The works will commence on Monday 13th April with a volunteer working bee to remove the surface of the existing green first thing that day. 2 Page 2 Ladies Golf News Lady Captains Report. Last week we had 6 ladies travel to Warrnambool to play in the Robinson Bowl, No trophies to be seen, but socially very successful. Earlier this week 3 ladies played in the Anglesea Ocean Spray event. Each year we put a team in this event and the ladies always enjoy the course. Pennant begins at the end of this month, we have a team in Division 2, thanks to the ladies who put their hand up to represent the Club. Also towards the end of the month we are hosting our Annual Cancer Day, this is an open day so hope to see lots of guests coming to support us. We will also be joined by the bowling ladies for lunch and there will be a well stocked produce stall. All proceeds go to the Fiona Elsey Research Centre. Grounds News The Grounds Development Committee met recently are were pleased to be able to bring the 8th green project to fruition. The next task is to identify projects for the next 5 years and develop costings and timeframes for these. Many will be based on member feedback from the recent survey and focus group meetings. The new path around the 13th / 15th tees has been a great improvement as well as reducing the maintenance issues with wash away areas.

4 Page 4 Mens Golf News Captain s Corner Well the new members are arriving in droves. Welcome all and if I don t track you down in the first few weeks of your arrival, please seek me out because I want to make sure you all get the low down on what we try to do here at Chally. I m usually to be found in the Members Bar before golf of a Saturday or Thursday. Our February Medal winner must have taken some lessons from his Brooch winning wife, because John Shaw has been turning in some very good scores recently. Net 67 Monthly Medal win followed by 42 points 2 Saturdays later, Mr. Handicapper would have caught up with you in the old days. There s been a lot of noise being made recently by a certain group of members about their dominance of the Premier League Competition. The Grand Final will coincide with the last round of the club championships on 28 th March so there is still a chance for the leaders to get the Colliwobbles. Four matches to go J-Ping s 12 point lead could turn into a 4 point deficit. Check out the leader board at the end of this bulletin. I know the competition has been accepted with mixed feelings around the club, but one thing I am certain of, and that is the amount of interest it has generated can only be good for our club, and I m sure our Saturday field numbers have increased as a result and members have postponed other commitments to help out their team on many occasions. Coming into Pennant season we have had a good deal of interest shown by members wanting to play in our Division 3 team and my sincere thanks to the 8 gents who have already put their names on the list. You will all get more than one round in at least because we always need reserves. However our Vets are conspicuous by their absence. We need a team of 5 to enter the comp and I m extremely disappointed to see we can t get that. If you re over the age of 55 as at 1 st January 2015 and have a pulse, we need you. Chalambar Vets travel the world to play golf socially so how about helping out your club for a few Sundays so we can field a team in the Division. If you need more information ring me or see me at the club. The last thing I want is for this newsletter item to seem like a whinge from the captain but that s how it s turning out. Last year we tried a few Sunday social mornings which turned out to be quite successful and went a long way to creating good fellowship among both ladies and men. With the opening of our great Bistro of a Sunday now, we thought we d get a much better reception to a Sunday morning 9 hole comp followed by brunch in the Bistro. I ve been at the club every Sunday morning since the opening of the bistro and there has been only one other member turn up. We had a nice round of golf and the Bistro meal that followed was outstanding. So if you feel like joining in of a Sunday morning please register your interest by ringing me on Enough whingeing from me now have a giggle. Happy Hitting and fill those divots!! Gricey

5 50 SHADES OF GOLF Four guys have been going to the same golfing trip to St Andrews for many years. Two days before the group is to leave, Jack s wife puts her foot down and tells him he isn't going His mates are very upset that he can't go, but what can they do? Two days later, the three get to St Andrews only to find Jack sitting at the bar with four drinks set up! "Wow, how long have you been here, and how did you talk your missus into letting you go?" "Well, I've been here since last night." The other night, I was sitting in the lounge-room and my wife came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes and asked, 'Guess who? I pulled her hands off, and there she was, wearing a sexy nightie?. She took my hand and pulled me into the bedroom. The room had candles and rose petals all over. Well, she's been reading '50 Shades of Grey'! On the bed she had handcuffs, and ropes! She told me to tie her up and cuff her to the bed, so I did. And then she said, "Do whatever you want." 7 Page 7 Bowls News Mens Bowls On the 14 th of February Chalambar Division 1 played Aradale in the qualifying final at VRI bowl club winning 3 rinks and losing the other rather badly we managed to scrape home by 9 shots. Last weekend Stawell Golf defeated Aradale in the preliminary final. Chalambar v Stawell Golf in the grand final to be played at Ararat on the 14 th March. Roger Young capped off a great year by winning the Division Singles Championship at Stawell last weekend. He defeated Mal Curnow from Lake Bolac in the final. Good Luck to all the bowlers for the 14 th President Peter Dohnt Lady Bowlers News Our Wednesday social bowls have not been well attended with the green closed for part of the month, hot weather and sickness. Hopefully things will improve in March. The B Grade final was very exciting with Jan Ayer and Dawn Brennan playing some beautiful bowls. Jan won Jan was presented with a framed certificate by President Pam and then they and spectators adjourned to club house for champagne and nibbles Chalambar had three teams representing the club at Aradale on February 5. The team of Bev Morrison, Alice Young and Marj Harricks were runners-up. The first Semi-Final of Pennant was played at Aradale on February 16 th with Stawell Golf Pink thru to the final and Stawell Black and White to play each other for the other place in the final. On February 19 th Pam Williams, Karen Brennan and Marg Robson won the Landsborough Two Bowl Triples and Marg Robson also won the Ditch to Ditch. The Challi ladies had a day out at V.R.I on February 26 th and played in the Three Bowl Triples. Consolation went to Ellen Werry, Eileen Sherwell and Karen Brennan with 78 shots, Alice Young, Joyce Wright and Marj Harricks were runners-up with 79 shots and the winners on 81 shots up were Pam Williams, Marg Robson and Dawn Brennan. 8 Page 8 A Message from President Geoff The numbers at our last lunch were somewhat depleted, owing to the fact that many were enjoying themselves at Port Fairy. We received a letter from the secretary of Chalambar Golf Club notifying us that a letter from Mr Reg Wiltshire would be discussed at their next meeting. I will not disclose the contents as the result of that discussion will most likely appear in the next Newsletter. The clubs most Senior golfing member had a birthday last week. Congratulations Marshall and hope you have many more. Veterans Report Monday 2 nd February 13 members played at Stawell. Tony Rees was R/UP in B grade, John Pola won the long drive and balls went to Phil Hall, John Berg, Des Hull, Rob Porter, Ian Gibson, John Pola and Ken Farrar. Thursday 4 th February, 14 veterans played at Buninyong. Daryl Dunford won A grade Vern Poole won B grade, Tony Rees won nearest the pin. Vern Poole had an eagle and balls went to Des Hull, Frank Kitchen, Tony Rees, Wilf Dickeson and Ken Farrar. Monday 16 th February, Chalambar had a good day at Horsham. John Pola won A grade, Jim Leeke won B grade. Balls went to John Berg, Rob Porter, Ian Gibson and Ken Farrar. John Berg also won a ball in the pro comp. The next Wimmera Days. Monday 2 nd March Warracknabeal. The next Ballarat Day.Thursday 5 th March at Chalambar. Don t Forget Easter Tuesday at Chalambar. Joke of the Month During my physical examination, my doctor asked me about my physical activity level. I described a typical day: "Well, yesterday afternoon, I took a five hour walk about 7 miles through some pretty rough terrain. I waded along the edge of a lake. I pushed my way through brambles. I got sand in my shoes and my eyes. I avoided standing on a snake. I climbed several rocky hills. I took a few 'leaks' behind some big trees. The mental stress of it all left me shattered. the end of it all I drank eight beers." Inspired by the story, the doctor said, "You must be one hell of an outdoors man Commando?!"
