2 Memorandum Dear NGCA Members, For the first time since 2000, the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) is heading to the bright lights of Las Vegas for the 08/09 NGCA Member Convention. Slated for December 9-11, 2008 at Harrah s Las Vegas Hotel & Casino located directly on the famous Las Vegas Strip, this convention is a can t miss opportunity for all women's collegiate golf coaches to break away from the daily grind of coaching and join your peers for a few days of education, networking, and my guess just a little bit of fun! Response has been overwhelmingly positive with the change in dates from our normal slot in January to early December. We anticipate a record turnout and as a result, the NGCA is planning an unforgettable Convention! This year s program includes distinguished presenters along with various NCAA Legislative and Golf Committee Meetings. As well, the NGCA will honor former players and coaches with our Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and once again, the NGCA Corporate Sponsor Expo with golf industry product and service providers will take place on the opening evening of December 9. For the 2nd consecutive year, the NGCA will host a 1-1/2 day USGA Rules of Golf Workshop to take place on December 8 (full day) and December 9 (half day, morning). And, returning this year, the Convention will include a one day LPGA Workshop on December 9 featuring Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott. Both of these events are held in advance of the main convention opening and require a separate registration fee. To follow is a convention prospectus including the Schedule of Events and Registration Form. I encourage you to complete the form and return by the registration deadline of November 21. If you have never attended the NGCA Member Convention (or it has been a few years), the Vegas Convention is without a doubt the time to come! 3 Two Pre-Convention Workshops December 8-9, USGA RULES OF GOLF Workshop For the 2nd consecutive year, and in response to requests from numerous coaches across the country, the NGCA will again host a USGA Intermediate Rules of Golf Workshop at this year s convention The workshop will be led by Brad Gregory Vice Chairman of the PGA of America Rules Committee and Lorraine Thies, assistant executive director of the Arizona Golf Association. In order to customize our workshop, rules regarding fourball and foursome play will not be discussed so that time can be spent concentrating on things that are most important for college coaches. The workshop will be held on Monday, December 8 at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude on Tuesday, December 9 at 1:00 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $175 (space is limited). Each attendee will receive a rules book and decisions book along with a sample tests on the rules. Day 1 of the workshop will be in the classroom with Day 2 will be outdoors on the practice facility. Following the outdoors portion, a final rules test will be given. All coaches who attend the workshop will receive a certificate and those who achieve a proficiency score of 85% on the test will have a letter sent to the athletic director of the coach acknowledging successful completion of the workshop. The NGCA Board of Directors feels that rules awareness and proficiency should be a cornerstone for all members. As a result, all NGCA members will be strongly urged to become rules-qualified once every four years. For NGCA members who are members of the LPGA and/or PGA, this workshop will be submitted for educational certification points. Due to space limitations this year, we will only be able to accommodate the first 50 coaches that register. Last year, the workshop sold out quickly so please register as soon as possible. 2 LPGA Workshop Featuring Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott, Creators of VISION54 The workshop will be a continuation of the summer workshop where coaches will learn more about the perfect practice for their teams. Pia and Lynn will review their views on practice as a starting point, so all coaches will start with the basics. They will then cover practice warm up, maintenance and preparation. The goals of the workshop are to 1) increase coaching competence; 2) integrate the game's elements; 3) practice productively; 4) be your own best coach. Pia and Lynn will have extensive handouts with drills, games and worksheets to assist the coaches with practice. The cost of the workshop is $325 for LPGA Members and $375 for non-members of the LPGA (space is limited).

Coaches will be asked to work within their table team to tackle challenges head on and come to a consensus to address these issues and deliver a report to the collective group of attendees. This session will serve as an excellent opportunity for everyone to meet other coaches and spend time in a small group setting. Each time you play the course conditions are different. You need the right equipment and the right coach to help you realize your goals and dreams no matter the challenge. This presentation will focus on the importance for coaches to develop a financial plan to determine one s income during their retirement years. We will emphasize the need to start sooner rather than later (i.e. The Rule of 72 and 114). We will also highlight unique ways in which attendees can maximize their savings plans. Everyone will walk away with an understanding of the factors that will affect their retirement income needs allowing them to better position their assets.

6 NGCA Convention Registration Information CONVENTION REGISTRATION DEADLINES In order to facilitate proper planning for this convention, we ask that you submit your registration to NGCA Headquarters by no later than Friday, November 21, Convention Registration includes attendance to all education and business sessions; convention written materials; attendance at the NGCA Corporate Sponsor Expo & Reception and Hall of Fame Reception & Banquet; (2) breakfasts and (1) lunch. PGA/LPGA Certification points are available for PGA of America and LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division Members. Please include your PGA and/or LPGA membership number(s) on the registration form. HOUSING ASSISTANCE If you plan to attend the NGCA Convention and would like to share a hotel room with another NGCA member, please contact NGCA Headquarters at (800) We will place your name on a housing list and pair you with another member that requests the same. However, NGCA can not guarantee its ability to pair you with another member. CONVENTION CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellations must be made in writing to NGCA Headquarters and postmarked by Monday, December 1, Upon receipt of your cancellation, NGCA will refund your convention registration fee less a $50 processing fee. Cancellations received after December 1, 2008 are not eligible for a refund; however, your convention registration is transferable.
