Each activity is focused at different pre-school and school grades and we now invite your school to participate in these activities. Some of the activities require some pre-show work but others are activities based at the Show itself. See full list below! 4 excursion activities the Show The variety of animals can be viewed every day, including: Boer Goats (goat care and handling demonstration) Alpacas Miniature Goats Guinea Pigs Thearle Electrical Animal Nursery Championship Cats (Saturday only) Championship Dogs (Saturday only) The Macadamia Castle Animal Shows Beef Cattle Dairy Cattle Working Dogs (Thursday only) Reptile World Poultry & Pigeons Horses Show Jumping & Stockhorse events Thearle Electrical Animal Nursery Viv's Farm Animals is a farmyard of 40 sheep, lambs, goats, kids, alpacas, crias, plus hens, chickens and ducks! All the animals are tame and everyone is encouraged to cuddle and pat them. In fact "tame" might be an understatement for some of the animals! 5 RSPCA EMU Education Van The RSPCA Qld Education Mobile Unit (EMU) is a state of the art classroom on wheels, offering an interactive journey and play based learning about animal welfare for children and adults alike. Since 2002 EMU has reached more than 440,000 people. EMU offers exciting multi-media enhanced learning stations that engage children & adults alike in interactive hands-on activities. Each learning centre focuses on key animal welfare issues faced by the community, educating visitors how they can take action to address these issues. EMU will be operating the entire three days of the North Coast National and is proudly supported by the Lismore City Council Rangers. The Macadamia Castle Animal Shows Don t miss the exciting Macadamia Castle animal shows this year at the Lismore Show. Get up close and personal with a variety of our local native wildlife bearded dragons, blue tongue lizards, the impressive woma and spotted pythons and more. Discover intimate details about their habits with an opportunity to handle some of the reptiles too! Meet Jezebel the baby black cockatoo - the newest addition to our bird show. Loads of interactive fun for everyone! Steve McEwan s Reptile World Reptile World is an exciting and professional reptile display that brings to you some of the world s most venomous snakes, including the Taipan, Brown snake, Tiger snake and many more. We also offer the opportunity to see and touch some local lizards and a large python (Leroy the Black-headed python or Samantha the Carpet python). Friday & Saturday only Shows every hour! 5

For over 160 years they have never failed to please. Lorraine Ashton is a fifth generation performer from this world famous circus family. Come join in the thrills, laughter and amazement under the big top. Entertainment for the whole family that bridges age barriers! 7 Farmer for a Day Challenge This program gives the opportunity for students to attend the Show and learn more about what it means to be a farmer in Australia and importantly where their food comes from. There will be interactive exhibits and displays will be open from 10am to 7pm each day. A competition devoted to School Students throughout the Northern Rivers designed to encourage students to celebrate country life, sustainability and farming and compete in their local Show to showcase their school and knowledge. How do you enter? 1. Each school or class submits an Entry Form and payment for the entry fees ed to secretary@northcoastnational.com.au 2. Each school submits the labelled exhibits to the Lismore Showground office by the due dates below What does it cost to enter? The entry fee is $10 per school. This fee covers any number of entries in any of the Schools Exhibits category. Upon receipt of entry form an invoice will be created with payment details. How is the work judged and exhibited? Suitably qualified experts judge all exhibits before the commencement of the North Coast National Exhibition. Results will be displayed for the duration of the Exhibition All judging decisions are final and are not subject to appeal or protest How do you deliver and collect exhibits? 14 Wheelbarrow Garden Competition This year your school can create their own garden in the confines of an ordinary wheelbarrow. Transform that rusty, neglected wheelbarrow behind the school shed into a stunning Local landscape. This is a great opportunity for school students to learn and apply their gardening skills in a fun, competitive environment. Some examples of a Local landscape may include Nimbin Rocks, Mount Warning, Byron Bay Lighthouse or the Lismore Showgrounds etc. Entries close Friday 29 th September. 21 BEEF CATTLE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMME THURSDAY EDUCATION DAY A Program for High School Agricultural Students will be run on Thursday 19 th October at the Lismore Showground Cattle Ring 8.30am Start The focus will be an education day on Beef Cattle. Students will receive instruction on Steer and Female Cattle assessment, how to select, prepare and parade Cattle. Teachers will need to nominate numbers of students they will be bringing, broken down into 2 groups: (1) Novice or (2) Intermediate & Advanced. NOTE: All students receive information on selecting the type of animal being judged, before they have to assess the cattle themselves. Students will need a biro. A concession entry for students accompanied by a teacher will be $5.00 each. The SCHOOLS LED STEER COMPETITION is run on Thursday 19 th. 22 DAIRY CATTLE YOUTH PROGRAMME FRIDAY 20th OCTOBER am: Competitors to register at the Stewards Office (beside the canteen) 10.30am: Assemble at Judging rings (this will be at the completion of heifer classes) Competitors must have already registered at the Stewards Office. Short talk on Judging Techniques/Anatomy of a Cow plus a careers address on Youth Involvement in the Dairy Industry. This will be followed by Junior Judging then Junior Paraders RULES & REGULATIONS 1. Age of competitors are to be taken from the day of competition 2. In Paraders competition, paraders may use their own or borrowed show animals providing all animals paraded are exhibited in general classes 3. Competitors will be required to assess two groups of four cows. There will be approximately six finalists in each division of the competition. Finalists will be required to judge a further group of four cows and make an oral presentation of reasons for their placings. 4. There will be no contact of any kind by any competitor with any person who is a spectator or competitor at the Youth Programme from the beginning of the competition until results are announced. Any such contact will result in disqualification. 5. Suitable attire must be worn, including covered shoes, either breed or school uniform. 6. Mobile phones are to be turned off while in the judging ring. 7. First & second placegetters in Class 2001 are eligible to compete in the State Final at the Royal Easter Show provided they reside within the boundaries of Group One and are aged over 15 and under 25 years on 1 st May Please contact the North Coast National office or website for full details on rules & regulations.
