1 Alison Umberger Address 5713 Honilea Drive Broad Run, VA Education EDUCATION: I attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska where I received a B.A. in Economics and German, with minors in Communication and Women's Studies. I spent the spring semester of my junior year as an exchange student at the University of Trier in Trier, Germany. For graduate school, I attended the American University School of International Service in Washington, DC and received an MA in International Affairs with an emphasis on International Economic Policy. I spent the spring semester of my second year as a visiting student at the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies in Bologna, Italy. Finally, I received a JD from the George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia. BUSINESS/PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: I have worked as an Attorney-Advisor with U.S. Customs and Border Protection since April Prior to that I held internships with various U.S. government agencies and private businesses while attending graduate school and law school (please see my resume for more details). In 2015, I was appointed to the Virginia Horse Industry Board. The 12- member Board is responsible for the promotion and economic development of the horse industry in Virginia. Board activities and responsibilities include: reviewing grant proposals annually and considering projects in the areas of education, marketing, and research; supporting economic impact studies, educational seminars, and projects such as the Virginia State 4-H Horse Show; supporting research in key equine health areas such as lameness, obesity, nutrition, and respiratory diseases; and publishing free informational materials for adults, children and youth leaders.

2 From 2009 to 2015, I served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter of JDRF since JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. During my time on the board, I served as Public Outreach Chair, Research Information Volunteer, and helped grow a social network of almost 400 adults living with type 1 diabetes in the DC metropolitan area. I have also participated in numerous fundraising events including the Walk to Cure Diabetes, the Hope Gala, and the Ride to Cure Diabetes. Along with friends and family I have helped to raise over $53,000 for T1D research. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Bridle Paths Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies, a relatively young therapeutic riding program in Leesburg, Virginia. I have also served on the Board of Directors for the Nebraska Society of Washington, DC and as a regional representative on the Alumni Executive Council for Nebraska Wesleyan University. I am a Lifetime Member of the American Paint Horse Association, the Pinto Horse Association of America, and the National Snaffle Bit Association. I began showing Paints as a Youth in Nebraska. I inherited a love of breeding horses from my father and grandfather; together we raised five foals out of my first Paint mare. I successfully showed all but one of the foals and marketed and sold all five foals as well as the four horses that my parents bought during my youth years. In 2015, I had the opportunity to buy back the very first foal that I raised, Heza Genuine Titan. He is now 21 years old and still making kids smile as a therapy horse in the Bridle Paths program in Leesburg, Virginia. I participated in the Nebraska 4-H Horse Program, the Nebraska Paint Horse Club, the Nebraska Pinto Horse Association, and several open show circuits. I competed as a Youth and Amateur at APHA shows

3 throughout the Midwest. I was also involved with the Nebraska Draft Horse and Mule Association through my father. I moved to the DC area in 2003 and took a temporary break from the show ring to attend graduate school and law school. I continued to ride by taking lessons at Rock Creek Stables in Washington, DC and Woodlawn Stables in Alexandria, Virginia. After I finished school, I began volunteering with a therapeutic riding program in McLean, Virginia. I have been involved with therapeutic riding in some capacity ever since. I was able to return to riding my own horse in the summer of 2009 and have been competing at APHA shows throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic since that time. I currently own nine registered Paint horses. I have participated in the Virginia Paint Horse Club Breeders Futurity since 2012 and had my first Virginia Bred foal in I am a strong supporter of futurity and incentive programs and have participated in the Farnam Sale Stakes as well as the Premier Paint Sires program and the Reichert Celebration Sale. My foals are nominated to the APHA Breeders Trust and Breeders Trust Futurity, the NSBA Stallion Incentive Fund and Breeders Championship Futurity, and the AQHA Incentive Fund. I believe that I bring a well-rounded perspective having been involved in the industry as an owner, member, regional and national representative, breeder, and exhibitor.
