The Rock seeks to return to the winning side of the ledger and stay in the hunt for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference- Western Division championship and an NCAA Division II playoff berth when it takes on its archrivals, the Indians of Indiana U. of Pa. The Rock saw its three-game win streak end last Saturday with a loss at division rival California U. of Pa. Indiana, meanwhile, snapped a two-game win streak with a 17-0 shutout of previously unbeaten Shippensburg. When the smoke cleared last Saturday night, Indiana stood alone atop the PSAC-West standings with a 1-0 division mark. The Rock, California, Clarion, Edinboro and Shippensburg are all tied for second place at 1-1 while Lock Haven is 0-1 in the PSAC-West. SPECIAL CEREMONY: Prior to today s game, The Rock will retire football jersey #82, which was worn by the late Jim McElhaney. Mac was an All-America wide receiver for The Rock in 1963 and served 14 seasons ( ) as SRU s wide receivers coach. He died suddenly in July LAST MEETING: Kevin Weidl was 15-of-22 passing for 264 yards and two TDs to lead Indiana to a win in Indiana s George P. Miller Stadium on Nov. 6, Chris Morgan rushed for 117 yards for the Indians, while Joe Slappy caught four passes for 66 yards and two TDs. Brandon Markus rushed for 101 yards and one TD to lead The Rock effort. Indiana outgained The Rock by a margin in total offense. THE ROCK-INDIANA SERIES: The Indians have won five straight against SRU and lead the series by a margin. The last Rock win over Indiana came in 1999, when SRU humbled the hosts by a margin in Indiana s homecoming game. That victory was The Rock s third straight over the Indians. 2 Rock Football Game Notes: Week 7 vs. Indiana, Pa. Page 2 THE COACHES: Dr. George Mihalik has compiled a career record of record in 17 seasons as The Rock s head coach. He needs only 13 wins to become the winningest coach in SRU history. Mihalik began the season ranked 16th among active NCAA Division II head coaches in career wins and 21st in winning percentage. Mihalik is 3-14 against Indiana. Frank Cignetti has a career record in 22 seasons as a collegiate head coach and a record in 19 seasons at Indiana. He ranks fourth among active Division II head coaches in total wins and 10th in winning percentage. Cignetti is 16-3 against The Rock. KNIESS NUMBERS: The Rock offensive attack is paced by redshirt junior running back Josh Kniess, who has had the four best rushing efforts of his collegiate career this fall. Kniess has rushed for 100 or more yards seven times in his three-year collegiate career. He finished one yard shy of an eighth 100-yard game last week. Kniess 100-yard rushing games include: 176 yards vs. Bloomsburg, yards at Shepherd, yards at Lock Haven, yards at Youngstown State, yards at California, yards vs. Edinboro, yards at Lock Haven, 2002 Kniess leads the PSAC in punt returns with a 15.5 yards per return average. He is second in all-purpose yards (172.5 per game), third in scoring (11.0 points per game) and fourth in rushing (118.5 ypg). He has scored a career-best 11 TDs this fall (9 rushing, 1 pass receiving, 1 punt return) and rushed for a career-best 736 yards this fall. He needs 264 yards to become the 20th player in Rock football history to rush for 1,000 or more yards in a single season and 345 yards to break into the top 10 in career rushing. Kniess is currently ninth on SRU s career touchdowns list with 24 and 13th on the career scoring list with 144 points. He needs three TDs to move into a tie for eighth place (Scott Opalsky, ) and four TDs to move into a tie for seventh place (Greg Hopkins, ) on the career TDs list and 18 points to move into a tie for 12th place on the career scoring list (Opalsky, ). He has made nine catches for 156 yards and one TD since his return and leads the team with 19 catches for 251 yards this season. Richardson caught a career-high seven passes for 67 yards at Youngstown State before being injured.

Page 4 WET AND WONDERFUL: Redshirted sophomore wide receiver Luke Wetzel caught his second collegiate TD pass Sept. 18 vs. Fairmont State, a career-best 67-yarder. His first collegiate TD catch came at Fairmont State, a 65-yarder last year. Wetzel had a career-best game in the season opener against Bloomsburg when he caught four passes for 94 yards and one touchdown. FISHER AND FULLERTON HAVE FINEST HOURS: Senior H-back Justin Fisher, who assumed a starting role in Richardson s absence vs. Shepherd and Fairmont State, had a team-high 45 yards on three receptions in a backup role at Lock Haven. That was Fisher s career-best effort. Senior tight end Steve Fullerton set career-best marks last week at California when he caught three passes for 34 yards. CROOK S COOKIN : Redshirt freshman QB Nate Crookshank has had his best two passing efforts of the season in the past two weeks. He completed 14 of 19 attempts for 160 yards at Lock Haven and one TD and completed 12 of 34 passes for 225 yards and three TDs last Saturday at California. INJURY REPORT: Sophomore LB Seth Randall is expected to return to action this week after undergoing surgery on his meniscus. He sat out the last three games... Senior LB Justin Poorbaugh is not expected to return to action this fall after he re-injured a surgically repaired ACL at Lock Haven... Redshirt freshman LB Bill Lamb sustained a concussion last week and is questionable for this week s game. INDIVIDUAL HONORS: Kniess all-around effort vs. Bloomsburg in Week 1 earned him Don Hansen Football Gazette all-purpose Player of the Week honors... Senior NG Brian Godfrey was named to preseason All-America honors by both The Football Gazette (first team) and D2football.com (2nd team). STREAK CONTINUES: The Rock s Sept. 18 victory over Fairmont State extended SRU s win streak against WVIAC teams to 15 games. The last WVIAC team to beat SRU was West Virginia Wesleyan, which recorded a victory in Week 2 of the 1995 season in Buckhannon, W. Va. Since 1988, when Dr. George Mihalik assumed The Rock s head coaching reins, SRU owns a 20-2 mark against WVIAC foes. The Rock is all-time against West Virginia rivals. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: The 2004 season marks the 31st season that The Rock has played its home games at Thompson Stadium. Since rolling to a 41-3 win over Waynesburg in the first-ever game at the stadium on Oct. 19, 1974, The Rock has compiled a record in home games. SRU is at home under Coach Mihalik, in home games since 1990 and 32-9 in home games the last eight seasons. FAMILIAR TURF: Tonight s game is the fifth of seven The Rock will play on artificial turf this fall.
