The previous record was 17,778 in UNLV's first home game of the season. double-figure scoring to open the season So far this season, six Runnin' Rebel players are averaging double figures in scoring: Anthony Bennett (17.0 ppg), Anthony Marshall (12.5), Katin Reinhardt (12.5), Bryce Dejean-Jones (11.5), Justin Hawkins (10.5) and Mike Moser (10.5). In both the NAU and Jacksonville State games, five UNLV players tallied double figures in scoring. the last time out home win over jacksonville state (sat., nov. 17) Mike Moser finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, and Justin Hawkins came off the bench to score 16 points as the No. 18 Runnin' Rebels beat Jacksonville State, 77-58, on Nov. 17, at the Thomas & Mack Center... Anthony Bennett scored 12 points and had nine rebounds with three blocks for UNLV (2-0)... Anthony Marshall and Katin Reinhardt added 11 apiece as five Runnin' Rebels scored in double figures for the second straight game... Hawkins was 5-for-9 from the field and made two 3-pointers in his 27 minutes of action... Bryce Dejean-Jones, making his first start, contributed eight points in 25 minutes... The first former player to become head coach of the program, Rice played for two seasons ( ) at UNLV as a guard on two of legendary coach Jerry Tarkanian's Final Four teams. His 11 seasons as a UNLV assistant coach is second-most in school history to Tim Grgurich (12). Rice had 18 years of experience as an assistant coach at the Division-I level before being hired to lead the Runnin' Rebels, most recently serving as associate head coach at BYU. He is in his second season as head coach of the Runnin' Rebels and has a career record of 28-9 (.757). The Runnin' Rebels went 26-9 in his first year at the helm of the program and the 26 wins during the campaign were the most victories in a season by a first-year head coach in UNLV men's basketball history. He guided the squad to the 2012 NCAA Tournament, one of only four first-year coaches in the country to do so. He also led the team to wins over three top-25 teams, including a victory over then-no. 1 North Carolina, which was the program's first win over the nation's top-ranked team in 22 years and the first time a Mountain West school has ever defeated the No. 1 team in both polls. The Runnin' Rebels were ranked for 13 straight weeks (14 overall), climbing as high as No. 11 in the country last season. UNLV was 17-1 at the Thomas & Mack Center, which included a perfect 16-0 mark during the regular season, its first undefeated home regular season in 20 years. The team was second in the nation in assists per game (17.6) and also second in the country in percentage of field goals assisted (65.4 percent). Three Runnin' Rebel players earned recognition as junior forward Mike Moser was selected to the five-member preseason all-conference team, sophomore guard Bryce Dejean-Jones was named Preseason Co-Newcomer of the Year, and forward Anthony Bennett was given the nod for Preseason Freshman of the Year. A panel comprised of conference media selected defending MW co-regular-season champion San Diego State as the preseason favorite to win the league this season. The Aztecs received 10 of 18 first-place votes and 153 points to just edge UNLV, which received the eight remaining first-place votes and 151 points. New Mexico is picked to finish third (122 points), followed by Colorado State (106) in fourth, MW newcomer Nevada, Reno (89) in fifth, Wyoming (70) in sixth, MW newcomer Fresno State (49) in seventh, Boise State (43) in eighth and Air Force (27) in ninth to round out the poll. FIRST SEVEN GAMES AT the THOMAS & MACK CENTER Including the exhibition game, the Runnin' Rebels are playing their first seven games of the season at the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV opened the regular season on Monday, Nov. 12, against Northern Arizona and will conclude the homestand on Saturday, Dec. 1, against Hawaii. The Runnin' Rebels' first road game will be on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Portland. ALL RUNNIN' REBEL ROAD GAMES WILL BE TELEVISED A minimum of 27 UNLV men's basketball games will be televised during the season, including all road games, plus each and every Mountain West contest. UNLV is scheduled to appear on CBS Sports Network, Time Warner Cable SportsNet, ESPNU, ESPN2 and NBC Sports Network this season. the blum room The press room at the Thomas & Mack Center was renamed the Bob Blum Media Center in a dedication ceremony on Nov. 17, just prior to the game vs. Jacksonville State. Blum passed away in July 2012 at the age of 91. Affectionately known as the Dean of West Coast Broadcasters, he was one of the most beloved figures in Southern Nevada. He spent 27 seasons as the radio voice of the UNLV women's basketball team and he broadcast over 1,000 UNLV sporting events during his career, including men's basketball, football, baseball and softball. anthony marshall breaks into runnin' rebel record book With 142 career steals, senior guard Anthony Marshall is currently No. 10 on the all-time UNLV list. Larry Johnson ( ) was previously No. 10 with 139. Mark Wade ( ) is No. 9 with 150. Also, with 940 career points, Marshall is on track to become the 38th Runnin' Rebel in history to score at least 1,000 points during his UNLV career.

Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 list when it was announced on Nov. 8. Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball media members, the list was comprised of 50 student-athletes who, based on last year's individual performance and team records, were the early front-runners for college basketball's most prestigious honor. Transfers, freshmen and medical redshirts were not eligible for the preseason list. The Mountain West had a total of two players on the list (San Diego State's Jamaal Franklin was the other). Moser was named to last year's Midseason Top 25 list. Larry Johnson is UNLV s only winner of the Wooden Award (1991). Moser was also on the Naismith 50-Player Early Season Watch List along with Franklin, which was announced Nov. 13. oh, canada! Teams are allowed to take a foreign tour once every four years and when doing so may practice for 10 days leading up to the trip. They will both enroll at UNLV next fall, Kendrick as a junior and Wood as a freshman. Kendrick, a former McDonald's High School All-American, is a 6-foot-7-inch, 205-pound sophomore guard at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa. Originally from College Park, Ga., as of Nov. 14, he was averaging 14.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists in 24.2 minutes per game for Indian Hills. The Warriors were 4-0 at that point in the season and were averaging ppg. In addition to playing in the McDonald's High School All-American game in 2010, he also played in the Jordan Brand Classic scoring 13 points. Named to the Parade Magazine All-America third team, the Wheeler High School (Marietta, Ga.) graduate was also an ESPN/RISE All-America second team pick. Kendrick was ranked as the No. 3 player at his position in the class of 2010 by Rivals (15th overall) and Scout, and 44th overall by ESPN. He signed with Memphis out of high school and then transferred to Mississippi. Wood is a 6-foot-11-inch, 210-pound senior forward/guard at Findlay College Prep in Henderson, Nev. Originally from Palmdale, Calif., he is ranked as the No. 36 overall player in the class of 2013 by Rivals and No. 8 at his position. Scout lists him at No. 13 at his position, while ESPN has him No. 63 overall. As of Nov. 14, he was averaging 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game this season as Findlay started the year 4-0. Last year Findlay finished 32-1 and won its third National High School Invitational title in four years. Wood averaged 8.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots per game off the bench as a junior for the Pilots. He was a teammate of current Runnin' Rebel Anthony Bennett last year at Findlay. Kendrick and Wood join Dantley Walker to make up UNLV's 2013 recruiting class. Walker will join the Runnin' Rebels as a freshman next year after finishing a two-year LDS mission.
