencies that can arise in a round of golf. The right strategy for a given hole is dictated first by the strengths of a players game. There is a difference between planning confidently and planning recklessly. 9 Tim Devaney Past President These observations and comments came with in 24 hours after our miserable attempt at trying to secure a spot in the team- play sectionals. Talk about bad luck, after talking to some of my teammates, we have our quota for the year. One of the guys wife made him join a bridge club. He jumps off next Tuesday. Kevin B. went to see his doctor and told him every morning when he gets up and looks in the mirror he feels like throwing up. He asked the doctor, whats wrong with me? The doctor said : "Nothing, your eyesight is perfect. Craig O. told me that his girl friend was such a bad cook, if they left dental floss in the kitchen the roaches hang themselves. Randy J. said, he could tell his parents hated him. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio. Kevin S. said his family was so poor that if he hadn t been born a boy." I wouldn t have anything to play with. Jorge told me he was going start playing less golf and spend more time with his family, I told him, you should check with your family. And finally, My wife likes to talk to me during love making, last night she called me from a hotel. Talk about bad luck..
