1 Clutch Chatter Newsletter of the Victoria British Car Club I had a beautiful picture of Ian s carburetor that did not show the Tuned & Maintained by John Twist sticker. This made Ian s day a success in Niagara. I had to make sure it made this issue. He now has bragging rights in the MG crowd. Mosport June 21 st, Father s Day Event I wanted to write about the Mosport event for those that did not have a chance to attend. There were two cars from the VBCC Ian Mcnab s 1970 MG Midget, Tim Hall s 1986 TVR & Bill and Linda attended Mosport with their GMC Van. The weather man predicted rain on and off all day, but no rain happened. The weather at one point was too hot. We spent the time walking around looking at the beautiful cars at the show plus the racing cars that were in the pits. It is always fun to watch the races. The roar of their engines and the speed was amazing. Being there just added to the excitement of the day

3 This Audi was going around the track on Sunday. The speed was 185 miles an hour on the straight away, it was awesome Frank DeCarlo: A 90 th Birthday Wish Comes True In late April I received a call one evening from a very special person, Lori, who had obtained my phone number through Ron Hunter and the VBCC Website I believe. Lori lives in Lindsay but her Father-in-law was about to have his 90 th birthday and he lives in Bobcaygeon. Now 90 years is a special birthday for anyone but Lori wanted to make her Father-in-law s even more special. She asked him what he would like for his birthday and he said a ride in an MGB? So, Lori was making a pitch to me to see if I knew anyone who would be willing to rent their MGB for such an event. This led us into a long conversation about British cars and British car owners. I told her it was highly unlikely that anyone would be prepared to rent their car even for such a special event. The other complicating factor was that this was to happen on the same day as our Annual General Meeting. I then asked why an MGB; was it that her father-in-law had owned one or was it something else? No, he never owned one but he just thought a ride in a British Sports car would be neat and an MGB was the first one that came to mind. I agreed that it would be neat, but then went on to convince her that it would be much better if it was a Triumph for such a special occasion. When I sent her a picture of the TR3 that sealed the deal. On May 3 rd, in the beautiful late afternoon sun the extended family of Joe Groenendyk (The Birthday Boy) had gathered at his home on County Road 24 just outside the village of Bobcaygeon, to celebrate the birthday. Unbeknownst to Joe, I arrived in the driveway in the TR3 shortly afterward and revved the engine several times to get his attention. Joe came out with a smile from ear to ear. He wanted to know if they had bought this car for his birthday. No I said, but I am here to take you for a drive around Bobcaygeon. We hit it off right away and he literally jumped into the car and off we went for a spin. He loved it and I thoroughly enjoyed this man s company. When we returned he joked with all the family who were waiting that he was going to buy the car. I have to say that both Joe and I enjoyed the outing very much and I was honored to be part of his Birthday celebration. If any members of the Club have an opportunity to do something like this I highly recommend it

4 You made someone s wish come true Frank with such a beautiful British Car Car Run July 4 th, - Bala Run - Dave and Noreen Grant, Stuart and Vicki Salt Thank you very much Ian for creating this document for the Clutch It was a perfect day for driving our LBC s with sunny skies and dry roads. Eleven adventurers met at Dave and Noreen Grant s home in Orillia on Saturday morning at 10:00. Noreen and Dave had prepared goodie bags for all of us filled with many wonderful items including toques to keep our heads warm if the drive turned cool (it didn t) and a unique microfiber cloth for cleaning glass and mirrors. We visited for a while and welcomed new Club members Stuart and Vicki Salt before starting our drive. Led by Dave and Noreen, we headed up County Road 44 through Washago and onto Hwy 11 for the short run to Gravenhurst where we exited and drove through the town. Winding our cars down past the waterfront docks we headed along Muskoka Road 169 to Bala stopping at the Bala Bay Inn built in A meal and good fellowship followed on the patio of the Inn. Several great items were raffled off in support of Noreen and Dave s charity cause, Autism Ontario. On the return drive to Orillia we took Southwood Road. This is a twisty, turney road and truly awesome to drive in our LBCs on. Great fun for all of us! Thanks go to Dave and Noreen for organizing this run and to Stuart and Vicki for assisting them with a fun day for us all

6 Brits In The Park July 19 th, Allan and Lori Watson Congratulations on your first year Well, another Brit s is a success. There were 150 cars present at the event, better than last year s attendance. The weather was a little unpredictable in the morning but all in all it turned out quite nice for the morning and the rain held off until about 4:00PM which hopefully was long enough for most British cars to be home safe and sound. Allan and Lori Watson did a fantastic job organizing and promoting the Brits-in-the-Park. Allan was interviewed on Bob FM on July 13 th telling all listeners about the Event and it was also promoted on Canoe FM, a Haliburton radio station. Attendees and the public also were commenting on how much they enjoyed the show and look forward to attending next year. There were a lot more different cars this year. 9 The Girls Night Out Friday, July 24th Organizers Bev Newman and Linda Legere A total of 18 girls attended our night of shopping at The Kawartha Store in Fenelon Falls. There were 8 VBCC girls, 3 from the Ross Memorial Hospital, and 7 from the Red Hat Group. It was a fun night with the girls just being together and trying on clothes and having a sip of wine. The Kawartha Store in Fenelon Falls closed its doors to the public at 7:00PM so we had a private party and great attention from the staff. We all left the store with a bag of goodies. 10 Ice Cream Run July 28 th Diane and Bob Gardiner Could have not asked for a better evening to do an ice cream run to Bobcaygeon. There were 12 cars attending. We all met at Fowler s Corners for 6:00PM. It was a great route to follow along Yankee Line to Peace Road, on to Sturgeon Road and made our way to Snug Harbour Road. What a beautiful area along Snug Road, the homes/cottages are very nicely kept, nice lots, and on the water. Went around Snug Harbour Road back on to Hwy 36 into Bobcaygeon. The total run was an hour which was nice for a short run
